Lara spent the past week in Moscow, with 5 shows and an autograph session. A number of videos and audios from the shows are available on a Russian website:
www.larafabian.borda.ru/?1-15-0-00000011-30-0-0-1244239852
One has to look through the various pages to find them, and as of this point, more are still being added. Some have also appeared on Youtube.
Lara has been in very good voice, and her choice of songs is quite eclectic, representing her various projects, old and new. For example, the songs from the June 2 concert were:
1. Il venait d'avoir 18 ans; 2. J'ai 12 ans;3. Gottingen;
4. Amoureuse; 5. J'y crois encore; 6. La difference;
7. Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered; 8. Wind beneath my wings;
9. Alfie; 10. I guess I loved you; 11 Soleil soleil;
12 Humana; 13 Alfonsina y el mar; 14 Grande grande grande;
15 Lou; 16 Demain n'existe pas;
17 j'ai besoin de parler; 18 Angel
In addition to the songs from TLFM, there are likely songs from EWIM, past hits, and even two new songs (#s 15 and 16), both written with Igor Krutoi, the Russian composer (it seems he wrote the music, she the lyrics). This actually verifies a rumor from some months back that they would work together on her next album; in an interview Igor mentioned it would be out in a year or a little bit more. The song for ‘Lou’ is in Italian (as is “Grande, grande, grande”), and Ely in a response to last week's update kindly provided a translation (thank you!). It was noted by ‘beautifulbutterfly’ on Laradom that “Alfonsina y el mar” is a song by sung by Mercedes Sosa from Argentina. The actual setlist varied a bit from show to show – “Both Sides Now” was in the June 1st concert, for example, and additional songs from TLFM were presented on other dates.
Apparently the shows have been a great success, Lara received many flowers (as is the ‘Russian tradition’) and the audience even surprised her by singing “Je t’aime” (in cahoots with the band) her last night there.
Some fans are asking whether this song lineup will be what is performed during her Fall/Winter tour. Lara has indicated that she will be performing this type of mixture, but it remains to be seen – in the past, her Russian shows have generally had a wider mix of songs, given that the audience may know English better than French.
Last night, Lara’s appearance on “Rendez-vous avec mon idol” was broadcast on French TV1. She sang a duet with a fan (Noémie) of “Tue es mon autre” and also performed “Soleil soleil” with her chorus. The best word to describe Lara was radiant, and her outfits have to be seen to be appreciated! Videos are available on NABBOX (4 videos in all, two of her interactions with Noémie including Lara surprising her – I won’t give it away!).
Lara was featured in an interview that the official site characterized as ‘very important’, with NRJ Paris, shown yesterday on ITW. As with the others recently, it first concerned her career and her reasons for doing the new album. But it was partly done in a car, and they walked through streets in Paris to “Schwartz’s” café (a favorite of hers) where they ordered cheese cake. The video is available on NABBOX.
A short clip summarizing Lara’s career was shown on the TV program Hitalia, in which fans voted for their favorite artists in categories (which for her was “Belgian-Italian…she didn’t win). Of interest was that in addition to the duos with Mauranne and Johnny Hallyday, they showed her singing “La Solitudine” with Laura Pausini from the TV show “La Dolce Italia". You may have noticed that that duet is continually being put on Youtube, and has now entered the public consciousness. The video (which is less than a minute) is again available on NABBOX.
Lara was also featured in various publications that appeared this past week, discussing her career and the new album. Tmaj00 has a partial list and some scans of them (as well as some of the Moscow material) at:
www.larafabiannews.blogger.com.br/index.html
Of particular interest is an article in the “Closer” for June 6th, in which Marc Lerchs talks about being present at Lara’s debut. Her first songs were with him – and then he was left behind (a choice that was out of her hands) when she went on to do the Eurovision contest . We’ve recently seen a video of them that Lara’s father took the last evening they performed together, at the release of the 45 single. Indicative of the wide ranging promotion, Lara appeared in the Toyota club magazine – where she gives her preferences about things – for a car, it the “Prius”; for an object, it’s a chandalier.
All of this is obviously good publicity, and TLFM continues to sell well. It is 3rd in sales currently in France (now on the order of 20,000 copies), and is 1st in Belgium. It's also in the top 5 on most of the major downloading sites in France. This is despite the generally poor reviews from music critics (which in my review I contend says more about the critics than about this gorgeous album). And Lara’s demeanor seems to indicate that she is not taking the reviews very seriously either; I suppose having the president of Universal behind her provides a lot of solace. She has also gone through the fire with the critics, and is now (at least to some extent) hardened. BTW, Lara said in Moscow that she has now heard back from some of the singers to whom she addressed the letters in her album. And if you have any interest in what is actually in the “Limited-edition” version of TLFM – available only in Carrefour stores in France – it is a book of photos of Lara along with the songs/pictures in the standard version. Scans of it were kindly made available by valou712 at:
www.pure-lara.fr/cdpromos2.html
This coming week her interview in Platine is due out – always very interesting. Lara will be at FNAC in Reims on June 8th to publicize the new album. Otherwise, we should not be surprised to find additional promos popping up in the press, along with Lara.
