The peak of Lara’s Turkish adventure took place this past week, with her appearance at the concert of Mustafa Ceceli. They performed a live duet of the song ‘Make Me Yours Tonight”, and then Lara sang an ‘old-fashioned’ version of ‘Je t’aime’, with Mustafa playing the piano for her. From what we can tell, the duet was sung with more movement, and life, then the video – they should just have waited and embedded portions of the live performance, as was done with the video for “Un cuore malato” with Gigi d’Alessio.
As for Lara’s performance of ‘Je t’aime’, those who were first attracted to Lara by how she performed that song 17 years ago should rejoice that she is still able to do it that way. Needing no conciliatory approach to appease French critics, Lara was free of all constraints and could thus give full voice to the song. An advertisement most likely for the ‘best of’ album discussed below.

These programs are of course in Turkish, but in all of them Lara shows up speaking English, in some cases in their studios. [It almost reminds one of the media blitzes Lara used to make in Canada earlier this century, when she was there for a week and was on 10 different programs]. Lara comments on her meeting with Mustafa and her respect for him, Turkish cuisine, etc. She noted that one of the writers of ‘Make Me Yours Tonight’ was Sezan Aksu, a ‘diva’ in her own right, and "who more appropriate to write a song for a ‘diva’ than another one"? What has become a classic 'Can not Forget' makes a great start to the concert; with a piece by Mustafa Ceceli, I was greeted with an extraordinary relevance.
Created specifically for the concert at Symphony Orchestra where Mustafa Ceceli appeared on stage, the audience included the mother and father of Aisha Bekir Cecelia to whom he gave thanks. Ceceli had an internal dialogue and exchange with the audience throughout the concert with his acclaimed modest demeanor. In the meantime, the audience sang emotional songs; with mobile phones when artists ask you to create a flood of light, into the Open-Air, it has a magical atmosphere. Mustafa Ceceli’s repertoire included songs interpreted in the past as well as the beautiful songs on the new album which will be out later this year. It was the first time the songs were presented to the audience. In the second part of the concert, the well-known world artist Lara Fabian was a guest on stage. Accompanied by dancers in colorful costumes, their interests joined in 2014 for the single 'Take me' which the artists sang together, and which won the admiration of the audience. After Lara Fabian sang 'Je t'aime’ and was accompanied by him on the piano. Lara Fabian wore a white costume for the concert prepared by Semih Doğruer.

Of course, we’ve seen this all before – Lara goes someplace new, makes a big splash, is the darling of the local press due to her talent, appearance, intelligence and personality, says she intends to further her career there, and doesn’t follow up. The latest incarnation of that was with Gigi d’Alessio in Italy, and if she didn’t pursue an Italian career, in the country so dear to her heart, what makes anybody think she’ll return to Turkey anytime soon? Her past featured the whirlwind tour in Brazil (she still has never gone back), and of course the U.S., and one could even now include Canada in the list of countries with abandoned fans. However, one difference is that, as the article mentioned, Lara is apparently releasing an album in Turkey especially for that market (and the 'Countries to the East, probably related to the upcoming tour). This is something she has never done even in Italy (or Brazil for that matter), although ‘Un cuore malato’ and its French equivalent ‘Un coeur blesse’ did appear in various commercial guises. [Lara said local record companies in Italy made it impossible to release an album there without getting into Sony-like contract restrictions]. On the site of ‘Odacity’ Records

Another indication that Lara is serious about her commitment to working in this arena, part of her greater focus on her international career, came this morning, when ‘Lara Fabian Türkiye‘ carried the following announcement (in translation):
“Lara will come to Turkey for a series of concerts this winter (winter Date: End 2014 (December) / Early 2015 (until March)). Locations and dates are currently planned in a way to not only include Istanbul, but other cities such as in the Republic of Cyprus. The exact dates will be announced on Lara Fabian Türkiye page. Concerts will have a ‘Best Of/Unplugged’ format. She will be performing her biggest hits, accompanied by an acoustic orchestra. It is also planned that she will be joined on stage by some surprise guests.”
So apparently this is more than a quick ‘Turkish delight’ (which in one of the interviews Lara noted is a confectionary that she enjoys). Perhaps she has learned the lesson, after many years, that dipping one’s toe in the water does not make one a swimmer. One advantage of new markets: Lara’s ‘best’ songs from years ago are new to them, as this record – and her choice to perform the old version of ‘Je t’aime’ – goes to show.

The ‘pitiblog’ article mentioned the other albums that Lara appears to be lining up. They repeated what we had heard directly from Lara in the ‘Paris Match’ article concerning both English language and French language album releases for next spring. Julian Piraud also seemed to think that the next Mademoiselle Zhivago-type album, with Igor Krutoi, would be another entirely different disc, for the Russian/Countries to the East’ market. Then with this autumn album for Turkey, one is looking at four albums in less than a year. We’ll see if all this comes to pass - if it does, Lara will truly be ramping up her recording/international career. This may be the upside of being free of a controlling record company. Tickets in Lara’s upcoming international venues appear to be selling rapidly. She has now added another concert in Prague (October 17th). The English language version set to the music from ‘Si tu m’aimes’, ‘To Love Again’ was performed by itself several times (in addition to the combo-version with its French counterpart discussed previously). The choice here is from the “From Lara with Love’ PBS special, as it also gives us the chance to include Lara’s famous story of her ‘being’ a singer at the age of five, told as an introduction to it. ‘Toccami’ was performed various times on TV associated with the MZ album, but in lip-synch form. So choosing from among them comes down to the creativity of the video and Lara’s outfit. You may remember that a number of fans actually preferred the song in English when the album came out. Again with lip-sync our choices, the Moscow TV concert is the best version. In this case, there was no MZ movie clip – however, there was one with ‘Demain n’existe ‘pas’ filmed, but Lara did not allow it to be included in the release. It had her as a pregnant woman, and one can imagine that Lara did not like what Badoev did with that scenario. With Turkey now in the rear view mirror, there is nothing immediate on her public schedule, but she may well pop up anywhere, in any country it now seems. What has become a classic 'Can not Forget' makes a great start to the concert; with a piece by Mustafa Ceceli, I was greeted with an extraordinary relevance.
Created specifically for the concert at Symphony Orchestra where Mustafa Ceceli appeared on stage, the audience included the mother and father of Aisha Bekir Cecelia to whom he gave thanks. Ceceli had an internal dialogue and exchange with the audience throughout the concert with his acclaimed modest demeanor. In the meantime, the audience sang emotional songs; with mobile phones when artists ask you to create a flood of light, into the Open-Air, it has a magical atmosphere. Mustafa Ceceli’s repertoire included songs interpreted in the past as well as the beautiful songs on the new album which will be out later this year. It was the first time the songs were presented to the audience. In the second part of the concert, the well-known world artist Lara Fabian was a guest on stage. Accompanied by dancers in colorful costumes, their interests joined in 2014 for the single 'Take me' which the artists sang together, and which won the admiration of the audience. After Lara Fabian sang 'Je t'aime’ and was accompanied by him on the piano. Lara Fabian wore a white costume for the concert prepared by Semih Doğruer.

Of course, we’ve seen this all before – Lara goes someplace new, makes a big splash, is the darling of the local press due to her talent, appearance, intelligence and personality, says she intends to further her career there, and doesn’t follow up. The latest incarnation of that was with Gigi d’Alessio in Italy, and if she didn’t pursue an Italian career, in the country so dear to her heart, what makes anybody think she’ll return to Turkey anytime soon? Her past featured the whirlwind tour in Brazil (she still has never gone back), and of course the U.S., and one could even now include Canada in the list of countries with abandoned fans. However, one difference is that, as the article mentioned, Lara is apparently releasing an album in Turkey especially for that market (and the 'Countries to the East, probably related to the upcoming tour). This is something she has never done even in Italy (or Brazil for that matter), although ‘Un cuore malato’ and its French equivalent ‘Un coeur blesse’ did appear in various commercial guises. [Lara said local record companies in Italy made it impossible to release an album there without getting into Sony-like contract restrictions]. On the site of ‘Odacity’ Records

Another indication that Lara is serious about her commitment to working in this arena, part of her greater focus on her international career, came this morning, when ‘Lara Fabian Türkiye‘ carried the following announcement (in translation):
“Lara will come to Turkey for a series of concerts this winter (winter Date: End 2014 (December) / Early 2015 (until March)). Locations and dates are currently planned in a way to not only include Istanbul, but other cities such as in the Republic of Cyprus. The exact dates will be announced on Lara Fabian Türkiye page. Concerts will have a ‘Best Of/Unplugged’ format. She will be performing her biggest hits, accompanied by an acoustic orchestra. It is also planned that she will be joined on stage by some surprise guests.”
So apparently this is more than a quick ‘Turkish delight’ (which in one of the interviews Lara noted is a confectionary that she enjoys). Perhaps she has learned the lesson, after many years, that dipping one’s toe in the water does not make one a swimmer. One advantage of new markets: Lara’s ‘best’ songs from years ago are new to them, as this record – and her choice to perform the old version of ‘Je t’aime’ – goes to show.

[‘Nouveau Createur’, on the MZ FB site, noted how much this photo looks like one of Dalida, to whom Lara is often compared: see www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=313932822121025&set=p.313932822121025&type=1&theater].
The ‘pitiblog’ article mentioned the other albums that Lara appears to be lining up. They repeated what we had heard directly from Lara in the ‘Paris Match’ article concerning both English language and French language album releases for next spring. Julian Piraud also seemed to think that the next Mademoiselle Zhivago-type album, with Igor Krutoi, would be another entirely different disc, for the Russian/Countries to the East’ market. Then with this autumn album for Turkey, one is looking at four albums in less than a year. We’ll see if all this comes to pass - if it does, Lara will truly be ramping up her recording/international career. This may be the upside of being free of a controlling record company. Tickets in Lara’s upcoming international venues appear to be selling rapidly. She has now added another concert in Prague (October 17th). And to emphasize that the ‘Russian adventure’ is still going strong, a nice poster appeared with regard to the upcoming ‘gala’ celebrating Igor Krutoi’s having turned 60 this year; that can be seen at:

There was an article published on the website dedicated to news about the Eurovision Song Contest - ESCTODAY.COM. As you remember, Lara had participated in the Eurovision Song Contest at the age of 18 in Dublin, in 1988, with the song "Croire", and came in 4th. The same year, a certain Céline Dion won with a song titled "Ne Partez pas Sans Moi", written by Turkish composer Atilla Sereftug.
During her interviews in Turkey last week, Lara answered a question related to her Eurovision participation with the following words:

The English language version set to the music from ‘Si tu m’aimes’, ‘To Love Again’ was performed by itself several times (in addition to the combo-version with its French counterpart discussed previously). The choice here is from the “From Lara with Love’ PBS special, as it also gives us the chance to include Lara’s famous story of her ‘being’ a singer at the age of five, told as an introduction to it. ‘Toccami’ was performed various times on TV associated with the MZ album, but in lip-synch form. So choosing from among them comes down to the creativity of the video and Lara’s outfit. Still in the ‘Mademoiselle Zhivago’ mode, ‘Tomorrow is a Lie’ is of course the English language version of ‘Demain n’existe pas’. You may remember that a number of fans actually preferred the song in English when the album came out. Again with lip-sync our choices, the Moscow TV concert is the best version. In this case, there was no MZ movie clip – however, there was one with ‘Demain n’existe ‘pas’ filmed, but Lara did not allow it to be included in the release. It had her as a pregnant woman, and one can imagine that Lara did not like what Badoev did with that scenario. With Turkey now in the rear view mirror, there is nothing immediate on her public schedule, but she may well pop up anywhere, in any country it now seems. As August winds down, Lara must be buoyed that her summer and her life appear to have turned around, along with her health. Let’s hope everything stays in this positive mode.
