The big news for the week of course was the filming of the DVD at Forest National, but before that…
Lara finished the Belgian part of her TLFM tour, with three concerts. Her show in Charleroi on March 3rd was her second trip to this locale, the first taking place back in the fall. In comparison to that one, the ambiance here was described as quite sedate, with little ‘fire’ except for the sing-along on ‘Humana’. Lara herself seemed to be conserving her voice for the Forrest National event, as once again the ‘dessins animee’ medley was dropped; still the show lasted about 2 hours. Lara was in fine vocal form, once more drawing rave reviews for ‘Adagio’ at the end. A “Belga” TV news program featured interviews with people leaving the show, and all gave Lara very high marks.
Then it was on to Liege, on the 6th, and here the situation was markedly different. The atmosphere was excellent, reportedly much better than in her previous trip there in September, with an excited crowd who joined in on many songs. The fans even wore luminescent bracelets to surprise Lara. Again she appeared to be conserving her voice (no ‘dessins animee’ medley, and several other songs were missing), and furthermore she had a slight sore throat. Nevertheless, she received great praise from just about everyone reporting. Some excellent photos of the concert by ‘adorlara’ are available on p.15 of the thread on the official site, while videos from both of these concerts are available on the web.
And finally to the all-important show last night at the Forest National in Brussels, filmed for the DVD. Lara’s people came up with an interesting idea. Here (in translation) was the message Nathalie placed on the official site on March 4th:

Not only would this help fill the house a bit more, it would ensure 100 enthusiastic fans! It turns out, that would not be a problem…
After all the shows Lara has done, this was in some sense the one that ‘counted’, to be memorialized on the DVD. And she felt the pressure – her father told some fans that she didn’t sleep the night before. At the beginning of the concert, Lara reportedly appeared a bit tense. But that seemed to pass, engulfed by the super ambiance of the audience, who seemed to be extra-hyped by the knowledge of the show’s importance. In fact, many fans thought the audience was too fiery, with some screaming out “Je t’aime” in the middle of soft ballads, seemingly interrupting the mood. But the crowd energized Lara, who was in fine vocal form, if a little conservative on the high notes. More of the fans ‘surprises’ were there, such as rising with signs expressing their thanks to her (not really a surprise anymore, and in this case, mis-timed toward the beginning of “Wind Beneath my Wings’, so that it threw Lara off kilter). However, it got the message across, and Lara has said that she never gets tired of it.
As expected, this was the full program (except for ‘Babacar’) with the ‘dessins animee’ medley included. All the elements reported previously were here as well: the complaints that Lara was somewhat static, not moving very much because of the demands of the computer program; the crowd joining in enthusiastically on all the old songs, especially ‘Humana’; the amazing performance of Adagio at the end; and throughout, Lara visibly moved by the emotional response of the audience to her.
The DVD therefore will likely be representative of this tour – a spectacle, not terribly intimate, but with Lara’s energy and vocal prowess on full display. And given the importance of her fans to her music, it seems proper that it will bring their affection into prominence as well. In reality, nothing enlivens a ‘live DVD’ as much as an enthusiastic audience, so this should be a hit! Some videos are already available on youtube, and more will probably follow.
In other news, Lara was featured as expected on the show “La Folie Des Années 90”, with an extract of her singing ‘Je t’aime’. The video is available on youtube.
TLFM jumped 52 spots to 119 in France, perhaps associated with Lara’s continuing promotion, or maybe just part of the random fluctuations at that level of sales.
Larafabiannews.com has an interview Lara gave during her recent trip to Moldavia. Of most relevance is the idea that the producers conceive of this interview as one of the series in which they interview the world’s best singers (Whitney, Mariah, Celine and Barbra). Of course Lara’s fans believe that she ranks with (or above) them, but it’s nice to see that others agree, even in countries as widely dispersed as Moldavia.
Lara’s concert tour does not end with the DVD recording, as she has three more shows this coming week, and two others later in March before leaving for Israel at the end of the month. Some of the upcoming concerts will be acoustic.
