Another very busy week for Lara, as she publicizes her new album.
As part of the continuing promo, Lara appeared on various TV interview shows this past week. As Paula mentioned in the thread for last week's update, some of the main videos are available on NABBOX and Youtube. Recounting some of the highlights: on “13H de France 2” she sang a portion of “soleil soleil” a cappela with several of her chorus members. She confirmed on ‘france bleu’that the song TLFM will be the next single. She mentioned again that there will be ‘very new technology’ (“Star-wars variety”) on her upcoming tour [she had previously mentioned they were experimenting with holograms…]. And as reported on www.larafabiannews.blogger.com, in an interview on PURE FM she mentioned that her singing of “Wind Beneath My Wings” was dedicated to her best friend Nathalie (perhaps the person now running her website…).
As should be expected, not everything went without a hitch. On the program “en Corse” on France Bleu, she was supposed to sing several songs to the background music supplied by the TLFM, but the engineers in charge put on the wrong songs; then they failed to blank out the singing on the CD. Apparently she handled the mix-up professionally.
Lara also continues to push the new album with fans at radio stations/stores around France, the latest being a Virgin Megastore of the Louvre in Paris yesterday. Her appearances and personal interactions have gotten great reviews from the fans attending, and their reactions appear to have made Lara very happy as well. A video of Lara at this store is available on Facebook at:

Buoyed by her recent concerts, Lara’s popularity continues to grow in Russia. In fact, her album opened in the #5 position on the Russian charts this week. On a show devoted to her recent Moscow trip (100% Mag) she reported that next year she will return to Moscow in a concert room that seats 6000. This success has led fans to suggest she really ought to exploit her inherent popularity outside of France in countries such as Latin America and Italy, etc. with extensive tours there. Lara has said there first has to be a demand that could cover expenses – but it’s a ‘catch-22’, for to have that demand, she first has to show up.
Lara also continues to say that she feels criticism of TLFM is more personal than professional, a topic that has gotten much play on the official site among others. As indicated in my review, I think the problem is that critics (and fans) have approached this work with expectations based on the past, when Lara is doing something different. Many musical performers have had this problem – generally it is only later on that people fully appreciate the change (the examples of this are legion). As if in confirmation, some people who were quite negative to begin with have written in to say that the album is growing on them… In France, TLFM is currently #9 in sales, despite very little radio support. It is 3rd in Belgium and 53rd in Swizerland. Concerning downloads, it is 11th on FNAC, 66th on amazon.fr and 19th with Virgin Mega.
In other news, the report which originated from Larafabianweb.com about the presumed 2CD digipack to be sold this fall turns out to be an error. As originally stated, it would include TLFM and EWIM, the English tribute album to female singers. Actually, EWIM will be sold by itself – makes much more sense, rather than forcing fans to buy an album they already have.
As to the coming week(s), additional public appearances and TV/radio shows are being added all the time. Lara will even be on TV5 (in the States) this evening on a show called “La Fete de la musique 2009”; broadcast time is 11PM.
