Lara returned home from her vacation in Brittany, and almost immediately left a video message for fans on her FB site. Its purpose was to thank them for all their cards/messages of support, including those that showed where they had travelled to/from in order to see her concerts. It was endearing to see the montage provided by Nathalie Delhougne and Isabelle Grodent to which many fans contributed posted up on the wall behind her piano, and she made a point of emphasizing it. There is no doubt that she gains great sustenance from the fans’ wishes for her recovery, and their expressions of love; even though she knows they don’t know her personally, she seems to understand that they have been touched by her music and her character. One can see a version of this message with English and Spanish subtitles at:

Lara accompanied her video with the text implying she would see them “very soon”, and in the video concluded by saying she would ‘see you soon’. It’s hard to know how literally to take this expression; it’s unlikely that having been forced to cancel 6+ months of concerts, she would be able to resume public appearances in two months time. Presumably she was trying to keep the fans’ hopes alive, and assure them that she was o.k., although she didn’t really say that. She looked fine and at peace, better than the last time we saw her behind that piano, when she was cancelling her tour – but this was a more positive message. We’ll find out if anything in her situation really changes ‘soon’…
Likewise we don’t know what to make of the fact that at least some of the venues for her fall concerts in Germany are still selling tickets, despite the fact that there are no longer any listings on Lara’s official upcoming tour dates. It may be as a result of Lara’s expressed desire (hope) to resume her concert schedule after the summer, or it may just be optimism (or inertia) on their part.
Continuing this ‘future speculation’, fans are wondering when the ‘Le Secret’ concert composed of fan videos is going to be made available. One suggestion is in April, at the one year anniversary of the release of the album.
There have been several additional intriguing photos of Lara with the designer Bernard Depoorter :

Fashion model is one profession Lara is currently suited for, not requiring sound as a medium of expression .
Lara’s desire to keep in touch with fans may also be an attempt to counteract their inevitable drift away from her. ‘Le Secret’ has even departed the Belgian record charts. There was no other news of note this past week; again what activity is present on fan sites generally involves past pictures or videos of Lara being brought to the fore. Fortunately, there are many of these, as exemplified by our next set of ‘best of’ choices…

Deux ils deux elles: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtOsbIX3G1I
Dire: app.box.com/s/3v5z11f4scior8jqnh72
For ‘Desperate Housewife’ we are again sticking to the truly live performances (as opposed to lip-synching). This comes from the Perm complete show; another choice of note would be from Kiev (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn6lyQqDORI).
For ‘Deux ils deux elles’ there are a number of possibilities, but the one picked here in some sense is truest to the meaning of the song, given Lara’s participation with the audience. It comes from the Brussels show on September 21; another similar choice would have been from the show there the day before.
For ‘Dire’, we have a few TV performances available from the year 1993. All of them are good, this one is a little sharper and more ‘frontal’.
It does not escape attention that these last two videos are separated by 20 years in time. Despite that distance, they are connected in that they display the continuity of Lara’s beliefs. ‘Dire’, from her first album, is concerned with speaking honestly about what one feels; and of course ‘Deux ils, deux elles’ is about honest love being the highest ideal.
[One may wonder what qualifies a song to be included in this 'first go-round' of titles. If Lara wrote it, it qualifies. If she didn't write it, but has performed it regularly over the years, it is also included. That leaves out some of her more occasional, concentrated performances, like those for ETI or EWM; if there is a 'second go-round' - heaven forbid! - they'll be picked up then].
Presumably the coming week will be another one of treatment for Lara. We’ll see if there are any new efforts to engage fans.
