As expected, Lara’s first two concerts of her North American tour took place this past week, in Atlantic City on Saturday night, and Montreal last night. The setlist from Atlantic City was: "Je t'aime”, "J'y crois encore", "Il est lune", "Caruso", "Angel", "I Guess I Loved You", "Calling You", "I will love again", "Make me Yours Tonight", "Yeliel", "Pas sans toi", "Mademoiselle Hyde", "Je suis malade" and "Lyubov Pohozhaya Na Son" (Love Like A Dream).
Lara looked relaxed and quite attractive. Several sites have accumulated a few pictures, e.g., Lara Fabian Brazil, at:

We have numerous videos from Atlantic City, some of them of very good quality, some incomplete. The best of each song are listed below [the videos that can be downloaded from the ‘box’ site come originally from ‘Jeffrey Watson’ and I’ve done something to make them a bit more presentable (e.g., rotating them, etc.)]:

As can be appreciated from the videos, Lara presented a spectacular concert [hence, Paula, I can't agree with you ]. As was the case in Israel, the version of Caruso deserves special notice – perhaps her experience in Italy has really sensitized her to the song. Although there don’t seem to be any press reviews, or at least none that I’ve seen, the few fan comments that one can read on the web called it ‘a great concert’. It is nice that, IMHO, people in the States got to hear her at the height of her current vocal prowess.
But what ‘people’ were they? Lara had indicated that she had a number of songs at her disposal, and that she would vary the setlist somewhat dependent on the venue. In Atlantic City, as one can see from the setlist provided above, some of the English language songs reappeared (in comparison with the setlist from Israel); as a bow to the country she was in, the English language songs outnumbered those in French, 7 to 5. Also reappearing was the Russian song ‘Love Like a Dream’, and from the reaction she got when she announced it, she was certainly correct in assuming there was a large Russian contingent. Unlike in New York, she even got them to sing along somewhat on the song. Lara indicated during the concert that it had always been her dream to sing in five languages in the States, and now she was finally accomplishing it (not to quibble, but she didn’t, as ‘Alfonsina y el mar’, the Spanish song, was not presented). All in all, a wonderful beginning for her North American tour.
[Paula noted in her recent comment that Lara kept touching her left ear in the videos. I didn't really notice that - perhaps I'm so used to it now that I just ignore it - but as reported previously, that was the case in Israel as well...It would appear that she still has to compensate, in whatever way, for the Acoustic Shock Syndrome...].
Concerning the show in Montreal: the concert was preceded by a small article in ‘Montreal 24H’ that basically siad she was presenting some musical masterpieces that had marked her history (https://www.facebook.com/246805652001644/photos/a.247913198557556.83420.246805652001644/1045668135448721/?type=1&theater)
And there was a small notice in the Montreal Gazette, saying “Belgian- born singer Lara Fabian will be performing at Montreal’s Place des Arts on Monday”.
Lara was also interviewed (for 22 minutes) on ICI radio in Canada (http://ici.radio-canada.ca/emissions/pm/2014-2015/). They briefly went through Lara’s history, discussed her name, her recent ear accident and the limitations it imposes on her; also her singing technique (and a take-off of it), her international singing career (including Russia and singing in Russian with the ‘Mademoiselle Zhivago’ album) and the reason for her international capabilities (growing up with the different languages in her family). They ended with ‘Duex ils deux elles’ and her feelings about ‘marriage for all’.
Actually the interviewer approached Lara as if she had no connection at all, really, with Montreal, was just another wonderful francophone singer passing through, and almost as if the audience was being introduced to her for the first time. After being away for some 15 years, perhaps that is to be expected. Neither of the two newspaper blurbs mentioned that Lara is a Canadian citizen. Even after Lara left Canada circa 2000, it used to be that when she went back it was accompanied by a media blitz; perhaps this illustrates the truth of the old saying ‘You can’t go home again”, even if it’s really only your second or third home…
In related news, Amélie L’ posted an amazingly cute video from Montreal of her little girl correcting her ‘step-grandfather’ on the pronouncing of Lara’s name (not ‘Laura’) (thanks to the Larafabianweb site), at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4UEWBW_5mk
This video, or at least its posting, was presumably triggered by Lara’s Montreal appearance, as Amelie indicated she was planning to attend the concert (not sure about the little girl, though…) .
Concerning the concert itself – this Update is being produced less than 12 hours afterwards, so a lot of the videos and news that might show up is not yet available, but here, too, it would seem that the audience got their money’s worth. That can be ascertained from some of the videos already available – for example, ‘Je suis malade’, at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Enc0dp05lU
One can observe in that video [and in a video fragment of the same song taken from a different angle, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQcPzzTwWUY)] that there was pretty much a full house, and they responded with a standing ovation at the end of this song. We can also note that it was not the same set list as in Atlantic City, but, ironically, the one song we know that was different was in English – Adagio, fragment available at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=pb-7Zx4Ny-o
On the Lara Fabian Montreal site, there was this (translated) comment: “Last night we found a Lara in form and in voice. Congratulations again”.
And today Lara put a small video of the closing of the concert on her website with the (translated) comment, “Thanks from all my heart, Montreal…I miss you already…See you soon!
It can be viewed on her FB site, or downloaded at app.box.com/s/dy9oboc49j5vraq6bu5dyar5wdbt2vx2
[The predominant reply to this from fans was that France and Belgium miss her as well!]
In somewhat related news, on sale at the concert in Atlantic City was, surprisingly, another version of the ‘Essential’ Lara Fabian album. As can be seen from these pictures:
www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10205355657642353&set=pcb.955703377807108&type=1&theater
www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10205355657922360&set=pcb.955703377807108&type=1&theater
it contains a slightly different compilation than that sold in Italy, with the tracklist:
Voce; Review My Kisses;I Guess I Loved You; Je t’aime; Tango; Si tu m’aimes; Je suis malade; Humana; Immortelle; La vie est la – remix; I Am A-Wa; Tu es mon autre; Sto Male; Adagio (English) – Live; Make Me Yours Tonight; Mademoiselle Hyde; No Big Deal
Hence a few more English language songs – i.e., Review My Kisses and No Big Deal from ‘A Wonderful Life’. Warner obviously then has the legal ability to access some of Lara’s other albums – which makes one wonder why their release in Italy didn’t contain more of Lara’s Italian language songs? It will be interesting to find out if at the show in Montreal, there was yet another ‘Essential’ compilation – this one with more French songs! As noted previously, one can now see further reasons why albums and CDs are becoming passé, when streaming music from sites such as ‘Spotify’ allow a much wider mixing and matching of songs from all albums without these byzantine restrictions.
In other news, or lack thereof, we’ve heard no more from 'Odacity' concerning either the contents of the second CD in their upcoming release, or when that release is to be (there’s only one week left in March). Nor have we heard from the Lara Fabian Turkey FB site if/how they will make the release available to a wider audience outside of Turkey. The closest relevant occurrence this week was Lara’s performance of ‘Make Me Yours Tonight’ at Atlantic City, which, from the video above, seemed to be one of her best performances of it.
Interesting picture(s) of the week – from Lara’s FB page, with the quote “Small souvenir from the rehearsals in Montreal”:

and from the concert itself (with the accompanying quote, ”Lara Fabian was amazing, as usual”):

In the next week, Lara will be in Toronto on the 26th, Florida on the 28th, and Beverly Hills on the 31st, with one last North American show in Vancouver on April 2nd. From what we’ve seen, they are in for amazing concerts. Hopefully they will provide amazing videos .
