Three major stories this past week… We’ll start with a pleasant one…
Lara had her 45th birthday on January 9th. Hopefully it was happy – may Lara have many, many more healthy ones! Various media and fan sites from around the world offered up birthday greetings/cards/videos to her, among them:

Message to Lara and her family from LFCP
Dear Mr. Crokaert! We are writing to congratulate Lara Happy Birthday! On this day, we would like to thank you and your wife for your daughter! We wish you health, happiness and joy! We would be very grateful if you could send the following message to Lara: There are people who leave a mark on the lives of others and guide them to the very depths of the soul. There are people, shining like stars in the sky. There are people whose life - pure embodiment of wisdom, love and light. January 9 - Birthday of such a person. Who could say in 1970 that such a simple decision to call this girl the name of one of the most wonderful characters of Russian literature, would lead her to this country? And here, in this land, so far away from Sicily, Lara finds her audience, as in other parts of the world? Lara, thank you for what came to Russia in 2004. Thank you for having revealed to us the most magical secrets. It's unbelievable, but your voice - now Russian melancholy reflection. Be happy, be confident in yourself, in your beliefs, your values, which reflect the beauty of life and love. Let your family, your lover and your friends always be there. We hope for the same "to be near, like you". Remember, your smile and your love is stronger than all the injustices and gestures of hatred. Let this love be your strength! Thank you, Lara, for the freedom of thought, for this delightful, exciting, powerful voice, for your inspiring us with tenderness. In the difficult moments of life look at the sky: there you will see a large star surrounded by little ones. Know that it's you and we, your angels. We love you, Lara, and will always be "the wind in your wings." We love you. Happy Birthday !!!
---------------------------------------------
They also included a wonderful picture of Lara being kissed by her parents, which can be seen on their site, or at: app.box.com/s/y6uo0ozcxaskmwhnnicx.
Five years ago when Lara turned 40, she said she thought she was halfway through her career (she apparently felt she could continue ‘til she was about 60). Accepting that perspective, she’s now more than 60% through. As each year passes, her window for reaching as wide an audience as possible decreases, something her birthday might well reinforce. As we’ve seen, she’s pursuing her international career more aggressively than ever, and the birthday cards from around the world show it is being reciprocated.
In that regard, Lara’s spring appearance in Slovakia recently received publicity. Lara will be in concert for the second time in Slovakia, Bratislava, at the Aegon Arena on June 03, 2015. Tickets are on sale at:
www.ticketportal.sk/performance.aspx?idp=144300

Here’s the ‘very approximate’ translation from the Slovak :
-------------------------------------------------------
Lara Fabian comes to Slovakia
OTS, 7 January 2015 12:57
Lara Fabian, singer with one of most beautiful voices in the world, coming to Slovakia.
Lara Fabian, singer with one of the most beautiful voices in the world, is coming to Bratislava, Slovakia on 3 June 2015, in the open air for a single concert at Aegon Arena in Bratislava.
Lara Fabian was born in Belgium, however, survived childhood with her Italian mother in Sicily. Her father was a guitarist in a band with the popular singer Petula Clark. At the beginning Lara only did classical singing, trained for eight years by her parents, so her musical talent could be developed to the fullest. Lara Fabian started composing her first song and it was only a matter of time before you noticed her outstanding talent in the world. It took off after her professional and personal meeting with Rick Allison. It was love at first and then work. Impressions of Lara were first found in Quebec in Canada where she released her first album ‘Lara Fabian’.
Beautiful voice, which long resonates in the hearts of listeners.
Initially she was admired above all only in the francophone world. Lara Fabian never had management that catered to "Pop mainstream", always choosing from a variety of musical genre cultures what she wants her beautiful voice to present to audience.
This is why she has sold millions of copies worldwide. Lara during her long career has worked, for example, with Celine Dion, Sheryl Crowe, Robbie Williams, Alanis Morissette, but also with Steven Spielberg, for whom she sang the soundtrack for the film AI Artificial Intelligence.
Audiences around the world have come to admire her work, which is the combination of pop, rock, world music, jazz or classical music. Audiences at live concerts appreciate most of all when Lara Fabian drops the microphone and sings without it, showing she has no need for technical support.
The Aegon Arena (NTC) in Bratislava will be even more powerful because of the open roof arena. Thanks to her beautiful voice and view of the stars. We believe Bratislava concert of Lara Fabian will determine for all the outstanding musical experience 2015.
Audiences can look forward to their status as her greatest hits Je t’aime, Adagio, Tout, I will love again, or Je suis malade.
Date and place:
3 Jun 2015 Aegon Arena-NTC – Odbojarov street, Bratislava Slovakia
Tickets on sale already from 49 € Ticketportal or at www.Ticketportal.sk.
---------------------------------------------------
In other international events, the concert in Beverly Hills, California also has a poster:

And five months after its release, ‘Make Me Yours Tonight’ is still doing well on the Turkish charts, as noted by ‘Operation Fan Club Lara Fabian’:
www.facebook.com/OperationFanClubLaraFabian/photos/a.693407834099749.1073741858.673991206041412/709472032493329/
The second major story, of much darker shade, concerns Lara’s reaction to the events in Paris this past week. She put a message on her FB site in response to the shootings at ‘Charlie Hebdo’, the French satirical weekly newspaper; here’s the translation:
-------------------------------------------
Dear all,
I come to wish you a good new year
The heart at half-mast
May this year give us the strength to remain united beyond all
Give us the space to turn to the other without delay, in order to look him in the eyes and see a brother that we resemble, and a human with whom we make only one… everywhere on this planet...
I AM CHARLIE
Freedom of thought
Freedom of expression
Freedom
Against obscurantism
Let's make resonate our values.
As a sacred bond
Lara
----------------------------------------------
There’s also a picture (thanks to the Lara Fabian UK fan site),
www.facebook.com/LaraFabianUKFans/photos/a.1423269811253407.1073741832.1419686111611777/1547843928795994/
Lara has often said that she is not political, but at the same time is a big supporter of human rights, as indicated by her campaign in favor of ‘marriage for all’ in France. She’s sometimes been burned by it, especially because of that attitude, e.g., when the press pointed out that she was giving concerts in countries where dictators were running the concerts. She also ran afoul of some (e.g., in Lebanon) with her avowed support for Israel. But she generally stands her ground, and instead of issuing polemics in response, emphasizes that ‘loving one’s neighbor’ cures all ills. That’s the case here as well.
In a third major story, apparently the ‘Mademoiselle Zhivago’ movie with which we’re familiar (the eight videos) did show on Russia channel 1 (51 minutes long).
(notice for it was at www.facebook.com/353946178085395/photos/a.353954938084519.1073741828.353946178085395/603779466435397/ )
It actually surprised the director, Alan Badoev, himself [who was born on January 10 – he is 34]. He wrote on his Instagram site(
-------------------------------------------
Today, at Christmas Day, on Channel 1 Russia, will be shown the musical film "Mademoiselle Zhivago"
Unexpectedly ...
I wonder:
What changed the view of Lara Fabian?
What changed the view of the channel?
And how will feel the audience?
As it is now you will hear: children appeal to the president, the lullaby of a deceased mother, march of a pregnant woman who had just destroyed the city? ...
Four years ago, the person sacked and all nodded their heads- what cruelty...
And today? ... shown for Christmas ))
I would just like to know - the river flows and brings wonderful change.
And here's another ... And that same ready Ukrainian TV, is still considering this film, too!!!?
--------------------------------------
The ‘LFCP site’ then noted: meanwhile, the network has "Opinion from producer Mikhail Yasinskiy" which reports that the channel will premiere the director's version, which Fabian did not let appear. We hope that the Prime Minister will let it be filed correctly and with tolerance, so as not to hurt the hard political issues, on which can rant forever.
And here’s the aforementioned opinion:
# OPINION producer Mikhail Yasinskiy:
------------------------------------------------------------------
"Today Russia is planning television premiere of" Mademoiselle Zhivago "... It is to the original version, which Madame Fabian forced to put on the shelf because of its brutality ... That true cruelty, which I refer only to the subtle directorial flair Badoev, instinct artist, premonition of the future turmoil in the world, in society, and, alas, the turmoil that has touched us with you ... A lot of blood, a lot of pain, Europe won’t understand - she said ... But today she changed her mind. Interestingly, perhaps you do not know, but Alan grew up in Gorlovka ... and he hails from Beslan and also touched trouble and his family ...[Beslan had a school hostage crisis in September 2004, lasted three days and involved the capture of over 1,100 people as hostages, ending with the death of 385 people]. And maybe that's why this film has one story that touched the Chechen theme. But, I think the audience will not see it. After all, the project has a producer ... and the producers always have good reasons for certain decisions. A wise man. Hopefully, his wisdom will be allowed to be seen on this premiere today on "Russia 1" as it is able to, and how this would represent its author, and everyone who worked on it. "
-------------------------------------------------------------
With regard to the two segments not included in the 'allowed' version, the Lara Fabian Connecting People site reviewed their description:
1)[To the song ‘Demaine n’existe pas’]: The action of the first part develops in the near future. Earth is invaded by alien intelligence which is destroying it. In the center of the story - the fate of the soldier, who is lost in a crash. However, he manages to interest Mind incomprehensible to him the essence - love that materialized in the form of a woman, and saves the planet. This is a key part in the film, it shows all the women whose fate will be the subjects of other parts. Their fates are quite different, but united by their love. .
2)[To the song ‘Mama’]: In this novel again talking about death and continuation of life. Pregnant woman taken hostage. At a time when into the hall bursts special forces, in the light appears a child, but his mother dies. And then the child picks up one of the hostages ... NOVELLA was shown at the premiere in Kiev, but was not included in the film, likely due to its resemblance to the conflict in Chechnya and other events.
Perhaps one day we’ll see the ‘Director’s Cut’ that includes them – maybe from the Ukraine if not in Russia. It's good to know it still exists…and which, if one believes Badoev’s previous comments, help make it into a more complete, meaningful movie. Regardless, as Badoev himself noted, it is surprising that Lara allowed Russian TV to show this film on [Russian] Christmas. It may help solidify the view of Lara as having potential as a serious actress as well as a singer, in Russia at least; one wonders if she had had her current management team four years ago whether she would have seized the opportunity to show it in France as well. It also should not pass without notice: serendipitously, Badoev’s desire to emphasize in this film that cruelty exists in the world and cannot be overlooked did get an unfortunate verification with the events in Paris this past week. The prime viewpoint of the film, that love is the only salvation, resonates with Lara's own message for 'Charlie'.
One last item from the Lara Fabian Connecting People site, a return to the positive: a 2015 Lara calendar…
vk.com/lf_cp?z=photo-121236_354587749%2Fwall-121236_191463
A few weeks now before Lara’s appearance in Brooklyn, New York as part of the next (and presumably last) Krutoi gala. Until then there’s nothing explicit on her public calendar, although we are expecting the ‘Greatest Hits’ album to be released by ‘Odacity’ in Turkey sometime this month.

In the difficult moments of life look at the sky: there you will see a large star surrounded by little ones. Know that it's you and we, your angels. We love you, Lara, and will always be "the wind in your wings." We love you. Happy Birthday !!!

It took off after her professional and personal meeting with Rick Allison. It was love at first and then work.

The second major story, of much darker shade, concerns Lara’s reaction to the events in Paris this past week. She put a message on her FB site in response to the shootings at ‘Charlie Hebdo’, the French satirical weekly newspaper; here’s the translation:
-------------------------------------------
Dear all,

May this year give us the strength to remain united beyond all
Give us the space to turn to the other without delay, in order to look him in the eyes and see a brother that we resemble, and a human with whom we make only one… everywhere on this planet...
I AM CHARLIE
Freedom of thought
Freedom of expression
Freedom
Against obscurantism
Let's make resonate our values.
As a sacred bond

He wrote on his Instagram site(
http://instagr.am/p/xmJO2hALNv):
