Lara’s past, present and future were all on display last week, as she got into full swing following the summer lull. We’ll start with the ‘past’, although it was the most recent occurrence. Her ‘Best of’ concert took place at Coudekerque-Branche in Flanders, northern France, on Sunday, at the "Fête de la Nature et de la Flandre". It was the last performance she will do of that particular show. Lara had said before-hand that it would be bittersweet, saying good-bye to the musicians with whom she had bonded during their numerous concerts together over the last year (it’s been said that there were some 80 shows, performed mainly in Eastern Europe and Russia). It was also the first time she had ever given it in France.
As for the concert itself, numerous videos are available on youtube, some of good quality. It can be seen that it took place outdoors, and it looked cold – Lara sang wearing a jacket, scarf, jeans and sneakers. The set list consisted of her usual past ‘hits’ with some Mlle. Zhivago songs thrown in (again an anomaly for France). For the record, the songs (in order, as reported by ‘Lara Fabian est ton autre’) were: "J'y crois encore", "La différence", Intro piano "Ce qu'il reste..." , "I Guess I Loved You", "Soleil Soleil", "Theme from Mahogany", "Immortelle", "Desperate Housewife", "Russian Fairy Tale", "Ever ever land", "Je t'aime" , "Alfonsina Y El Mar", "Mademoiselle Hyde", "Demain n'existe pas", "Pas sans toi" and "Je suis malade"
It was a free concert, and the field was packed – even Lara appeared surprised at the turnout. Thus she was in good spirits and very good voice, although “Adagio” was not performed at the end. A representative photo of Lara (as well as some others) can be found at:

and with the musicians (Giora Linenberg, Ron and Rami):

As for the ‘present’, the latest showing of ‘The Best’ took place last Friday, the seventh episode. It maintained its audience, 4.1 million, despite the French soccer team playing on another channel shortly before. Some fans actually thought it was the best show, in terms of quality and diversity.
Again, it has not yet shown up on its customary (out of country) sites, but presumably it will later this week. And while it’s also still not there yet, all the shows so far have appeared on NABBOX, available at:

(You do have to register for that site).
As for the ‘future’, on Saturday Lara filmed the new video for ‘Danse’, the second single from ‘Le Secret’. She provided a short video where she introduced some of those involved:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_5qWXrX0g0&feature=youtu.be
and also put some pictures of it on her Instagram site, e.g.,
‘Pitiblog’ had an article (http://www.ptitblog.net/Lara-Fabian/lara-fabian-premieres-images-du-clip-danse_art9881.html) in which they noted that Lara had wanted to pursue ballet, but had been discouraged by her early experiences in school. Some might argue that her choice of this as the second single was to give her the opportunity to ‘right that wrong’ by dancing in the video. Some fans thought that she will probably be the dance teacher in the clip, which should appear shortly.
Hopefully, the single – and upcoming tour – will revive the album, for it has now fallen off the French charts after 20 weeks (it dropped two places to #38 in Belgium). So far people have not heard this second single on the radio – not even on RFM which is the radio partner for the album and the tour. Maybe the video will help…
In two days, Lara begins her tour for ‘Le secret’, which will continue for some nine months. The announcement that has been sent to the various locales reads (in translation):
----------------------------------------
Lara Fabain leaves on tour and presents to us ‘Le Secret’, her new album exclusively composed of unreleased tracks.
An hour thirty minutes of uninterrupted music, titles like so many stories that are linked together without ever getting tangled, which assemble gently without resembling one another, but make up a single personality ....
This personality, sometimes complex, always rich is one that reveals to us Lara Fabian, unvarnished, with all the strength and foresight, both modest and laid bare.
Conceived and recorded between Canada and Belgium, ‘Le Secret’ marks the return of Lara Fabian to the sources of her most intimate identity, one that refuses to take the marked path on which we could sometimes wait. Once again, Lara is in agreement with herself ... And with her audience, even if it continues to surprise us.
For, if this tour's primary mission is to unveil for us ‘Le Secret’, Lara also thinks of her most loyal public, in repeating some of her greatest songs, today indispensable, those that we so loved to the point of taking them, in heart and by heart, each time we hear them.
-----------------------------------------
We get the sense that Lara will try to reproduce the ‘all-encompassing’ effect that the album has by repeating the ‘no breaks’ approach that the album had, with the additional inclusion of some old songs. Lara was on RTBF radio show ‘Vivacity’ on Sunday, and when asked, ‘since she was now married to a musician, whether her upcoming show would feature activities of that sort’, Lara replied that there would be interesting visuals. Presumably not the holograms from the past tour, without Gerard to manage them…
The tour begins in Namur, Belgium tomorrow and Thursday, moving to Liege, Belgium on the 14th and 15th. After four more shows in Belgium it then moves to France in October. Both are countries where ‘Le Secret’ has already been officially released. We will see whether it gets released in the other countries where she has shows planned (Russia, Eastern Europe, U.S., Canada) before the events occur (end of November at the earliest); one wonders how often artists give performances revolving around records that are not available in that country, even digitally? We’ll also quickly be able to assess what videos can be recorded by the audience, and whether ‘Evergig’ will start producing complete shows from them; they indicated previously that they would be doing that for a number of her upcoming performances, as occurred for her Paris showcase. All-in-all, one hopes this concert tour will prove successful, artistically and financially; it certainly will be providing fodder for News Updates !
Also next week will be the finale of ‘The Best’. This series of events, from last week to the next, marks for Lara the transition from summer to fall, from her past to her future. May it be a bountiful one!
