Lara’s concert in Tel Aviv, Israel dominated her news this past week. She preceded the concert itself by appearing on several radio shows speaking in French, as the station Radiofutee (http://www.radiofutee.com/) turns out to be a French speaking station there. She also gave an interview with ‘TipTopTelAviv’. As usual, Lara expressed her appreciation for her fans in the country, and her conviction that music is independent of politics, and is capable of uniting everyone.
As for the concert itself, it was a typical ‘Best of’ (or unplugged) version, with her standard musicians (Rony Iwryn on percussion, Rami Osservaser on guitar, Gilad Ephrat on bass, and Giora Linenberg on piano and musical direction). The décor had the usual four empty picture frames for the musicians, and for Lara to occasionally sit in. The setlist was without the added touch of a Hebrew song, thus different from most of her concerts there. It was thus: Je t’aime; J'y crois encore; Il est lune; Caruso; Angel; I Guess I Loved You; I will love again; Alfonsina Y El Mar; Le secret; La difference; Make me yours tonight; Pas sans toi; Mademoiselle Hyde; Je suis malade; Adagio.
Videos exist for about half of these songs, of varying quality and completeness. Here’s a linkage to the best of each available:

In addition, the Larafabianweb.com FB site has some nine small videos of 30-40 seconds each, as well as the closing bows (courtesy Alina Kolodyazhnyy), and some ‘Instagram’ short videos (of ~15 seconds) can also be found. Then there’s also the nicely personal view of Lara singing a portion of ‘Adagio’ after the show in Tel Aviv, at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XgTE2t1_kc
‘Anna Kogan’ on the ‘Lara Fabian Connecting People’ site provided audios of almost the full concert (without ‘I Guess I Loved You’). I’ve put them together in a zip file that can be downloaded from:
app.box.com/s/ve70u8lk8j440d5r70k08b580sdfkww9
While the audio quality isn’t the greatest, one can hear that Lara was in excellent voice. Ironically, there was a most wonderful performance of ‘Caruso’, which would have been highly appropriate to sing in Italy – and probably would have gotten a great reception (she could have chosen that as her ‘cover’, although 'Sto Male' was very well received). Adagio was also exceedingly well done, as in times of old (which Lara now seems to have gotten back to).
Various pictures of the event can be found on the web, e.g., from ‘operation-fan-club-Lara Fabian’:

The fan response, what there was of it on the web, was highly positive, seemingly mirroring what we could hear for ourselves. The hall was almost full, an accomplishment since it seats 5000-6000 for concerts. There seemed to be no Israeli press coverage of the event, or at least none I could find on the web.
All in all, it successfully fulfilled Lara’s apparent desire to be there with her standard show; it presages that this is the show that will be given in North America as well. And Lara continues to sing as if she were at least 10 years younger. Interestingly, Lara made no mention of it at all on her FB site…
In other news, ‘Odacity’ had the following announcement concerning their upcoming ‘best of’ release:
Odacity
We are reviewing with LARA FABIAN the last changes to the tracklist of the album to be released by Odacity shortly (within the month of March). More information will follow within the next days. We thank all the fans of Lara for their patience and support! Odacity (then show the Video: "Adagio" , live at the "Toutes Les Femmes En Moi - TLFM Tour" at www.facebook.com/video.php?v=932334546790909&fref=nf).
They furthermore announced that their album will no longer be called ‘Best of’, since it is impossible to include all of the best songs on one album. It is now (more appropriately) called ‘SELECTION’. As they note, it will consist of 2 CDS - the first disc containing the “best hits”, the second disc remixes of some of the songs.
Meanwhile, the Warner Italy album release, ‘Essential’, continues to make its way in the world; pictures of the front and back can be seen at:

It is not (yet) listed in the Italian album charts (http://www.fimi.it/classifiche/#{"s":1,"p":0}); perhaps it’s too early…
For those of you who can’t obtain it directly, the ‘Lara Fabian Serbia’ fanclub has uploaded the album to youtube; it can be found at:

As expected the second version of ‘Voce’ presented is the more rhythmic one that was used for the live performance.
Alternatively, last Tuesday, the Italian radio broadcast “Radio Passo Di Un Sogno” [Step of a Dream] devoted a two hour segment to Lara, in a ‘concert’ format (with canned applause). They included all of the songs found in the ‘Essential’ album, but with some changes: instead of ‘Si tu m’aimes’ they used the English version ‘To Love Again’; they included the Italian version of Adagio (which Lara obviously should have done); and, quite creatively, they used the ‘World Music Awards’ live version of ‘Je t’aime’ (which was picked as the ‘best’ video of that song in my selections last year). In addition, to fill out the two hours they added some additional songs, the majority in English. The announcer bookended each of the songs with unstinting praise of Lara’s voice and her singing. Here is the list of songs broadcast, along with the times at (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYokGtJZhy8; www.spreaker.com/user/senzanuvole/lara-fabian-essential):
7:41-11:45 Voce (live version)
13:13-16:23 Je me souviens
17:19-21:13 La via est la
22:16-27:05 I Am A-Wa
28:16-31:44 Make Me Yours Tonight
32:17-36:39 Je suis malade
37:34 – 41:15 Tu t’en vas
41:32 – 45:56 Je t’aime (WMA version)
46:23 – 49:53 I Guess I Loved You
50:22 – 54:20 Tango
54:44 – 58:25 To Love Again
59:26 – 63:39 Tout
64:18- 68:06 Tu es mon autre
69:58 – 74:18 Adagio (Italian)
74:37 – 79:27 Immortelle
80:21 – 85:44 Humana
86:41 – 90:56 Mama
91:17 – 95:16 Toccami
95:28 – 99:22 Mamy Blue
99:53 – 103:30 I Will Love Again
103:50 – 107:41 Mademoiselle Hyde
107:59 – 112:17 Sto Male (live version)
113:43- 117:43 Voce (alt version)
[The first seven minutes on the youtube link is a carryover from another artist (Ricky Martin)].
Interesting choices. Another obvious inclusion was Lara’s biggest hit, in terms of total sales, ‘I Will Love Again’. But I especially liked that they had the ingenuity to include ‘Mama’, one of Lara’s greatest songs – and dedicated to her mother – that for some inexplicable reason she completely overlooks.
While in Israel, Lara commented on the food available in an ‘Instagram’ photo
with the accompanying text :
“I was hungry ahahahah vive the kemias and the grills in Tel Aviv!

Coming up in a few weeks is the beginning of Lara’s North American sojourn. Given that the setlist is pretty well assured, the only mystery remaining is how many seats are filled in the various venues – hopefully enough to encourage her to come back regularly (and release her next English album). And sometime this month we will find what songs were included in Odacity’s attempt at an ‘essential Lara Fabian selection’.
