Lara begins her appearance at the Sanremo festival in Italy later today. Most of this Update is related to the lead-in to the event.
The record company ‘Odacity’ released the following statement:
“As we receive many questions regarding Lara's participation to the Sanremo Festival: Lara will be performing "Voce" twice, (first time Tuesday , then again on Friday). And if she is selected among the finalists (16 entries with the highest votes out of 20 participants) she will perform "Voce" again for a third time, on Saturday. In addition to this, she will also perform "Sto Male" ("Je suis malade") on Thursday. (This is for the parallel competition among "cover" songs). You can watch the festival on Rai UNO”.
In partiular (all times local):
February 10 2015 - 20:48 - Lara Fabian "Voce"
February 12 2015 - 20:48 - Lara Fabian "Sto Male"
February 13 2015 - 20:48 - Lara Fabian "Voce"
The streaming video should be available at: www.stream2video.tv/countries/italy/rai1
[The ‘Lara Fabian connecting people’ site noted another link: www.interntv.ru/?name=View&idtv=1716 ]
The judging is partly by local ‘experts’ and partly via audience voting – and as one can vote on-line, and the voters do not appear limited to Italy, Lara’s fans world-wide have a way of influencing whether she does perform the song on Saturday!
It appears that voting can be done at:
www.rtl.it/festival-di-sanremo/2015/classifica/
beginning at 2100 local time, Tuesday.
As noted on the site, by voting, you can apparently also win a trip to Zanzibar!
Lara has already won the prize for ‘International artist’ – since she’s the only one!

The MZ FB site noted that Lara will be the sixth performer of the evening:

A video of Lara with the other participants is available at:
www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10204959272335729
Accompanying Lara, Fio Zanotti will be at the head of the large Sanremo orchestra, while Vincent Gullo (http://seraing.blogs.sudinfo.be/archive/2015/02/05/vincent-gullo-pianiste-liegeois-au-festival-de-sanremo-138740.html ) will be on the piano.
Lara did numerous publicity events and interviews, several of which she placed on her official FB page [the first time I can remember Lara ever publicizing something on that page in Italian, with no attempt to provide a French translation]. She placed on her FB site a video of herself discussing ‘Voce’, from (http://www.rai.tv/dl/RaiTV/programmi/media/ContentItem-af172210-c734-4383-b180-a82f21cdfdcb-sanremo15.html#p=0). In it Lara says (in approximate translation):
"Voce" is an element of transmission, it's a song I call a ‘sweeps clouds away’, a 'door-light’ ... a song that you can take with you as a hymn and in my opinion has no pretension except to do good and to me too when I sing. I see a vibrant energy, something very light, "Voce" is all that, is a hymn that, if you want, can help you feel better ...
You know, I see it all as a party, this thing connects me to my family and to all the fantastic moments that I experienced watching the Festival when I was a kid."
Lara also placed on her website the link to an interview she gave, available at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.622966977744803.1073741829.201065806601591/850084498366382/
Here’s the translation:
------------------------------------------------
This is not the first time in Sanremo for the Belgian singer: in 2007 she was among the guests of honor of the festival, where she sang a duet with Gigi D'Alessio and interpreted her most famous hit in our country "Adagio". But the 2015 edition marks her debut among the ‘Champions’ in the race. "It's a great feeling because I've always wanted to sing in the language of my mother," says Lara in an impeccable Italian. "This Festival I want to dedicate to my own mother, I know that she will be proud to see me on that stage, remembering the times when we sit together in front of the television to watch Sanremo".
THE SONG. "Voce for me is an element of communication," said Lara. "This is the meaning of the text: Take this my voice and take it with you to dream of peace in these dark and complicated times. It is a hymn to positivity and light. And for me it's also a business card for me to become more acquainted with the Italian public”.
THE COVER "Singing 'I'm sick' (but in French) [i.e., ‘Je suis malade’] for twenty years, only later I found out that there is an Italian version sung by Ornella Vanoni. When I was asked to choose a cover I had no doubts," says Fabian. "The song is not only a cry of pain, even despair, one can always hear in the voice of Vanoni a note of hope. Even if the situation seems bleak you can hook up to something positive. A perfect song for me, because these are the foundations of my personality. "
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then, from ‘La vita in diretta’, a video of Lara offering greetings (in Italian) from San Remo:
www.facebook.com/video.php?v=611837802280072&fref=nf
Two nights ago Lara attended the ‘red carpet’ press conference organized by radio Italia. Some nice photos of her there (thanks to Elisa D’Ospinai and the Lara Fabian est ton autre site) can be seen at:
www.facebook.com/166959643357708/photos/a.168982793155393.43222.166959643357708/797316923655307/

and from the Lara Fabian Mexico site:
www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.798835363503859.1073741897.556364357750962&type=1
One can also find a Sanremo red carpet photo of Lara from the European press photo agency, at:
www.epa.eu/arts-culture-and-entertainment-photos/music-photos/red-carpet-of-the-sanremo-song-festival-2015-photos-51791024
Then Lara performed at the rehearsal, which was observed by the author of the song "Voce", Cristiano Cremonini. He first met with Lara and shared his emotions on his facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/cristiano.cremonini.1). "Lara recently sang ... I am biased, it is clear, but this woman is really extremely sociable and sensitive. It is felt as soon as she comes on stage - live it is certainly perceived more clearly - friends, I swear, tonight I saw and heard the voice of an angel!" And also, “One thing is undeniable, and goes beyond her uncommon vocal and interpretive qualities: Lara Fabian brought grace and sweetness in Sanremo, gifts very rare today”.
The Starpoint Corporation, Lara’s sponsor for the event, continues to have brief introductory videos and pictures of her, at: www.facebook.com/StarpointCorporation
There will also be a record release associated with the festival, as indicated in the following announcement:
www.italia-disques.com/en/cd-italian-songs-music/989-sanremo-2015-super-sanremo-2015-0888750620125.html
Sanremo Festival 2015 - super Sanremo 2015 (released on 12-02-2015) 2cd
shipment from Monday 16-02-2015
#14 on the first CD is Lara singing ‘Voce’, and #13 on the second is her singing Almeno tu nell'universo.
Cost 15 euros, with another 8 euros for delivery.
Picture of the album: www.facebook.com/LaraFabianfromMexico/photos/a.556367684417296.1073741826.556364357750962/798268513560544/
A nice picture of Lara with the Italian lyrics for ‘Voce’ (whose translation was provided in last week’s Update) is available at:
www.unduetre.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Lara-Fabian.jpg
Presumably we will get to hear the full song on this and the other albums planning to cover it (see below). As has been noted by the song's author, the rules for Sanremo are that no song can be longer than around three minutes and 40 seconds which means that “the final extreme emotion” of the song will not be heard at the contest (https://www.facebook.com/StarpointCorporation/photos/a.227561750712005.59033.201915099943337/596301823837994/). This may well work against Lara, who is ‘known’ for her highly emotional endings!
The second of Lara's songs on the CD is associated with Mia Martini; a video of her performing it is available at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb6Zp-bSHuE. The second CD has the title ‘Duo covers’ and lists Ms. Martini in parenthesis, but that may only mean it is a reference to ‘her song’. This is one of the covers Lara is doing in the Festival (e.g., see the article at anonimuzz.hubpages.com/hub/Lara-Fabian-in-2015-New-Concerts-New-Albums), although it has not been talked about often, and is not shown on the schedule at the top of this Update.
In other (although somewhat related) news, as you may have noted, ‘Odacity’ commented on the last News Update, reaffirming that their release of Lara’s ‘Best of’, for the Turkish market, was still on track to take place in March. A picture of the album cover can be seen at:
www.facebook.com/odacity/photos/a.579336748757359.1073741825.534028323288202/924802687544095/?type=1&fref=nf
The picture is quite nice – it reminds one of some of the photos from ‘Nue’ (for obvious reasons). Odacity also indicates that the ‘Best of” will have two discs, with the second consisting of remixes.
It has also become apparent that another release of what is perhaps the same album, with a slightly different cover, is being planned by Warner Music Italy (https://www.facebook.com/WARNERMUSICITALY/photos/a.368609356507267.91226.109155382452667/916018821766315/?type=1). The release is in this case is given the name ‘Essential Lara Fabian’:
www.facebook.com/LaraFabianfromMexico/photos/a.556367684417296.1073741826.556364357750962/798267543560641/
and it is scheduled for February 24th, even earlier than the ‘Odacity’ release. The tracklist for the ‘’Essential Lara Fabian’ album was unveiled at (http://sanremo.allmusicitalia.it/lara-fabian-dopo-il-festival-nei-negozi-di-dischi-la-raccolta-essential-lara-fabian-copertina-e-tracklist.html). Here are the songs:
1. Voce
2. Tu t’en vas
3. Tout
4. Je t’aime
5. Tango
6. Si tu m’aimes
7. Je suis malade
8. Humana
9. Immortelle
10. La vie est là (Remix)
11. I am A-WA
12. Tu es mon autre
13. Sto Male
14. Adagio (English) Live
15. Make Me Yours Tonight
16. Toccami
17. Voce (Cutugno Remix)
Of course it is impossible to include in one album all of Lara’s greatest titles, and ‘Essential’ is a vague enough term as to encompass all choices. However, it would certainly have taken an accurate crystal ball to predict the entirety of this tracklist . One wonders whether Lara was actively involved in the decisions, as it lacks several of the songs she is most enthusiastic about (e.g., Pas sans toi; J’y crois encore; Llora). Note that as this will include ‘Sto Male’, together with the two CD set from the Sanremo festival itself, they will contain all three of the songs Lara is scheduled to sing.
Given that the cover is the same as that of the Odacity ‘Best of’ release, except for the title, one strongly suspects they will contain the same material. It’s unclear whether the Italian release too will be country specific, but it’s already available on amazon.it (http://www.amazon.it/Essential-Lara-Fabian/dp/B00TEFWFZU/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1423572978&sr=1-1&keywords=Lara+Fabian). The number of discs listed is one; as noted above, Odacity’s release will have two discs. Is there a second, ‘remix’ disc that Warner Italy is not including, or is the amazon.it listing incomplete? Or are they unrelated (hard to believe)? Perhaps ‘Odacity’ can clear up the situation… Given that there are now two different record companies involved, if it were the same disc(s) it would make sense for it to become a general release, including digital, but we’ll have to wait and see. Just in case that is not true, the following information was provided by the Lara Fabian Türkiye site:
“For all Lara Fabian fans across the world, who wish to purchase the upcoming "Best of.." album to be released by Odacity in Turkey; we will be posting information within the next few days on how to purchase the CD through our page, and have it sent to you by post”.
As for other, completely unrelated news: with reference to last week’s event at the Krutoi gala, a news report on Russia 1 about the concert at the Barclays Center is available at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=33nlC0c3CMU&feature=youtu.be
Lara indicates how proud she is to be working with Krutoi, someone whom she loves, musically and humanly, at the boundaries of modern Russian music.
Interesting picture(s) of the week, both associated with San Remo:

All the photos of Lara this week have shown how genuinely happy she is to finally be performing in the spotlight in Italy. Assuming she doesn’t get too emotional about it, she is primed to put on an amazing performance. By next week it will be all over…let’s hope it is truly memorable for her - and us - in a good way.
