A few items concerning Lara from the past, present and future popped up this past week.
In news related to Lara’s appearance in Turkey two weeks ago: what is being advertised as a ‘Making of” clip of ‘Make Me Yours Tonight’ became available thanks to (https://www.facebook.com/Larafabianturkiye/timeline) and Jean Cristoffer Santos, at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qCstTRhnus
Presumably, this is just a video someone took while the shooting was going on, and was not meant to be an informative ‘Making Of’…
Another fan video of Lara’s concert appearance in Turkey also became available, marginally better and a bit more complete than the others, at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZZ3EFOiHDE
Lara’s Twitter site, posted the following images, showing that the single is #11 in Kyrgystan on ‘hot music charts’, and #10 on iTunes (https://twitter.com/search?q=LFabian%20Official&src=typd). They also noted the story in ‘Downtown’ magazine, as can be seen on the Twitter page of one of the song’s writers (/photo/1). That site also noted that a review from Luxembourg indicated the song had ‘impressive vocals’ (https://twitter.com/YBellapaisiotis). Larafabianweb.com reported that the single is being played on a Belgium radio station, www.rtbf.be/purefm/; it reached #35 in that country (http://www.ultratop.be/fr/song/14255a/Lara-Fabian-&-Mustafa-Ceceli-Make-Me-Yours-Tonight). It is no longer in the top 50 there however, nor is it in the top 100 on iTunes in Turkey.
Mustafa sent a very nice message (in English) to an event in Brussels on Sunday organized by Lara’s fans (La page des Fabianesk). It can be seen (thanks to Lara Fabian Turkey) at:
www.facebook.com/video.php?v=702593459817436&set=vb.682422835167832&type=2&theater
A video of the various ‘gifts’ at the event itself, including Mustafa’s message, can also be seen at www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GbuvSci6_k#t=11. With that video, we too have the gifts!
In news related to Lara’s FB challenge last week: the MZ FB site noted that Maurane, the last of the three whom Lara ‘nominated’, has done the ‘ice-bucket challenge’ for ALS:
www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152234849226331&set=vb.11670671330&type=2&theater
She in turn nominated Pascal Negre, Beverly Jo Scott and Zazie. Perhaps what is most interesting about these events is the list of people whom they nominate, indicating who their closest, deemed-willing, contacts in the ‘business’ are.
This past Friday, Lara was at ‘Puy du Fou’, which is an historical theme park in western France. According to Wikipedia, it has five separate theme shows:
1)’The Secret of the Lance’ is set in front of the battlements of a Middle Age Castle. It relates the story of a young shepherdess who must defend alone her donjon from the English knights, helped by a lance with supernatural powers.
2) ‘The Vikings’ is set in a reconstructed 1000 year old fortress that is attacked by a Viking Longship. The story begins with a marriage in the village, just before the arrival of a Viking longboat. Special effects include the emergence of a Longboat from underwater, and a saint walking on the water.
3) ‘Triumph's Sign’ is set in a replica of an amphitheater that is 115 meters long and 75 meters wide. It recreates the Gaul atmosphere during Roman times. It features a traditional parade of people and animals, gladiatorial combat, chariot racing and executions. It is set during the time of Diocletian, when there was great unrest.
4) ‘The Phantom Birds Dance’ is a show set to a mysterious story. Dozens of birds of prey surge from the ruins and swoop low over the heads of the visitors. The falcons are placed on the heads of some visitors wearing hats by the falconers. Many of the larger birds are released from a balloon floating far overhead. This ends with around a hundred birds flying at once around the audience.
5) ‘Richelieu's Musketeers’ features Musketeers performing swash-buckling sword fighting and Gypsy girls Flamenco dancing in water. Horses also perform special trotting/ jumping techniques. Performed in complete darkness, this is the only show that is staged indoors.
There are also other smaller musical shows and magic shows. Most of the performers are actually volunteers. Here are two pictures of Lara there, some minutes before the beginning of the show:
www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=870978166312627&set=p.870978166312627&type=1&theater
www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10204581664283192&set=p.10204581664283192&type=1&theater
People who met her there described her as smiling, friendly and ‘dippy’, and moved by the shows.
The video of the single ‘Kiss and Love’, whose profits go to fight AIDS, was released this past weekend, and is available for viewing at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKDuTlSxb5Q
While Lara is part of this ‘Sidaction’ effort, she is not on the video. She will be on the album, due to be released November 3, in a duet with Michel Jonasz. Thierry Palomares on the MZ FB site reminded people that Lara has already performed a duet with him for Sidaction, in 2006, visible at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcHds19I2Ac
Last week we included the picture of Lara and a corresponding one of Dalida, to whom she’s often been compared. Their voices were not at all alike, but both have/had passionate fans (as well as a joint-Italian heritage). The LFIAG site has long had a video of Dalida’s version of ‘Je suis malade’ on its front page, so one can see the contrast with Lara’s well-known versions. In their opinion, Dalida’s, at its heart, is sadder than Lara’s – Dalida had four men close to her in her life commit suicide. It’s at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxCnKU0Gx7E.
The Lara Fabian Turkey FB site announced that the Odacity record label will include the songs that do the best in a survey conducted on that site in the upcoming ‘Best of’ CD scheduled for release this coming fall. The link for the poll is:
www.facebook.com/Larafabianturkiye?v=app_126231547426086&app_data=%7B%7D
On the form, ‘Diğer’ means ‘other’, where one can enter any song not listed. ‘Gönder’ means ‘validate’. ‘Taman’, which appears in the lower right hand corner after one validates means ‘ok’. As I suggested last week, the entry I think worthy is ‘Tout’. Be sure to make your choice known if you feel strongly enough about it.
An article and corresponding video in the French Closer, (http://www.closermag.fr/people/videos-people/clip-buzz-lara-fabian-en-pleine-forme-drague-la-turquie-avec-make-me-yours-tonight-386158), while mostly concerned with Lara’s Turkish adventure, quoted a rumor that Lara has a desire to ‘conquer’ the UK market. With her stated upcoming release next spring of a new English language album one presumes that means she will include the UK on her tour schedule in that time frame, to the extent that this is true. She has already mentioned a tour of the US, and North America in general, for next March. Of course, the program could have gotten it wrong, misinterpreting a desire to ‘conquer the English-speaking world’ to mean UK instead of US.
Now for the next three ‘best of’ videos’. Continuing the theme started last week, two of the leading videos feature duets.
Un ange est tombe: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofQ0gEW4zxo
: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKI8E2vT4D4
: app.box.com/s/1v8yrbibfg753nug33nd
Un Ave Maria: www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7faUysT60U
: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQrJI4vIYec
: app.box.com/s/xgs3wbthtmfdhrb2sx14
Un cuore malato: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yGGfAKFaIM
‘Un ange est tombe’ is another wonderful song from ‘Le Secret’, one that could easily have been a single release. Again, due to the abbreviated tour, we don’t have a professional video of this, but there are a number of exceptionally good shots from the audience, as well as the ‘Evergig’ fan compilation (the third choice above). The first video is from Namur, and the second from one of the Paris shows – the difference relates to how much of Lara’s outfit one wants to see . Other excellent videos are from the Paris show the day before (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dQ5yUsxfsc) and from Moscow (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmHgEhLEbII), among others.
[This goes to remind us that Lara has not yet released the compilation fan video of the tour for which many people sent in their contributions].
The first video chosen for ‘Un Ave Maria’ is of course the duet with Gregory Lemarchal, who tragically died from cystic fibrosis. He is still mourned by the French public, and will forever remain an example of overcoming odds – as Lara said, he became a singer despite having almost no lung power. The second video, chosen for its obvious video quality, is from the ‘Un regard neuf’ DVD. The third choice is from the show ‘La Method Cauet’, and is picked because it shows the normally cynical Cauet happily dancing to the ballad, and greeting Lara courteously at the end! There are a number of others of very high quality, including TV shows, e.g. (https://app.box.com/s/xk0owbu3uz8fpxy3njpm; www.youtube.com/watch?v=RShW3lBVQzE; app.box.com/s/ys42swdrfpkf5tipl01f with the beautifully different hairstyle) and fan videos from Moscow (https://app.box.com/s/c53lidic2o78rqqsesn8) and Montreal (https://app.box.com/s/2ft8z04h0uponabkomql). The latter is a personal video, which was taken despite Lara’s bodyguard Yannick (e.g., www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCckzDUVapw) threatening to throw me out, and Lara threatening to cut his throat for disturbing her during the song [came right after the video ended]) . And of course Lara made a very symbolic and moving video of it to accompany the Neuf album (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR5K21ORGN0). [/a]
Who can forget Lara’s wiggling her hips while singing ‘Un cuore malato’ live at the San Reno festival in Italy with Gigi d’Alessio. While not visible in that video, the somewhat lecherous male emcee commented on Lara’s suggestive movements after the song was over (see www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Zg1Y9mYlEg). Lara was clearly getting into the mood of the song, and perhaps her Italian/Mediterranean heritage . Again, other worthy versions exist (e.g., www.youtube.com/watch?v=1W3R47FxhEI), and of course there was that excellent official video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ry1wFMwwidc) [undeniably much more interesting and dynamic than the recent video of ‘Make Me Yours Tonight’, a somewhat similar summer song. This is the way to make a music video, IMHO].
This coming week, the first full ‘return’ after the summer holidays in France, Lara will be on TV5 responding to a questionnaire concerning ‘fashion and life’ (https://www.facebook.com/lapagedesfabianesk/photos/a.562919410434845.1073741837.501577866569000/740731335986984/?type=1&theater). One can imagine that she will make her presence known in other ways, perhaps trying to emphasize her concern with the French speaking public before she embarks on a tour that will take her far from them.
