The potentially momentous month of April has finally arrived, the month when two of Lara’s long-term, possibly perception-changing projects will finally see the light of day. In preparation for the release of her new album, Lara was on three TV programs, but the undeniable highlight musically was Lara’s appearance on ‘Simplement pour un soir’. And the highlight of that was her virtual ‘duet’ with Frank Sinatra of ‘New York, New York’. One imagines that this amazing performance which features superb singing by both ‘participants’ will rank up with her very best videos! It is readily available on youtube. Interestingly, Gerard Pullicino was responsible for the technology used, so clearly they are still working together (he is actually the director for this show). It also featured a duet with Vincent Niclo of ‘La Quete’. She also participated in an homage to Serge Lama with a short version of the song ‘D’Aventures en Aventures’. And she got a chance to ‘present’ ‘Deux ils, duex elles’. The best video of all this was provided by the Lara Fabian Brazil site at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOtszJHo40w
On ‘Les Enfants de la Tele', Lara’s emotionality was the subject of ‘light-hearted’ scrutiny; to me it was somewhat celebratory and appreciative, along with an overtone of mockery. Lara’s response was her usual one, laughing and going along, but in an interview recently she admitted that while she laughs, she is hurt by it when it’s carried too far. A somewhat expurgated video of Lara’s contributions to the show has been provided by Claire Evelyne Dauge at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H8X0d_84CA
(To see an unexpergated segment, go to www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3dGQOSgctw).
Finally, Lara was on her last chapter of ‘The Voice’. Lara’s comment from last week that she had been asked to be a coach (not just a helper) on the show, and turned it down due to lack of time, has been getting some play in the press. On this edition, two of the participants (Julien and Benjamin), sang ‘La Quete’, and it brought tears to her eyes (so 'La Quete' was coincidentally featured in two shows). Photos and video are collected on the Lara Fabian Brazil site at:
www.larafabianbrasil.com.br/2013/03/lara-fabian-no-voice-da-franca-30032013.html
Less than two weeks now before the official release of Le Secret, and Lara’s two showcase introductions. Information has been provided on obtaining tickets for the shows on her FB site. They go on sale on April 4th at www.facebook.com/venteprivee?group_id=0, available from France and Belgium.
As for the other big item, the Mlle. Zhivago film, things are moving forward. There were several media outlets in which Alan Badoev explained more about the movie. First he was interviewed in the press; here is a ‘google’ translation:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Mademoiselle Zhivago" - a joint project of Ukrainian director, singer Lara Fabian and composer Igor Krutoy - can be seen on the Internet: the authors have decided to put their work in the "World Wide Web"
The hottest music video director Alan Ukrainian Badoev announced that the long-suffering musical project "Mademoiselle Zhivago" will be available for viewers to see. Work on the project started in the spring of 2010. To the music of composer Igor Krutoy the director created nine short stories, in which the famous Lara Fabian appeared in different images. This project with a budget of two and a half million dollars promised to be the loudest musical premiere. However, after the private view Lara Fabian said: "None of this work can be shown" and decided to publish a book with a DVD-application. "I do not know how to understand my dear Lara Fabian, this project is the most awaited by her fans - wrote Alan Badoev. - And no book can replace "Zhivago". So as decided by the singer, author and leading lady ... "The project was put on" shelf ". Now the fillm will be. And its creators have finally found common ground and decided to show his creation to the audience.
- Alan, after the project is completed long ago. It was hard work?
- As the three were working on a project of creative person: Igor Krutoy, Lara Fabian and I - all of us emerged with a vision and a desire to make a difference. I as a director responsible for an image that blends seamlessly with the songs performed by Igor and Lara Fabian. I admit, we were not always decided on the director's edits. We have quite a long way behind lapping each other, there was confusion, had to defend their ideas. I think the project turned out pretty bold. I'm trying to change the term "video" as such. This seemingly frivolous genre needed to have weight. I believe that even a small movie can tell the fate of man. I want people to not just listen to music, looking at the bright picture, and in a short time to understand something more. It is much easier to watch a video than a two-hour movie.
- What's in this movie that Lara Fabian did not like?
- The display image does not match her inner world. Lara - a great singer and a very positive person. This, it appears in most of her songs and videos. In this way she wanted to stay. I offered her to play multiple roles, including heavy and tragic. After watching Lara said: "It's too dark a world." I did not decorate the picture. In the novels we talked about the plight of women, mothers in the war, during the genocide. In the work there were acts of terrorism. I believe that through the pain, we still come to faith, love, and truth. Love wins and becomes the main symbol of the nine-part project.
* Lara Fabian and Igor Krutoy Alan Badoev – it was hard work on the project "Mademoiselle Zhivago", because each of them had their own ideas, which they had to defend.
- But in this you are not convinced by the main character [i.e., Lara]?
- After watching the film in the audience, with tears in her eyes, she was in a depressed state. This really scared Lara. "Mademoiselle Zhivago" was postponed. And now, when the passions have subsided, we have solved all the problems.
- On set, there also arose a contradiction?
- Nothing like that happened. The script and stories Lara argued before the shooting, looking through all the shots and was pleased. Sometimes, after touching scenes, even crying. She liked everything. But seeing the finished product, she suddenly changed his mind. I think that a woman, especially such an unusual one as Lara Fabian, has the right to whim. I think the singer just got scared, thought that it was a bad world. I hope I convinced her through voice, lyrics, multifaceted images to tell people a little more than they used to be.
- How about your creative conflict did Igor Krutoy react? He's not only a composer, but also a film producer?
- Igor does not like controversy. He is a diplomatic person, but at the same time commanding. He said, "Seek compromise." And we found it. At the same time, we remain friends. I'm glad I finally see a joint work for the audience. First, we present the work in Kiev, then in Moscow.
- In Europe, as you said earlier?
- We decided to put our work on the Internet for free access to the public. Everyone who wants to anywhere in the world can watch "Mademoiselle Zhivago" on social networks, upload stories on phones. That is such a gift. This is done for the first time.
- Very expensive gift!
- For this give a bow to Igor Krutoy. He is a very brave man, not afraid to experiment and invest in creativity. The idea to present our project to the network overall. Review will be seen what effect our work has made on the viewer. "Mademoiselle Zhivago" - a non-profit project.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Very informative – and the first time we heard what Igor’s stance was during the confrontation. Comical how Badoev refers to Lara’s getting scared by the film as a ‘whim’ – I’m sure she doesn’t feel that way (and hopefully she hasn’t seen this article). A very expensive gift indeed – 2.5 million dollar investment being shown for free on the web. Perhaps Krutoy is paying Universal Music France (whom it was reported funded it) that amount of money.
Then during this past week, Badoev exhibited to the Ukrainian press one of the stories, “Lullaby”, featuring the song “Lou”. An article discussing the event, with numerous pictures, is available (as posted on the Lara Fabian Is Here FB site ) at
mediananny.com/reportazhi/2298981/9_zhizneij__Mademuazel_ZHivago___ili_novaia_zhizn_Alana_Badoeva.
Here are the essential elements mentioned:
**It will be shown on the ‘big screen’ only at these events
**Lara failed to persuade him to give up the “seamy side” of the movie
**”I am very proud of this project; I’ve not done anything more frank”
** So, nine stories "Mademoiselle Zhivago".
**The first story. Fallen woman. It is about a prostitute. [Toccami]
**Second Story. Anna Karenina. Clear about what they mean. "We are responsible attitude to prop - says Badoev. - I asked to make 10 types of road dust. After all, every dust on the screen in different flies under the wheels of the carriage. " [Desperate Housewife]
**The history of the third. Lullaby. Auschwitz, blood, dirt and tears. [Lou]
**The history of the fourth. Violence in the family. She invented herself Fabian. [Llora]
**The history of the fifth. Topic - morphine, vampires as main characters, the full extravaganza. [Mademoiselle Hyde]
**History of the sixth. Islamic terrorists are taking people hostage in a theater. Among the hostages - a pregnant woman who is about to give birth. And yet in labor. During filming Badoev did not warn the extras they would shoot in the hall. Therefore, when the masked men appeared in the audience it started a real panic. And for a long time the crowd sulked at the director. [According to the 'Lara Fabian est ton autre' site, this would be ‘Mama moya’]
**The history of the seventh. Fragility. Once again, war, car bombings, again a woman in labor in the frame. [Demain n’existe pas]
**History of the eighth. Mr. President. Children playing. Moreover, the weapon is only boys who hunt on girls. Finishing off the wounded butts. Badoev: "I tried to call the children on this aggression. I think it will. " [Mr. President]
**History of the ninth. Winter bouquet. The shooting took place in Lviv. Starring - Max Barsky and Lara Fabian. [Russian Fairy Tale]
**Why was ‘Lullaby’ the clip shown to the press?
- It began with a lullaby entire project - said Alan. - Igor sent me the music of Lara Fabian. I spent a day listening to the song. I saw - and in my arms ashes. Why ashes? Because the concentration camp! And then the idea of a lullaby of a movie.
** And all this will be in the public domain ...
- This film is waiting for three years. We want to meet the expectations and give ease, accessibility, which we will do.
**Commercial success is not at the head of the corner?
- It is important for people to see. For Ukraine, the most important thing. After the events we will publish a movie into a worldwide network of iTunes.
** Why spend money on a superexpensive project that will not pay a tenth of nested finance? Response from each of its three founders. To Krutoi this huge promotion: the whole world will hear the music he wrote for Fabian. Lara will be seen in a new way - not a saccharine diva in a dress, but a dramatic actress. For Badoev "Mademoiselle Zhivago" - the ability to enter the western market. And people understand that in videos Badoev has changed something. And that the Ukraine is a place to come to shoot the best quality videos.
**We will find out whether it was ‘worth all the powder’ to shoot it…
If they are really going to make an effort to publicize this world-wide via iTunes, it could be a really big deal! [In contrast, ‘Le Secret’ will probably not be available world-wide that way, although it can already be pre-ordered in some markets, e.g., France, and in Belgium at itunes.apple.com/be/album/le-secret/id626055495]. Note that two of the songs, 'Mr. President' and 'Mama' were not on the MZ album released in France.
Finally, as reported previously, the official premiere before a select audience will be on April 5th in Kiev, followed by a showing in Moscow on the 6th. Lara and Igor will be going to the Ukraine (and probably to Moscow) to join Badoev for these presentations. Badoev left a message two days ago that read:
-----------------------------------------------------
"UNIQUE CHANCE ! You can get an opportunity to attend the premiere of the musical project "Mademoiselle Zhivago", which will take place at the cinema "Ukraine" on April 5. Together with the creators of the project - Igor Krutoy, Lara Fabian and Alan Badoev - you may be the first one to see all 9 novellas included in this project, which has no precedent in the Eastern Europe.
There will be several lucky winners! In order to take part in the contest, you need to share the message on your wall until 3 PM on April 3. Then the programme "RANDOM" will select the winners. Good luck, everyone!"
------------------------------------------------------
A picture of the cover of the invitation to the premiere is available at
By this time next week we should have gotten some reactions. Indications were that after these events it would be made available on the internet – and now we know it will be free and accessible everywhere via iTunes. Badoev in his press conference on 3/29 said that it will be available in two weeks (i.e., around the time of the new album’s release…coincidental? How about that for making a big, joint, splash!). It will be interesting to learn how long the movie is, as Badoev’s comments implied it was short.
In a complete non-sequitor, there is an informative interview in English with Rick Allison, with the part concerning Lara starting on page 4 as given, available at:
www.larevista.ro/rick-allison-there-are-no-secrets-for-writing-a-good-song-its-a-way-of-living/4/
As we heard in the past, he would be very willing to work with Lara again, although his ‘place’ seems to have been taken by Janey Clewer and Igor Krutoy.
This coming week Lara will be on "Bienvenue Chez Cauet" (NRJ12) – TV) tomorrow – she just recorded it today, photos available at www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=492436310804000&set=a.492416717472626.1073741865.103390503041918&type=1&theater. The ‘Cauet’ programs are always fun/deflating, in the same manner as ‘Les Enfants de la Tele’. Also we may expect the video of ‘Deux ils, deux elles’ to appear shortly. But primarily she will be involved in her trip to the Ukraine and Russia for the film premiere. Her TV shows in France have been promoted on her FB site; we’ll see whether she mentions her appearance at the premiere. Her minimal comments so far suggests she is still somewhat conflicted over the movie’s violence. If the audience/press reaction is positive, it may make a difference. And with the worldwide distribution of the film, it is bound to come up as she promotes the new album, so she better come to terms with it, if she hasn't already.
