Some more controversy, at least on the official site, followed Lara this week concerning her cancellation of her appearance on the Telethon December 5th. You may remember that she said it was for 'personal reasons', and one possibility was poor health, as she clearly was sick at the Renes concert. Well, she was sufficiently recovered to attend, the same day, Justine Henine's first tennis tournament since her return from retirement. Justine won it, and pictures of Lara congratulating her and meeting fans are available on the official site at:

The question raised on the official site was whether this was a sufficient reason to back out of the Telethon. Justine had been present for Lara's re-emergence, and Lara obviously felt it was loyal to attend. On the other hand, her presence on the Telethon had been widely advertised, and had she been there, it may well have brought in more money for some rare diseases. Others argued that this was not the real reason for her change of mind - that it would have been possible (though tiring) to have gone to France for the Telethon and still gotten back to Belgium for Justine's victory. Furthermore, they pointed out that this tournament, and Justine's presence in it, had been known for a month or more, yet Lara pulled out only one week ago. Most likely Lara either had not focused on the tennis tournament until it was too late, or at the last moment felt it would be too much of an effort to attend both.
On the other hand, Lara has joined other celebrities who are planning to sell their handbags with proceeds going to the organization Paris Tout P'tits, which helps families with very young children. Sales will take place from December 10-18; to participate, go to www.instantluxe.com. Lara's devotion to charity cannot be questioned, however her reliability is sometimes suspect.
It turns out that the taping of 'N'oubliez pas les paroles' did not take place last week, but is occurring today. Lara's appearance is still being announced, so presumably she is well enough to attend (she did look a little tired in the tennis photos).
As indicated by Ksenia on the official site forum, Lara has apparently added a concert in Kiev on February 23rd, an example of her continuing push into the former Soviet Union (http://www.parter.ua/ua/calendar/2010-02-23.html). This was previously an open date, part of a three week break that was presumably going to be used to film her role in 'Charlie', the movie being done in Italy. In the thread for last week's news uupdate, restck1989 (Christine) mentioned that the director met Lara in Paris last week and came away feeling inspired and happy about Lara's participation. Maybe he indicated to Lara that it wouldn't take the full time, leaving the 23rd available; let's hope so!
As you'll notice on the welcoming page of the official site, the first 200 copies of EWIM that are sold from December 15th on will be signed by Lara. At the same time, another fiasco involving Lara's people took place, this time involving FNAC. As elliot 67 first pointed out, FNAC started advertising EWIM as being available from them beginning December 7th. This was a big (and welcome) change, indicating that Lara's people recognized its popularity and expanded its sale into the commercial arena (as opposed to just selling it from their website). Then today, FNAC took it back - now saying it is not available. Presumably they wouldn't have done this by themselves - somebody on Lara's staff must have ok'd it, and then reversed course. It would be interesting to find out how that happened - did Universal step in and stop it? Or did Lara's people change their mind? It may simply be that FNAC did not receive any copies to sell. Whatever the reason, if it doesn't come back there it will certainly limit sales, and encourage the idea that it is not an official release.
In another disengagement of the same nature, it was pointed out that 'France Bleu' provides videos of their private concerts on their site. All, it turns out, except Lara's, (which took place in early October). When fans wrote to ask, they were told that Lara's people prohibited it. While their reticence is not surprising - they seem to think that limiting Lara's appearance will make her more popular! - it is odd because videos were not prohibited at the concert itself, and so much of it appeared on youtube.
Two nice pictures of Lara, including the cover can be found in the publication "News of People" thanks to Christine at larafabiangreek.blogspot.com/
Lara has 4 concerts in the next week including the one in Belgium tomorrow. Hopefully she will be rested and healthy for this schedule.
