In this (of personal necessity) abbreviated interval for the News Update, Lara has still been on her break period. She did take the opportunity, as did so many others, to express her thoughts at the passing of Nelson Mandela. She put the following (translated) notice on her FB site:
---------------------------------------------------------
The world lost a great man…
Nelson Mandela, you are an example for all of us…you who sacrificed your liberty to save that of others…you who worked to make of this world, a better place….
We say often that hope makes men live…
But thanks to you, we understanding finally that some men, them alone, can also make hope live…
Thank you Mr. Mandela…the legacy of your eyes (look) will remain precious for humanity…Lara Fabian
--------------------------------------------------------------
and accompanying this statement was a picture, indeed, of his compassionate eyes/look

Returning to more local concerns, Lara put out a short video
www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=631157853592382&set=vb.201065806601591&type=2&theater
which says, “Dear everyone, I just wanted to make a short video and not just a picture or a word to tell you that I am delighted to see you again on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the south [of France]. I wanted to thank you for your patience, your kindness and compassion, we’ll find each other, and I will give everything, I kiss you, I love you”.
These are the dates that were moved by a few days to accommodate the three days on/eight days off rule for the health of her ears. Unfortunately, that did upset people’s plans, but probably not as much as the few absolute cancellations that were made necessary by the unavailability of rooms in a particular city (in combination, perhaps, with what her staff may have inferred to be a lack of interest). This has left some fans very unsatisfied, yet it’s not as if Lara has had much choice in the matter. Obviously she would have greatly preferred to follow the tour as originally planned.
Lara’s people do now feel, however, that they’ve gotten a handle on it – the staff indicated that all the concerts now scheduled on the tour through the end of May are going to be unchanged. This of course assumes her condition improves, or at least does not worsen. In June, however, there are currently nine concerts scheduled for an 11 day period – time will tell whether that type of schedule can be resumed by then. The suspicion is that they may not wait too long to decide - and then have to alter it at the last moment, thereby inciting the same sort of complaints they’re now experiencing.
The three concerts this week are in Marseille, Berziers and Toulose. Two of them featured interviews with Lara.
First, from Marseille, Lara is on the cover of ‘Limpact’, edition #25,
docs.limpact.fr/limpactest25/limpactest25/HTML/limpactest25.html
with the interview on pp.14,15; there was also a review of ‘Le Secret’ in a previous edition. Here’s the translation– note it took place prior to Lara’s health problems and the need to move the date of the concert, now scheduled for Monday…
-----------------------------------------------------------
LARA FABIAN
LE SECRET
The day her first album was released in France, I was a fan…and supreme happiness: venue in Toulon for her promo, no journalist has deigned to answer…except me. That meant I had Lara Fabian to myself for more than one hour!
This created a linkage, even if my editorial chief at the time had corrected her first name to be ‘Laura’!
Since then, our beautiful Italian-Belgian-Quebecoise has made the career that one knows with her splendid voice, acclaimed in the whole world. And even if, at one time, she has had some detractors, we do not really know why, imperturbable and serene, she went to offer herself to the countries of the East where she is an icon. It suffices to hear and see the CD/DVD “Mlle. Zhivago” the concert recorded in the Kremlin where she sings in French, in English, in Italian and in Russian and where the room standing, applauds her.
As far as her “Secret”, her last double albumn concept, I have said all that I thought in the No. 20 issue of Limpact [translated below].
The voice again on tour in France and our international Lara was well worth a portrait.
A portrait has had been repeatedly moved due to small problem of health.
But, courageous and loyal, we have made this interview!
“It is true – she confides – I have known better days but I especially didn’t want to give you a false promise, that is not my habit”.
Admitting that today there are few artists who would worry about a journalist of the provinces. It is therefore all to her honor and one can only thank her for her professionalism and her kindness.
THEN LARA, WE SPEAK OF THIS DOUBLE ALBUM “LE SECRET” OF WHICH I HAVE ALREADY SAID ALL THAT I THOUGHT OF IT. I THOUGHT IT A KIND OF MODERN ORATORIO, A ROCK OPERA WITH SOME BEAUTIFUL CLASSICAL MOMENTS…
That is very kind, thank you, but it is true that it is a disc with a beautiful dimension. I wanted that on listening to this disc, one experiences the whole story and even that one sees there some images. It is an experience mixed of sentiments, of roads of a life, for there is a lot of my life and I tell things that each and everyone can feel.
THEN, YOU IMPRESSED US ALREADY WITH THE SHOW OF MAGNIFICENT VIRTUAL DUETS WITH VERONIQUE SANSON, FRANCOISE HARDY, DALIDA AND SOME OTHERS…YOU IMPRESSED US AGAIN WITH THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE OF “MADEMOISELLE ZHIVAGO”. TELL US OF ITS GENESIS!
It is a meeting with a magnificent artist at the Operetta, the Olympia of Moscow: Igor Krutoy, one of the great Russian producers. There it is done very simply and very naturally…or almost for he came to see me to propose to me to make a disc with him as he would have made a proposition for diner! I admit that I hesitated a while. He made me listen to his songs, they moved me and I embarked with him on this adventure for he knew to understand my soul and his songs were vehicles of very strong emotions. It is a little like a cameo, a suite of musical stories, of remembrances of trips in this country which welcomed my very strongly.
IT SEEMS THAT ON THIS DISC YOU FOUND YOUR VOICE FROM THE BEGINNING, STILL SO IMPRESSIONISTIC.
It is thanks to him for I had so listened to the critics on my way of singing that I hadn’t dared to deliver the notes anymore. Igor gave me back the confidence and I could again sing like I felt it. It was a risk to take but also a little like a rebirth.
THE RELEASE OF THE CD/DVD HAD BEEN QUITE CONFIDENTIAL, WHY?
Because in the beginning it was meant only for the countries of the East. It was ‘my’ Russian story. But the French fans who knew of it wanted it at any price. Some of them have followed me for such a long time that I didn’t want to disappoint them. I therefore put it on sale on line on my site (larafabian.com).
YOU TURNED SOME CLIPS OF THE SONGS OF MADEMOISELLE ZHIVAGO”. DID YOU MAKE A FILM OR A DVD?
No, I had some problems with the director on them that I don’t want to expatiate. One can therefore see the clips only on the Internet.
THERE IS, THEREFORE, IN THIS BEAUTIFUL ALBUM, THE CD BUT ALSO A DVD OF THIS CONCERT IN THE KREMLIN IN MOSCOW WHICH SHOWS THE FERVOR OF THIS RUSSIAN PUBLIC IN YOUR REGARD…
Yes, it is incredible and moving. It was a very strong moment seeing the crowd, get up, cheer, cry...It is one of my most beautiful memories. It was absolutely very moving, a moment almost unreal.
YOU SANG THERE IN FRENCH, IN ENGLISH, IN ITALIAN AND IN RUSSIAN…
Yes, three are languages that I speak and that I sing and the last song in Russian, it was to thank them for the love that they carry for me.
SINCE ‘PERDERE L’AMORE’, SONG OF MASSIMO RANIERI, THAT I DISCOVERED ON YOUR FIRST ALBUM RELEASED IN FRANCE, I ADMIT TO YOU THAT I WAIT IMPATIENTLY FOR AN ENTIRE ALBUM IN ITALIAN.
Yes, it is something which tempts me and that I will perhaps do some day. While waiting, on the next album there will certainly be one or two songs in Italian.
IS IT THAT IN THE NEXT ALBUM THERE WILL ALSO BE SOME SONGS FROM MADEMOISELLE ZHIVAGO?
No, but we continue to work together, Igor and myself and there will therefore be new songs that we will have written together.
YOU ARE NOW ON TOUR AND ARE GOING TO PASS BY US SOON [it was to be November 7 that had been the Marseille show, since moved…]
There will well be all the songs that have marked my career with a staging whose thread is happiness refound and the strongest links that I have with my public.
WE SAW YOU ON TF1 IN A NEW ROLE: JUROR IN THE EMISSION “THE BEST”. HOW DID YOU COME TO THIS PROJECT?
Quite naturally. The channel proposed to me to be on the jury and I accepted because, for one time on television, I wasn’t the star of the program. I was a spectator and I wasn’t judged! It is, from time to time, a very comfortable position, very relaxing, and very playful, and what’s more, very amusing! And if they ask me again, I will return!
DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TIMES WE SAW YOU SAY “WOUAOU”
(She laughs). No, but it must have been enormous for truly, I was impressed and admiring of discovering such talents. I must say that I am a very good audience.
IN 2003, YOU HAD MADE AN APPEARANCE IN A MAGNIFICENT AMERICAN MUSICAL COMEDY OF IRWIN WINKLER ON THE LIFE OF COLE PORTER “DE-LOVELY”. WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO A FILM AGAIN?
I would like it a lot, I have always had a desire and perhaps that is going to be realized soon. Among the propositions that I’ve received, there is one that would make me a director and I would like that to materialize. But…we’ll talk about it in due time.
--------------------------------------------
And here’s the (translated) review:
--------------------------------------------------------
A stylish white and blue box, sober, comprising two CDs of seventeen songs that form a magnificent whole. Firstly the haunting voice of Lara, which is a miracle of beauty, restraint and emotion. At times it becomes equal to Barbra Streisand. And the songs that speak of love, of peace, of difference, of tolerance, of hope , but also of today’s dramas, stories of life ... It's almost a concept disc for on listening to these melodies, which are at times of a wild originality and sometimes seem classical scores, enveloped by a beautiful orchestration, one follows a history made of short stories. This is not of the (pop) variety (genre), it is a modern opera, a mystical work, both sublime and almost subliminal. It is a record to listen to in the most profound silence, as it is beautiful and says so much. Each song is a film sequence which could be an interior road movie.
Lara did not choose the easy (way) but offers us a strong work, accomplished, perhaps the most beautiful that she has recorded.
-----------------------------------------------------
And then the (translated) interview from Toulose, now cognizant of the health problems, from www.ladepeche.fr/article/2013/12/07/1770065-est-artistes-proner-tolerance-ouverture.html
---------------------------------------------------
After her serious accident in the ear, faithful to the promise she made to her audience, Lara Fabian continues her tour. She'll be at the Zenith in Toulouse next Wednesday. More than 2000 people bought tickets for the two shows Lara Fabian scheduled for early November in Barriere casino... The cancellation of these commitments was desperate for fans, invited to visit the Zenith on Wednesday, December 11.
LD: How are you after hearing the accident you suffered? How goes it?
LF: I am patient. Anyway I have no choice! It will not heal immediately. I'll have a year. I can sing a certain period of time, but if I go further without intermediate rest, I return to the danger zone. I have to stay positive, otherwise I might fall into depression. A condition that may interfere with healing.
LD: Your album is called "Le Secret" (The Secret). What is the secret?
LF: It is found in happiness. The album tells the story of a person who can no longer be affected by things that hurt in your life: a shattered childhood, betrayal, eating disorders ... This is the way of the person who makes the choice of strength and forgiveness to find serenity and happiness, of finally loving herself.
LD: This is a very autobiographical ... very personal album
LF: Yes, but at the same time living painful moments in life course is inevitable and universal. I'm speaking for myself, but I think it also speaks of many beings on this earth.
LD: What brings you to the collaboration with the American composer Janey Clewer?
LF: This is a woman whose subtlety is a truly exceptional musical dimension, a songwriter whose musicianship has allowed me to approach topics that I could never approach without being used in music as in "Amourexique."
LD: "Deux ils, deux elles" shows that your commitment to the "law of love for all" is even stronger...
LF: I've discussed this issue with my '97 song "La différence". The message I want to convey is that of tolerance. Homosexuality remains a taboo. We advance the ball in this area. It is our duty, we artists convey messages advocating tolerance and openness.
LD: Do you sing in a few days, at Carnegie Hall in New York? A mild stress before this big premiere?
LF: Certainly that night, I will feel very afraid, because I see the same experience with this part of a dream that becomes reality.
LD: You sang in Belarus even though the cancellation in Uzbekistan?
LF: I sang in Belarus, in front of 4,500 people, and I talked about human rights. There is a big difference between politics and the people who suffer for it. It is for them that I sing.
LD: Do you want to say something to the audience of Toulouse LF:
LF: Thank them for waiting for me.

Responding to the sale of dolls for Unicef, Lara left a picture on her Instagram site (again showing the bag she auctioned),
with her (translated) message: “yesterday evening the sale of bids for Unicef…Some thousands of children saved thanks to you…Thank you for all your generosity…Lov…”
‘Le Secret’ has dropped just a little bit more, down to #132 in France (which is still better than it was after 12 weeks following the first release in April….). In Belgium it’s fallen to 59th place.
This coming week Lara will have those three concerts, and then she’s off until after Christmas, at Carnegie Hall. Let’s hope these all go well, and so she can approach Christmas with a happy heart!
