Lara’s return to touring took place this past week, with a show in Munich on Sunday. Here is the setlist: Je t’aime; J’y crois encore; Caruso; Il est lune; Angel; I Guess I Loved You; Calling You; I Will Love Again Alfonsina y el mar; La Difference; Make me yours tonight; Yeliel (My Angel); Pas sans toi; Mlle. Hyde; Immortelle; Je suis malade; Lyubov Pokhozhanaya Na Son [Love like a Dream - not to be done everywhere]; Adagio. So there were seven songs in French, eight songs in English, one in Italian, one in Spanish, and one in Russian. Outside of the years when Universal did not allow her to sing her French songs during her English album promotion, this must be the first time she has ever willingly given a concert with more English than French songs.
Clearly there were some surprises - the major one obviously was ‘Yelliel’ but ‘Calling You’, ‘Mademoiselle Hyde’, ‘Il est lune’, and the acoustic version of ‘I Will Love Again’ would also not necessarily have been expected. Perhaps a song from the ‘Mlle. Zhivago’ album was sung because the tour will be going to eastern Europe, where people are familiar with it, while there also had to be some song from ‘Le Secret’, her latest album and one that Lara clearly loves. Missing were some standards like ‘Humana’ and some other French songs, since they were allotted fewer slots. And note, no ‘Love By Grace’, despite reports that it was to be included.

As these examples show, Lara was in truly excellent voice. Apparently she wore the black outfit throughout the concert. The decor consisted of four huge picture frames, and curtains that at the beginning were used to hide the four musicians (Giora, Rony, Rami, and Gilad).

The songs we’ve heard, while certainly classifiable as ‘unplugged’, do not seem greatly different from their usual presentation, with the exception of the acoustic version of ‘I Will love Again’. Regardless, the lack of ‘electronic gimmickry’ is likely to be less of a threat to her ears.
The setlist also raises questions about the ‘best of’ CD that Lara is to release through ‘Odacity’ (https://www.facebook.com/odacity/photos/a.579336748757359.1073741825.534028323288202/823368457687519/?type=1&theater). One would have thought it would have been in conjunction with this tour of the same name. It is not yet out, but even when it does arrive, it is hard to imagine it will in fact have much to do with the tour, at least directly, as there is little likelihood that it will match this setlist. Thus there appears to be little coordination between the two efforts, but perhaps that was never intended – in effect, the CD being just a promotion of Lara’s name. As we read in that publicity release link above, it will include ‘Make Me Yours Tonight’, Lara’s duet with Mustafa Ceceli (and that at least does overlap the tour setlist). ‘Lara Fabian Turkey’ reported that the single had climbed two positions this past week on the official Turkish charts ( Top 20 / Kral Pop Tv), and is now at number 6.
In other news concerning CDs, the album “Les enfants du Top 50", with French artists performing the hits from the 80s and 90s will be available for sale on October 13th, including Lara’s singing of ‘Une femme avec une femme’, and her duet of ‘On se retrouvera’. It can be bought on iTunes, at least in France (https://itunes.apple.com/fr/album/les-enfants-du-top-50/id920755609?l=en) where one can now preview the songs. It is not available (yet) in some other countries (e.g., the U.S. iTunes), and we’ll see if it ever is. This proceeds by about two weeks the broadcast of the show on October 28, on French TV M6. The webpage for this show now has more than 10,000 likes (https://www.facebook.com/LesEnfantsDuTop50), while the official video clip for the show of one of the songs (‘T’en va pas’) has of this writing almost 200,000 views (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAwd0iKTusQ).
It was reported, in a conversation with Benjamin Bocconi, that Lara is working with Mathieu Daquin as an arranger for her next album, presumably the French one, but perhaps the English album as well (www.justmusic.fr/actualites/interview-rencontre-avec-benjamin-bocconi-2-107044). He has worked with Pascal Obispo, among others.
And more with respect to Lara’s future plans – it appears that Lara will be making good on her pledge to come to the Americas even sooner than expected. After more than a decade of absence from that country, she will be appearing in Sao Paulo, Brazil November 8th and 9th (http://concertwith.me/fr/tour-dates/Lara+Fabian).
