Lara finally got a real week off just prior to resuming her concert schedule. She undoubtedly used it to help celebrate Lou’s second birthday, on November 20th (happy belated birthday, Lou!). In fact, Lara was in such a hurry to get back, that her appearance on “les petits chanteurs a la croix de bois” last Tuesday, singing Mamy Blue, took place prior to any audience arriving (to the consternation of some of Lara’s fans who had made great efforts to be there). The explanation was that Lara had to catch a train, and indeed was seen carrying her bag. The show will be broadcast December 24th. It raised the question as to whether this is going to be the next ‘single’ (which as we know, doesn’t get released as a real single, anyway). And for these reasons, or perhaps due to fear of the Swine flu, Lara passed up going to Igor Krutoi’s concert ‘Déjà vu’ in Moscow, an event that she had expressed an interest in.
Concerning her other appearances last week, some nice photos of Lara at Caen taken by Marie-pierre are available on the official site, about 2/3 of the way down the page at:

Now that the actual CD of EWIM is becoming available around the world, it is obvious that it is not a Universal album, but Lara’s own ‘9 Productions’. You may remember that she said in an interview that she was trying to get Pascal Negre and Universal interested in it; apparently that failed. Which brings up the question: is it o.k. for Lara to sell her own CDs when she has a contract with Universal? Can she just release anything she wants, or does she have to get their permission? A related question applies to “Mademoiselle Zhivago”. According to Igor Krutoi, it will be sold and promoted throughout Europe, and presumably America. How does he know - has Universal agreed to this already? Or will this not be a Universal album either? It was reported that Lara had been arguing with Universal (presumably over EWIM), which followed her argument over TLFM; is she going to remain under their wing? Presumably Lara had to spend her own money to cut the 25,000 copies of EWIM, which cannot have made her happy, and we know that an unhappy Lara and her record company are soon parted.
News about “Mademoiselle Zhivago” has raised questions in people’s minds about whether ‘Le Secret’ has just been retitled, or whether it is a different album entirely. You may remember in the Platine article Lara referred to an album with an Israeli that would be her next release. Was this ‘Le Secret’ that has now been shelved? And this 4 language album; how does it relate to the ‘4 language album’ that Lara indicated last year she had been recording in Los Angeles? How much work did she do on the Italian album, anyway? Obviously, if we wait long enough, something ends up getting released, but it would be interesting to know how many cuts Lara has that are sitting around, not seeing the light of day…
TLFM has dropped to 81st in France ( a fall of 8 places). However, Lara’s concerts pick up again, which may help it.
Charlotte on the official site forum noted that in Julie Zenatti’s recent book on the making of ‘Le notre dame de Paris’, Julie mentions that Patrick Fiori had to take several days off because of a ‘stomach ache’ – but really, he went to see Lara in Montreal (she doesn’t say Lara’s name, but refers to her as ‘the female singer with the voice of gold’). What’s most surprising about this anecdote is that it, and a subsequent discussion, were allowed on the official site; for many years even the mention of Patrick Fiori’s name was ‘verboten’ as being too connected with Lara’s personal life. Perhaps a liberalization has set in (or the people in charge just don’t read their own site).
As far as upcoming events are concerned, the song “If”, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of fighting AIDS, is being released December 1st; to hear an extract of it that includes Lara (thanks to tit ange on the official site forum), go to:

And an article about the upcoming French telethon, scheduled for December 4-5, with a small photo of Lara is available at:

(thanks to angeyelliel on the official site). You may remember that Lara will be the ‘godmother’ of the Téléthon in Annecy, which will be the city to host the transmission that Saturday afternoon.
Lara’s concert schedule resumes tonight, with an appearance at the Grand Kursaal duplex and her concert in Dunkerque. Six performances are listed on the official site for the next 10 days at various locations in France; let’s hope people are in positions to take videos! Her show scheduled for Nancy on the 1st has apparently been shifted to a smaller room (it is hard to fill the Zenith theatres). Lara is also supposed to be present for the recording of the show “n’oubliez pas les paroles” on December 3rd. Also next week, on December 1, the new Russian site at www.lara-fabian.ru will open.
