Lara continued her recuperation off-stage once again this past week, but we appear to know where she was. The FB site ‘Lara Fabian in Ukrainian hearts’ published several photos of Lara at the Giarre shop in Sicily, at the links below:
www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=445580065572697&set=a.430106407120063.1073741865.374882332642471&type=1&theater

Several of Lara’s fan sites said these pictures were taken on April 10th, and one imagines Lara was likely visiting her mother’s or husband’s family. She looks relaxed…hopefully she won’t get too comfortable with life out of the limelight…
Arguing against that is the news that Lara continues to make plans for the future, for enough in advance that she assumes she will be once again able to perform. As Ismael Bonavita noted in her comment to the last news update, she is scheduled to sing on January 31, 2015 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York as part of another show for Igor Krutoi. Tickets, as Ismael pointed out, are available at:
www.barclayscenter.com/events/detail/igor-krutoi-gala-concert
As with Lara’s plans to travel to Moscow in November of 2014, her appearance is not guaranteed, though it is probably likely that if she sings in Moscow without any repercussions, she would appear here as well, two months later. Given the strong Russian contingent at her Carnegie Hall concert in Manhattan, and the fact that there is a sizable Russian population in Brooklyn (89,000 as of 2009, according to Wikipedia), this venue makes perfect sense for her.
The Barclay center is a basketball arena, though concerts have been held there as well. Lara would be sharing the stage with at least 8 other singers, plus Krutoi. Assuming the show lasts 3 hours at most (it starts at 7 PM), with a total of 10 performers, one could imagine Lara’s contribution could last some 20 minutes. The best seats in the house, up front near the stage, cost $1000 (!). If one is going primarily to see Lara, that’s $50/minute . One can compare this to her Carnegie Hall concert, in which to see Lara for some 100 minutes, the top ticket prices were about $140 (or $1.4/minute). [And the rest of this show is likely to be in Russian…]. These examples do overplay the comparison, as cheaper seats are available, but it is indicative of the organizers’ expectations given the Russian-speaking population available. It could be an opportunity for someone starved to see Lara – if she is capable of showing up. Again, as with all her other plans “à la rentrée”, there has been no word of this on Lara’s FB site.
We are at the one year anniversary of the release of ‘Le Secret’. Lara’s official FB page noted the occasion, and provided a link to the teaser that was released promoting the album, at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsCum8nvQFQ
Other sites also noted the date, as did some fans. Tegny Karen provided an anniversary video for it, at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9ewybbZIV8&feature=share
and, similarly, so did the Lara Fabian Voice of Passion site:
web.photodex.com/view/ca6w6bm4/?watch-ca6w6bm4
The Lara Fabian Montreal site provided a ‘birthday cake’ photo:
www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1410706185865714&set=a.1393812027555130.1073741830.100007790381762&type=1&theater
However, there was no release of the fan-contributed tour video – fans specifically asked about it on Lara’s site, and got no reply. Given that this would have been the perfect time to provide it if it were at all close to completion, one shouldn’t expect it any time soon.
Lara’s official FB site also noted that Lara is a candidate for the World Music Awards. Here’s the translation of their comment:
--------------------------------------------------
Already rewarded at the World Music Awards in the early 2000s, Lara was again nominated in two categories this year 2014 as:
World Best Female Artist: bit.ly/1i51TVS
World Best Live Act: vote.worldmusicawards.com/
For this ceremony the public votes will make the difference. By clicking on the links above you can vote and make vote those around you and tip the balance.

To cast a vote, all one has to do is enter one’s name and email address, then scroll down to see Lara’s name/picture, which is already one of the (many) possibilities (listed are most of the artists who released an album in 2013).
Another opportunity to honor Lara is being suggested by Geo Falcon. He is organizing a petition to have Lara once again be included in the Grévin wax museum in Paris. Here’s the translation of his petition, which is found at:
secure.avaaz.org/fr/petition/Musee_Grevin_de_Paris_Une_nouvelle_statue_de_cire_a_Paris_pour_Lara_Fabian/?nCPKPfb
------------------------------------------------------------------
Why this is important
We, fans of Lara Fabian, would like a new wax statue of one of the greatest [singers] of French song and of Belgian-Candienne origin, to be placed at the famous Grévin Museum in Paris.
Indeed, an old statue had been put into it in 1998 and, therefore, honored the singer. Lara had her statue like all the great ones of this world in this famous tourist place.
Today, it has been removed no longer resembling the star. And questioning the number of people interested to this day to see our star and who is not still put on a pedestal.
As a reminder, Lara Fabian has sold nearly 13 million albums worldwide and deserves this title, to be included in the museum.
I ask for your full understanding and support. I undertake to forward this petition to the right people.
Regards,
Geoffrey Falcon

There is then a link to provide your support. So far there are 124 signatures to this petition, with 500 being the goal.
Were this to happen, it would likely raise Lara’s (and fans’) spirits, but it’s hard to know how successful it could be. 500 signatures is not likely to overwhelm the museum, and Lara hasn’t exactly been at the top of the popularity charts in France these past 10 years. Also, one wonders why they really took it down in the first place; one can see a picture of Lara with the old statue, and she while does look somewhat different now, one would still know it is her. The MZ FB site pointed out an error in the petition – Lara is of Belgian-Italian origin, it is her nationality that is Belgian-Canadian. They also suggested that a representation based on the infamous ‘Gala’ photograph from last year would really draw visitors! You may remember Lara was also in the Grévin Wax Museum in Montreal – it’s probable that it is no longer on display there, either. But good luck to this – Lara can use all the help she can get.
Continuing our focus on Lara’s fan sites, as can be seen from the first links in this update, the Lara Fabian Ukrainian site is still quite active, despite the problems bedeviling their country. The site can be found at:

Now for the three ‘best of’ videos for this week:
J’ai besoin de parler: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvWfs1GJq5E
: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFU-ndIBj4s
J’ai douze ans :https://app.box.com/s/oq8jfxuon593iuo9ar03
J’ai zappe :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYRVLXqNFSQ
:https://app.box.com/s/twj13zvmone27d0qz1l1
For ‘J’ai besoin de parler’, two versions were picked. The first is the obvious choice due to the quality of the professional video, from the ‘TFL font leur show’ DVD. The other is from her performance in Moscow in June of 2009, the very beginning of her performing it regularly – it is somewhat more contemplative and also impassioned. The version with the best looking outfit, however, is from the Spiroudrome, at Charleroi 9-22-11 (https://app.box.com/s/6lyp63xjtmkd0iwcwke9).
For ‘J’ai douze ans’, the choice is from the version performed on the TV show ‘Quelque chose de nous de’; in this case live backup singers seemed to provide Lara with more energy than the hologram version, although clearly the video is sharper on the TLFM DVD (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1T4xrreZc4).
For ‘J’ai zappe’, I couldn’t resist including the two outstanding versions from Brussels, performed 15 years apart. Anybody like to comment on which one they prefer? An older performance can also be seen in the wonderful video from the Molson Centre (which could also have been the choice); app.box.com/s/2w9h873dv5nlajgbd5s0).
Lara has now been in (relative) seclusion for four months, and as she has no public plans until at least September, we probably can expect a similar situation for the next four. The discussions of this ailment indicated that the recuperation time is quite variable, but one year has often been mentioned. Lara is clearly hopeful that her need will be shorter; if true, then the future plans that she is making, especially those with Krutoi, will be real ones.
