Lara was not sitting back this past week waiting for the resumption of her touring career; apparently she was in Russia for a private concert. Clips of a few of the songs are available at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ptplm3SMVI
Some of these songs she may well do on her upcoming tour (although the ‘Russian song Love Like a Dream’ is probably less likely).
Russia has been referred to as Lara’s ‘second home’, and it certainly seems that she’s very comfortable there. It raises the question, albeit indirectly, of the future of the next album with Krutoi. Most likely it is different from Lara’s intended releases of two albums next spring, and if it does have a separate identity, there will thus be a lot of new music coming from her.
Perhaps it was that trip which initially gave rise to the doubts as to whether she would appear at the taping today in Paris of "Les 30 ans du top 50" program. However, she has now publicly acknowledged, on her FB site, that she will be there. She is to sing "Une femme avec une femme" and "On se retrouvera" in duo with Yoan Fréget. A photo of Lara at that location has already been posted by a fan, at:
The show will be broadcast on TV M6 at a much later, still undetermined date.
This appearance presumably is part of Lara’s intention to keep in touch with the Francophile audience. Another example is the announcement that Lara will be back in Brussels in November, on the 28th, for the Little Dreams Foundation, founded by Orianne and Phil Collins. Its mission “is to help young talents, disabled or not, to fulfil their dreams in the artistic or sportive fields.”
And while on the subject of worthy causes, that same month, on November 7th, Lara will be present for ‘L'Enfant des Étoiles’ presentation of "Maïre 2014". Here’s some (translated) information on the show, obtained from the following sources,

--------------------------------------
“In a few weeks, ‘l’Enfant des Etoiles’ of Rixensart [Belgium] presents its 13th show. As has been the case since 1997, the sports center will host a musical comedy that will involve more than 200 people. 13,000 people are expected during the 17 performances of ‘Maire 2014’, the new musical. Max Zimmermann and Philip Michaux attended the presentation of the 2014 edition Tuesday night at the Chateau Lake Genval." The production works for the benefit of children and youth.
The spectators will be immersed in the atmosphere of a Haitian village in the 16th century, and so the focus is on Central America. "History tell the adventures of a 16-year-old girl who possesses extraordinary powers and who must confront an enemy coming from the East, explains project leader, Charles Gérard. We will propose a different performance of the preceding. Less magical but more mysterious, surprising and spellbinding.
The topics covered will evoke the respect for nature, freedom, tolerance, witchcraft and Voodoo worldwide. Almost two hundred dancers, actors and singers will be part. A handful of children with a disability will also be in the adventure. The singer Lara Fabian has agreed to be the godmother of ‘Maire’. She should be present in Rixensart on Friday, November 7. She could participate, on stage, in the finale.
For the rest, the rehearsals are progressing well. Nono Battesti the choreographer is now part of the adventure. He frames, along with Virginie Electeur, the young dancers. 'A backbreaking work, he smiles. But it is a very interesting experience.' Born in Haiti, Nono Balouch is regularly approached by different teams for one or the other opinion. Beside him, Sacha Swierczynski, a responsible voice, is already satisfied with the present result: 'We are progressing very well. There are in total twenty-two songs, with very different styles.'
Technically, it should be noted that l’Enfant des Etoiles’ will use for the first time the 'mapping'. It is a technology for projecting the light or videos on volumes, recreating images of large size on structures in relief, such as monuments. 'This will dramatically change the perceptions of the audience, noted Charles Gérard, as the choreographic fight scenes or the dance of Zombies will be surprising.'"
And from www.lavenir.net/article/detail.aspx?articleid=dmf20140909_00525997):
“John Martin's Brewery, led by Anthony Martin, decided to brew a beer called 'Maïre'. Beer, which is also the national drink in Haiti, was designed especially for the occasion.
"Our teams have conducted some research work to design a beer with exotic scents, says Anthony Martin. It will be in line with Timmermans, which are the oldest in the world. Made of fresh pineapple juice, light beer that is more aimed at a female audience.
The Maïre will be distributed at the show and for sale in a few shops around Rixensart. It is expected to distribute 10,000 hectoliters, or about 300,000 bottles. All profits will be donated to l’Enfant des Etoiles’. The more distant future of Maïre is currently unknown."
--------------------------------------
On the other hand, the one occurrence that would have really propelled Lara back into the consciousness of the French public, will now definitely not happen. Last week it was reported that Jenifer and Mika had decided to stay as coaches on the French version of ‘The Voice’, joining Florent Pagny. However, there was still one more spot as Garou was not returning; Rozenn Roz on the MZ FB site reported this week that ‘Zazie’ had been chosen for it (despite Zazie’s previously expressed disdain for these types of shows). Lara would have been perfect, both very vocal and compassionate, but also perhaps much more controversial.
Instead, as a sign of the times, promotion continues in various countries for the upcoming tour. An interview appeared in Bulgaria (where Lara will be, in Sofia, on October 22 and 23), and it indicated that a documentary about her is being filmed for broadcast earlier October on Bulgarian TV. Here’s the translation:
--------------------------------------------------
Brussels famous cafe "Vitamer" was turned into a film set. Journalist Georgi Toshev and Rumen Vasilev shoot a documentary about LARA FABIAN. The best-selling Belgian singer relates memories of her childhood in Italy. She speaks candidly about the success of hits like "Je t’aime" and "Adagio", difficult periods in her career and personal life.
BTV will broadcast the film two weeks before the long-awaited concert of the star on 22 and 23 October in Hall 1 of NDK 20: 00h.
"I feel happy. To touch for the first time to a new audience is always exciting, "said LARA FABIAN before Toshev.
LARA FABIAN now lives in Brussels with her family - wife of Gabrielle di Giorgio, who is an Italian magician, and daughter Lou. Gabriel accompanied his wife during the filming of the documentary, but refused to stand in front of the camera. "This is a film about her, right?" replied rhetorically Giorgio to Toshev's invitation to stand on the other side of the camera, and he prefered to observe the shooting process discreetly.
Unlike other artists, LARA FABIAN makes no demands on the Bulgarian team. She was patient enough during the shooting day. Constantly beside her was her personal assistant, Anna.
"I am happy that you agreed to this adventure - Georgi Toshev said after returning from Brussels, - FABIAN is known to very rarely gives interviews [sic]. This will now be one of the few cases in which she speaks candidly about her personal life [again, sic]. I am grateful to our partners ALPHA BANK, who made this film possible. "
Which international stars have made duets with LARA FABIAN, what she dreamed as a child, and how to deal with the challenge of being a working woman and a caring mother, what is prepared for their Bulgarian fans, all this viewers will learn on BTV in mid-October. And fans of LARA FABIAN can still buy a ticket to her show at the Sofia Ticket Center NPC shops in Piccadilly, Office 1, Germanos, OMV gas stations and online system Eventim.bg. Tickets are priced at 60 to 120 BGN. and VIP from 150 BGN. [Note: 100 BGN is about $65 or 51 euros].
--------------------------------------------------
Lara was also being promoted on Lithuanian TV (she will be in Kaunas, Lithuania, October 15). She was on Lithuania Tv BTV, on 9/19, visible at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNkcgEi85JQ
while another program from the same country can be seen at:
www.facebook.com/video.php?v=536927076453970&set=vb.353946178085395&type=2&theater
Unfortunately, in each case the translation makes it difficult to hear some of Lara’s words, but at the least one can see which clips they’ve chosen. It’s also obvious that Lara feels speaking in English is the way to go for interviews in these countries. This concert is listed as one of the highlights for the season there:
www.facebook.com/246805652001644/photos/a.247913198557556.83420.246805652001644/933008293381373/?type=1&theater
This is true also in Offenbach, Germany (October 8):
www.facebook.com/246805652001644/photos/a.247913198557556.83420.246805652001644/932842376731298/?type=1&theater
while the standard poster for the tour can be seen from Dusseldorf, Germany (October 9):
www.facebook.com/246805652001644/photos/a.247913198557556.83420.246805652001644/932854960063373/?type=1&theater
The amount of attention the press in these countries, and Lara herself, are devoting to this ‘international tour’ is an order of magnitude greater than her previous excursions to eastern Europe, or even Russia for that matter. And, perhaps because they found out about it, she’s now even mentioning it to the French press, instead of avoiding it as she has done in the past. More English songs appear to be in the offing for this tour, and more interviews in English - combined with the statements she’s already made about her ‘American tour’ next spring (both North America and South America, where she would likely speak Spanish ) it would appear that Lara is taking her ‘citizen of the world’ identity more seriously than ever before. It would seem as if this will also produce more recorded albums and more appearances for fans who have long been deprived of her presence.
Now, as we wind down the review of ‘best of' videos, here are songs of Lara’s which were ‘overlooked’ in the alphabetical survey. As will be obvious, they are in no way inferior to the titles covered earlier. In general there are only one or two videos available of each, mostly because they were from earlier in her career.

‘Croire’ was of course Lara’s entry in the 1988 Eurovision contest, where she finished in fourth place (after leading in the semi-finals). The first choice above is obviously from that show, including the cute intro (which I’m sure now makes Lara blush). The second is a TV show performance of it. And of course, there was the official video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YMU99g5NY0) (with the dog for some reason! – maybe they’re considered ‘trustworthy’ ). While Lara didn’t get the judges’ top vote, she certainly got the public’s – as indicated by ChartsinFrance, the single sold 400,000 copies. She even included it on some editions of her first French album in Quebec. By the time she had returned to France some 10 years later, everyone there had forgotten about it, and her.
Originally from the ‘Carpe Diem’ album, ‘Dites moi pourquoi je l'aime’ was one of the highlights of the 1999 ‘Lara Fabian Live’ album – like ‘Le Secret’, that album too debuted as #1 in France, but it’s subsequent run was quite different. The album stayed in first place for four weeks, and ended up selling some 450,000 copies. The first choice is one of the great Lara ‘chair’ videos – perhaps the best of them all, considering the ending! The second choice is another intense performance, this time from a 1995 Sonia Benezra show. This song wasn’t chosen by Universal as one of Lara’s ‘Best of”, but it could have been. She doesn’t sing it anymore, which is a shame, for one imagines she could still produce a powerful heart-felt rendition.
‘Il existe un endroit’, sort of an early French version of ‘Ever Ever Land’, was also from the ‘Carpe Diem’ album. There are no videos I’m aware of from its own time, but Lara did do it twice subsequently. The video chosen above is from a concert in Moscow in 2007; as she explains, she was cued in to do it because the Russian piano on stage was of the same make as the piano she wrote it on, given to her by her parents. She performed it also at her Casino de Paris show in 2006, smiling as she did it probably because she knew it was such a surprise for the audience. Still she showed a lot of confidence in their knowing the words! I’ve put it together from various available pieces (https://app.box.com/s/y5ulmlydlor3n0zdv0kb)
‘Le jour ou tu partiras’ was released as a single from her first French album. Another rousing song, the two videos are again from the early 90s. While the words of the song suggest Lara will feel some sorrow the ‘day that he leaves’, the rhythm is obviously upbeat. The song of a young invincible woman – when someone does actually leave, a decade later in ‘Parce que tu pars’, her emotions are quite different.
This video of ‘Quedate’, the only one I’m aware of, is from the ‘From Lara with Love’ PBS show. The song was a bit hit in the Americas, not only in Latin America but also in some of the Hispanic areas in the US (where the listeners had absolutely no idea who the singer was ). Another title that could easily have been on the ‘best of’ CD but wasn’t.
‘Qui pense a l’amour’, from Lara’s first album, was released as a single (by Musicor) with three different mixes – it is certainly the type of song that lends itself to that. The two rousing performances are from 1992 and 1993.
Next week we will finish the ‘best of’ videos with cover songs that Lara has performed occasionally, and for which it wouldn’t be surprising if they showed up on one or another of her upcoming excursions – that begin in less than two weeks!
