Lara did appear in ‘la fete de la musique’ last Sunday, and sang ‘Soleil soleil” – video is available on Youtube (check out her outfit). She also recorded a show hosted by Jean Luc Lemoine, again featuring ‘Soleil soleil’, to be telecast during the summer. And she appeared in several French cities and on several radio shows, including Mona FM, RTL, and Bel RTL where we learned that Lou now weights 12 kg!. She discussed her interaction with Catherine Lara (“Nuit Magique” on TLFM) and in fact Lara attended her recent show – a photo of the two of them together is available at:

One interesting thing is that on these various programs, the hosts choose different songs to play – indicative of the wide variety of interesting music it contains.
The album continues to do well, although it has slipped to #13 in France. It was officially awarded a ‘gold record’ – which means 75,000 copies have been distributed (fans have estimated that 50,000 have actually been sold) in the first month. However, between rehearsals of the Lemoine show, Lara indicated that 100,000 records have now been sold - which may include Belgium (where it is currently 4th) and perhaps even Russia (where it was 5th). In any event, it is certainly a respectable showing.
This is especially true in the light of negative comments (about both the record and Lara herself) that keep making their way onto the public airwaves. The latest remarks center around Lara’s having ‘descended’ into the realm of ‘the public’, from her reputation as a singer/songwriter with some intellectual heft. While it’s true the lyrics here are not representative of Lara’s own poeticism and complexity, each of Lara’s albums has its particular point and special appeal; the sales so far suggest she may be reaching a public more receptive to pop songs enlivened by Lara’s spectacular voice.
In addition to the upcoming English language tribute album (EWIM), in a recent interview (http://www.lejournaldesplages.com/post/2009/06/25/Lara-Fabian), Lara repeated that the Italian equivalent also already exists, and will be released later. Some were skeptical about the English version, but since it now looks to be real, one would think the Italian version also truly will appear. If nothing else, it solves the problem of Lara having sufficient Italian language original songs.
Lara has put on the official site (in the ‘Word from Lara' French section a song by a children’s chorus concerning protecting the planet. She indicates she’ll have more to say about them in her next message. BTW, the official site also has a new ‘welcoming’ photo of Lara – very pretty. Natalie reported that the new Farfallina will be sent out in July.
It seems appropriate to end this news update with a comment about Lara visa vi Michael Jackson. One can find on Youtube an interview from 2007 in which she expresses her admiration for him, and even sings a little bit of ‘Thriller”. [I suppose the French critics should also target him for ‘appealing to the public’.}
