We are now at this year’s nadir for Lara re: her public appearances. For French performers it usually occurs in August, but Lara will be back in the public eye starting Friday with the first airing of ‘The Best’, the weekly talent show on TF1. Much has been written about this in previous weeks, but for more info, see:

It will be interesting to watch Lara’s take on the performers and her interactions with the other judges. With her intelligence and volubility she should bring added life to the program. Her very presence has also brought some controversy, as expected; on the extreme ends, some of the public is saying (in on-line comments to the station) that they will only be watching the show because Lara is on it, while others write that’s the reason they won’t watch it! However, the rule in show business is: controversy brings an audience. So we’ll see … . It will be appearing every Friday and should last up to the time that Lara begins her fall concert schedule in September. TV publications are certainly not shying away from featuring Lara, as can be seen by the cover of the latest TELE magazine:

While all the shows were taped in advance, Lara herself will be in Latvia this weekend for the latest ‘New Wave’ festival run by Igor Krutoi. A promo for it can be seen at:

In a recent interview Krutoi indicated that his latest album with Lara was finished. Whether that was meant literally – the CD recorded, etc. – or just conceptually, presumably Lara will have a chance to interact with him concerning anything that might still be needed. Its release might not be until 2014, for Lara will have no chance before then to promote it in the ‘countries to the east’, which is where it will likely live. The concerts she is scheduled to give there later this year (October and November in Russia and Belarus) are part of ‘Le Secret’ tour.
While we’re on the subject, although Lara’s Russian career still seems to have a future, the Russian fan website apparently does not – as reported in the Russian forum, the site at lara-fabian.ru had a notice that thanked fans for being with them for four years, and it is now closed. A beautiful site, it was once thought of as the model for Lara’s new URL. Nothing lasts forever…which then leads to the next item…
Not only is this the lowest point for Lara in terms of public appearances, but that’s true for ‘Le Secret’ album sales as well, at least in terms of its listing on the French charts. Lara has fallen to 200th position, which is as low as the on-line chart goes. [It is #32 in Belgium]. By this time next week, it may already be off the French charts, which will mean it spent 13 weeks on it. Here’s how that compares with her other album releases: TLFM : 46 weeks; Un Regard Neuf :15 weeks; Neuf: 85 weeks; A Wonderful Life: 17 weeks; En toute Intimite: 49 weeks; Nue: 84 weeks; Lara Fabian – English : 16 weeks; Live: 47 weeks; Carpe Diem: 35 weeks; Pure: 111 weeks; [Lara Fabian – French, the first album, was released primarily in Canada, and Mademoiselle Zhivago had no general release in France]. In other words, compared to all her previous releases in France, in terms of duration on the charts, this is the worst.
One would guess that would be a concern to Lara and her people, to put it mildly, but the complete story hasn’t been written. There is plenty of precedence for albums ‘re-appearing’ when some new publicity is generated (although that hasn’t been the case for her previous releases). It is certainly possible that her visibility on ‘The Best’, the appearance of a new single (for which Lara’s FB site is once again asking fans for their choice, after having gone through that exercise previously), and her fall concert tour will generate sufficient publicity to give it additional life. As we know, Lara had been ‘away’ from the pubic eye in France for a few years, which was not the case previously, and so she has had to swim upstream. There have been plenty of TV appearances, but as noted previously, the album, outside of the topical “Deux ils, deux elles”, was promoted in name only – nobody ever got to hear the other wonderful music on it. A number of fans think it might be her best album ever – ironic given the chart duration numbers. If it doesn’t come back, Lara better hope that her concerts are well-attended, for without record company backing, she is playing with her own money with ‘Le Secret’.
In other news, some nice photos have become available of Lara at the ‘Global Gala Gift benefit in Paris that took place last May 13th. They can be seen at:

And Lara will also be performing at another Global Gala Gift benefit, this time in Marbella on August 4th. In their words, “The Global Gift Gala is a unique international fundraising gala initiative. This platform brings together the worlds of Business, Celebrity and Philanthropy to raise funds and awareness. We unite forces to create a substantial difference in the lives of countless children and women worldwide.”
Next week is Lara’s ‘la rentree’, with her first appearance on ‘The Best’, as well as (hopefully) some videos from Latvia.
