Another week with no public sightings of Lara, and no new official postings on her FB site. This is not really worrisome, because usually the approach of summer signals a sharp drop-off in activity especially in France, except for specific summer festivals. In Lara’s case, however, a drop-off from what were already very minimal levels approaches a ‘flat-line’ condition, and some of the various fan sites are mimicking that state as well.
Nevertheless, Lara’s official FB site has now hit 600K ‘likes’. You may wonder how that compares with other contemporary women singers of French music. Here are some comparisons:
Amel Bent 1.5M
Jenifer 876K
Mylene Farmer (non-official) 804K
Nolwenn Leroy 349K
Zazie 331K
Helene Segara 283K
Charlotte Gainsbourg 241K
Chimene Badi 195K
Isabelle Boulay 179K
Patricia Kass 138K
Maurane 124K
Laam 35K
Of course, some of these artists have careers much shorter than Lara, and not all put much effort into their FB sites, but by this standard Lara is not doing badly. What is amazing, however, and not in a good way, is that with all these FB ‘likes’, Lara could only sell one out of ten of them her wonderful ‘Le Secret’ CD.
Similarly, Lara is currently #1 in the ‘Legends of French song’ contest run by ‘buzz-land’ (http://www.buzz-land.com/la-legende-de-la-chanson-francophone/). Here too, the comment about this translating into CD sales applies…
Another indication of popularity is the number of fan sites, and in that respect as well, Lara is well-represented. In our review of Lara’s fan sites, another one to note is ‘Lara Fabian II” (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lara-Fabian-II/225316870906800). It offers a new photo almost every day.
With the opening of the World Cup, ‘Closer’ had an article concerning the songs that artists sing for their football (soccer) teams (http://www.closermag.fr/people/news-people/coupe-du-monde-johnny-hallyday-lara-fabian-anastacia-les-hymnes-kitch-audio-337554). The portion concerned with Lara is translated below:

Every four years, the FIFA World Cup brings together millions of fans around the world. But it is also an opportunity for artists to release a song to support a team. Dive into the memory of the most embarrassing hymns.
Lara Fabian
Certainly 2002 was a surprising year in the hymns of the World Cup. And another artist who was not expected in this niche then: Lara Fabian! The singer, born in Belgium, had been chosen by her native country to sing the anthem of their football team. The title ‘World at Your Feet’ is a song sung in English, first attempt of collaboration between the performer of ‘Je t’aime’ and Gary Barlow, member of Take That. A title that will go unnoticed, but that did not bring bad luck to the team, which managed to rank eighth this year.

The song was included in "The Official Album of the 2002 FIFA World Cup”. It can be found at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgOA1kI6JO4&list=PLdv1MqZHmvZ6UyRpFJ5bC3qe7tBVvI-nb
And…speaking of past videos, here are the latest ‘best of’ videos:

Mirage: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZexmywKUwzA
Mamy Blue: This was the second time Lara chose to walk through the audience during a song (following ‘La Difference’ ten years earlier), although here it was her entrance to the auditorium at the beginning of the ‘TLFM font leur show’. The choice is from the official DVD of it, but there are other notable videos, including one with Gerard acting as one of her bodyguards (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UH5alEkFAKc).
Message Personnel: As usual with the videos involving holograms, the best one for this song comes from the ‘TLFM font leur show’ DVD. The second video is the essence of cuteness, the duet with little Laura – who is not at all shy! A nice photo of the two of them can be seen at: www.facebook.com/216109191904783/photos/a.255022394680129.1073741860.216109191904783/279744762207892/?type=1&theater
Mirage: The best video for this song comes from Colfontaine (10-6-13). Of interest here is that it nicely features Lara’s husband, doing a magic trick with a ‘ghost’, which was a standard part of the tour. So once again there is a link in this week’s videos, with the two men of her most serious recent relationships (Gerard and Gabriel) both appearing.
In the next week summer officially begins, but we don’t expect things to heat up for Lara until late July. We started out by saying that Lara’s silence is not particularly worrisome, but it isn’t reassuring, either. Hopefully she is now either fully recovered, or substantially better. If true, it would be nice if she were to let her fans know with a direct statement, as gratitude for all their show of support…
