The big news this week, at least for immediate consumption, was the release of the second ‘official’ video of “Deux ils, deux elles”, this one featuring the ‘participants’ close up. It’s available at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQitQINuZ-0
A link to it can also be found on Lara’s new youtube channel, www.youtube.com/user/larafabianoff . The channel presumably will feature many of the official videos, being added slowly, as well as some from her FB site.
Her appearance on “Les Annees Bonheur” aired, featuring a nice presentation of ‘La Difference’, available along with some conversation at:
www.dailymotion.com/video/x10pna1_lara-fabian-la-difference-les-annees-bonheur-08-06-13_music#.UbccY5VK5UQ
There’s also a nice picture, at:

There has been no indication that she also sang “Deux ils, deux elles” as well on that program, as originally suggested – maybe that would have been overkill. For those in France, the full show can be seen at: playtv.fr/television/france-2/
Lara was also busy this week with the filming of ‘The Best (artist)’, the contestant reality singing show for TF1 on which she’s a judge. It will be broadcast next fall. She’s put several nice photos from it on her FB site:

It was noted last week that Lara would be appearing at the ‘Generation M Live’ homage to Jean-Jaques Goldman this coming June 15th. Nicolaus Boucaud, on various websites, says Lara will not be there, nor at the festival of music on June 21st, apparently due to the filming of ‘The Best’. Even if true, that doesn’t necessarily mean a taped presentation will not be provided, depending on the format. She is still listed on the ‘Generation M’ website (http://www.programme-tv.net/programme/divertissement/4206167-generation-m6-live/)
A few videos have appeared from Lara’s performance in Baku last week. She did a great job singing ‘Je t’aime’ in close to her old manner, available at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz-61qrPIIw
It’s been suggested that it resembled the version presented at Gorbachev’s 80th birthday party in London. The full set list of her program featured:
Demain n'existe pas; Mademoiselle Hyde; Desperate Housewife; Llora;
Russian Fairy Tale; I Guess I Loved You; Je suis malade; (uncertain);
Adagio by Igor Krutoy on the piano; Adagio; Je t'aime; Lyubov', Pohozhaya Na Son (whose video is available at: www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=LvGbuoAnxNk).
Note it is heavy on songs from Mlle. Zhivago, whose CD is available there, and nothing from Le Secret, which apparently is not. Presumably by later this year, when she returns to Russia as part of ‘Le Secret’ tour, the set list will be quite different.
As noted last week, Lara recorded a program for radioclassique.fr, and the host Olivier Bellamy has some nice words about her in his blog at: blog.radioclassique.fr/olivierbellamy/2013/06/02/lara-fabian-fleur-des-chants/

Curiously, Lara Fabian became the scapegoat in France of a small community of journalists, comedians and righters of wrongs seeking a bone to gnaw. So she effectuates a brilliant international career, some consider it a pure product of marketing, others accuse her of yelling, in short no one lets anything pass. Why so much hate? I confess, for my part, to have taken a certain pleasure in listening to her latest album, better sung and produced than a lot of things in fashion brought to bare here or there. And I met a sensitive person, rather cultivated and very friendly. She arrived on time (I do not say the same of some television stars) and confided naturally, that an unprofessional technician in another place had caused, a few hours earlier, a violent assault on the eardrums due to unrestrained headphones, which required urgent medical examination. Despite this, she wanted to honor her coming to Passion Classic, despite the pain and anguish. Hats off and thank you madam!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lara should paste that up on her bulletin board, to look at whenever she feels put upon, and realize that intelligent people understand. This also explains why Lara cancelled her scheduled appearance on Europe 1, where the incident presumably took place. At the time it was said on account of health.
Lara continues to appear on various shows, and while she discusses “Le Secret”, the French public never really gets to hear anything from the album, outside of ‘Deux ils, deux elles’. Perhaps not coincidentally, the album dropped 33 places, to #55 overall (#38, down from #19 in physical CDs) on the French charts last week. At this rate it will be hard pressed to get even gold record status before the summer vacation sets in, though it will most assuredly pass that level during her subsequent tour; it’s currently at 41,600 sales. In Belgium it is #10, down two spots, and in Switzerland it has dropped to #75. If you remember, the original reviews, while wildly enthusiastic concerning the content, also included the comment that the reviewers were not sure how commercial it would prove to be. Apparently Lara, perhaps unconsciously, thinks that herself, which is why she is not putting more of the music in front of the public. She has said she considers the experience to be an integral one achieved by listening to the whole album, rather than ‘hits’ to be paraded before the public individually. That does seem to be true, but without these ‘leaders’, she is going to have a hard time convincing the public of its quality. In this case, ‘hearing is believing’, and she doesn’t have many opportunities left to publicize it before the summer malaise. The (first) video that has been publicized for ‘Deux ils, deux elles’ has 500,000 hits on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D47lVYOSNwo).
It is now part way through June, and there’s been no indication of a “Mlle. Zhivago” DVD. The pressure behind the whole project has been greatly diminished by the release of most of the videos, but fans would still like to see the finished product with the ending that was supposed to unite all the stories. Sonia Nogués on the MZ FB site wrote that she asked the Russian fan site about it, and was told that nothing was anticipated (by them, at least). Alan Badoev has not addressed the subject on Twitter, though no one seems to have asked recently.
Lara sent a ‘happy birthday video’, to King Albert II of Belgium, that can be seen at:
www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=507137586006577&set=vb.166959643357708&type=2&theater
(The fact that this made the Update implies we’re approaching the slow season ).
And indeed we are. We will see if Lara participates in events announced for her this coming week, but, regardless, we can expect fewer appearances during the next few months. Or so it would seem, but this even-more-dedicated version of Lara may have some surprises in store!
