With the North American tour in her rear view mirror, Lara returned home and took the time for ‘repose’, as indicated in this message and photo from the Lara Fabian Turkey site:
www.facebook.com/Larafabianturkiye/photos/a.682431461833636.1073741829.682422835167832/820064208070360/?type=1&theater
Their message continues that this is ‘before her meeting with Turkish spectators’ – i.e., media, presumably in preparation for the April 28th release of Odacity’s Lara Fabian ‘Selection’ album.
However, prior to that is Lara’s brief tour of countries ‘to the north’ (Sweden, Estonia, and two concerts in Finland), the week of April 20th. She left the following message on her FB site: Can't wait to see you soon dear Scandinavia... / Hâte de vous voir bientôt chère Scandinavie... as well as the following video:
www.facebook.com/video.php?v=883371561704342&set=vb.201065806601591&type=2&theater
[NB: actually, while Lara thinks she’s going to Scandinavia for her tour, only Sweden is a Scandinavian country; Estonia and Finland are not! Hopefully she will learn that before speaking to the audience…].
Presumably it will be the same show in Stockholm, and if so, Lara could regale the audience with her description of how she thought to write ‘I Guess I Loved You’, which, during her last tour, she mentioned she had written there. Pictures of tickets for these concert are showing up on-line, e.g., for Stockholm, www.facebook.com/larafabian.artist/photos/a.648032405340725.1073741833.629353903875242/652548361555796/?type=1&theater;
and Helsinki, www.facebook.com/246805652001644/photos/a.539506142731592.143232.246805652001644/1056789904336544/?type=1&theater
Before we completely turn the page on the North American tour, ‘Lib Lim’ very kindly made available audio recordings of the complete concert in Toronto. One can download it, in slightly modified form, from:
Part 1: app.box.com/s/xiraf59soodh4rv1yiwrqjndd76hcmbr
Part 2: app.box.com/s/hj5890ar1av12pex8p5ehsbd44jdhpgb
While there’s a little distortion at times from the base, it reminds us how well Lara sang on this past tour. ‘Caruso’ and ‘Adagio’ received well-deserved praise, but as one can hear on these recordings, she also did an excellent job on ‘Yelliel My Angel’ (not an easy song to sing), as well as (per usual) ‘Je suis malade’, among others.
Meanwhile, closer to home (but only in a sense), we’ve now gotten to hear a longer extract from the upcoming release of the Tom York Lounge (re)Mix of ‘Make Me Yours Tonight’. It’s available at:
soundcloud.com/matt-m-e-brussels
To these ears it sounds fresh - not only the energy and beat, but also the subtle off-key singing - and is perhaps (even) more ‘oriental’. It may do very well, again depending on where it is released. This does sound like Lara for the 21st century…
The upcoming album “Les Stars font leur cinema”, with Lara’s cover of ‘Unchained Melody’, is getting some play in the French press. ‘Voici’ announced it in their ‘new albums’ section (http://www.voici.fr/musique/noel-gallagher-prodigy-les-stars-font-leur-cinema-les-albums-de-la-semaine-557828). Here’s their review (in translation):
-------------------------------------------------
The Stars make their movies, Warner Music
Flashdance, Philadelphia, Pretty Woman, Dirty Dancing ... To each film, its hit. All are reprised here by old backpackers of compilations: Tal, Irma, M Pokora, Corneille, Vitaa, Lara Fabian, Vincent Niclo, etc ... The result is, as expected, rather uneven. Our favorite in the lot? The surprise reprise of Amandine Bourgeois of ‘We Do not Need Another Hero’ (Tina Turner) from Mad Max.
---------------------------------------------------
After last week’s brouhaha concerning Rick Allison, another one of Lara’s paramours/collaborators made news this past week, this time in a cooperative sense. Jean-Félix Lalanne in an interview concerning his upcoming tour of France, indicated that he and Lara had spoken recently and they want to work together again (https://fr.news.yahoo.com/video/jean-f%C3%A9lix-lalanne-avec-lara-132157683.html). Lara appeared on stage with him not too long ago, in the ’30 Years of Top 50’ program, when she performed ‘Une femme avec une femme’ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjUPhkUiBvM) . She said at the time of their ‘break-up’ that it had not ended with any acrimony or betrayal, and so she was open to their working together. This was not necessarily believed at the time, but, if he’s correct, it may be so. Whether that’s a good thing or not depends on one’s point of view. He has been criticized for, if not initiating, at least accommodating Lara’s turn towards reduced use of her vocal power with the album ‘Neuf’. His response was that she was going in that direction anyway. Given that she has now turned back to being a ‘singer of voice’, it would be interesting to see what direction any new collaboration would take…It’s been a long time since Lara included any of the songs from ‘Neuf’ in her regular set list.
Speaking of collaborations: The ‘Mlle. Zhivago’ website posted an article in which Julien Schultheis, a drummer and keyboardist who has worked with various performers (e.g., Zazie, Christophe Willem) mentioned that he is “preparing to work on the next album of Lara Fabian”. (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10204154937495884&set=gm.968728426504603&type=1&theater). There have been a number of artists who have been reported working/having worked on Lara’s next French album, and who knows what is really true, but what is of interest in this report is the use of the word ‘preparing’. Lara has claimed several times that the album is essentially complete, that she was just delaying its release to the fall, and that a single from the album would be released this spring (May was the month often mentioned). Lara’s album release dates and the final selection of songs for them have historically been ‘fluid’; it would seem that may be true in this case as well. And that’s not to mention the next English language album, which at one point she said would be released in tandem. So while we are being treated to several ‘best of’ compilation, or ‘cover’ recordings containing a few new songs/mixes from Lara, albums of completely new material would seem to remain at arm’s length.
Fans have also wondered about the second ‘Mlle. Zhivago’ album with Krutoi, of which there has been no word in many months…Instead, in the same (past) vein, Rob Mancuso just released a video of the Mademoiselle Zhivago tour of Eastern Europe and Russia in November of 2010 (another one of his ‘Minibob on tour’ videos). It can be seen at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=unZtVa2F9E8
He notes it was when he first met Giora Linenberg, who becomes his friend. A little slice of life, and the video quality is great, but if one is hoping for revelations, these videos are not the place to look .
And if ‘past material’ is the name of the game, both in releases and recent concerts, it is also being made readily available by Lara herself. Lara’s official youtube video channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/larafabianoff/videos) has now added all the songs from ‘Pure’, ‘Le Secret’, ‘A Wonderful Life’, and the Mademoiselle Zhivago (European release) albums. An interesting development, perhaps bowing to the inevitable given streaming music sites that allow one to hear them, often free of charge. One wonders whether ‘youtube’ (i.e., Google) reimburses artists for songs accessed on their official channels…
Interesting photo(s) of the week: from Lara’s last two concerts, first in Beverly Hills (from Lara Fabian Brazil):

By next week Lara will have given her concert in Stockholm. We assume it will be similar to those in North America, and hopefully it will go as well.
