Although Lara’s new album is not officially to be released until Monday or Tuesday, in fact many stores, in a somewhat cavalier manner, made it available last week (Carrefour has a ‘collector’s edition', which apparently has more photos of Lara). Therefore, it is already being reviewed by fans, and some of the songs have already shown up on Youtube.
The reviews so far are unanimous in one regard – Lara’s singing is top-notch. And even those fans who were most down on the entire idea – did not want an album of reprises, preferred Lara’s softer approach, appreciated the more sophisticated instrumentation of the aborted October release – have admitted that it is better than they thought it would be. Many fans just love the whole thing, and the choice of which songs are their favorites cover the whole spectrum of the album. As it will be more generally available on Monday or Tuesday, more fan reviews will likely be posted. I've suggesgted a separate thread in this section for those of you who want to give your own reviews, although it is up to the administrators of this site to place it where they want it.
It will also then be available for downloading from some websites which include Babacar, the 14th song (not on the actual CD). Tmaj00 posted a link to one such site:
www.qobuz.com/telechargement-album-mp3/Lara-Fabian-Toutes-Les-Femmes-En-Moi/Variata-franaaise-Chanteurs-Interprates-Groupes/Lara-Fabian/Polydor/default/fiche_produit/id_produit-0060075313513.html
Given that it is now the 25th in France, Babacar is available immediately. Obviously, one has to set up an account first.
As for the booklet that comes with the CD, (for those of you who do not want to be surprised) larafabianweb.com has made it available at
www.larafabianweb.com/paroles/2009/TLFM.htm
and you can see that, as advertised, Lara does include a letter (and drawing) to each of the artists (living or dead) whose songs she is using. In her acknowledgments she mentions Lou and Gerard, as well as her fans.
In support of the album, Lara had various public appearances which aired last week. Of chief interest was the show ‘quelque chose en nous de…”, the Belgian special on Lara that broadcast last Thursday. Rochlara has put the first 4 (out of 10) segments on NABBOX; the rest are supposed to be added tomorrow. [NABBOX has had FTP server problems all week, including today, which partially accounts for the delay.] On the show, Lara sings a few songs, and meets with various people, in a review of her life and career. It would be a shame to spoil some of the surprises that took place, so suffice it to say, that this show is destined to be one of the highlights for Lara’s fans, and should not be missed. [Note that with the high quality of the reproduction, the first four segments alone have come to ~920mb, so one imagines the whole show will be > 2GB.]
Justine Henin is on of the co-hosts for this show, and while on the topic, an article about Justine and Lara appeared in the Belgian version of “Paris Match”. Scans of the article (or at least so far p. 1,2 and 5 of it; pp. 3 and 4 so far do not seem to download) are available on the official site, at:
www.larafabian.com/forumLara/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8876&sid=91a036cceb0e2e70f1fb988896ce490d&start=15
The primary point made in the article is how very good friends these two are.
Lara was also in "thé ou café" sur France 2”. Another long show, of some 40 minutes, which in addition to an extensive interview shows Lara involved in a few different things, including shopping for jewelry, eating in a café, and joining music students. The program had pictures on the wall of the different women whose songs Lara sings in the new album, and Nana Mouskouri and Nicoletta appear in video interviews. Lara’s stint as a homeless person and the accompanying video, is also included. A wonderful live performance of (most of) “Soleil Soleil” occurs towards the end of the show. The full version is available on Hezia’s site, at:
forum.aceboard.net/38688-942-21435-2-cafe-France-samedi.htm
Lara then appeared on the radio show "On repeint la musique" on France Bleu today. On the show they played three cuts from the new album “Soleil Soleil”, “L’hymne a l’amour” and “Amoureuse”. It is interesting that France Bleu has become the chief radio outlet for Lara’s promotion, replacing Cheri Fm, which had held that honor the last several years. One can find the audio of this show on Youtube.
On this show, Lara again indicated that she will be in “Victor, Victoria” next year. Annie, on Hezia’s site, reported that Lara has been named the chairwoman of the Académie Internationale de Comédie Musicale; clearly, she intends to pursue this line of entertainment, which, as she says, gives her the chance to both sing and dance on stage, while adapting another character and saying other people’s lines. [In a different interview, she wondered how her fans would take to seeing her do these different things…].
Johhny Hallyday called in and told Lara that he would like her to sing with him on his current farewell tour, and she agreed to do it. That led to speculation that she would join him on the 30th at the Stade de France, which will be televised on France 1. In fact, it was reported that Lara and Justine Henin were actually in the audience for his show on the 20th. However, Nathalie on the official site, actually responding to a question for once, asked Lara and was told that she would not be there on the 30th (Lara has concerts in Russia starting June 1st which may have influenced her decision). But he has numerous other appearances, so a duet between them may well occur at a later date.
Lara has come up with a name for her new tour; it will be known as
"Toutes les femmes en moi font leur show" ("All the women in me do their show"). Perhaps she’ll even change costumes so as to dress like each of these other women when she does their song. ;D
This coming week features the official release of the new album as well as additional public appearances. After the long wait, Lara’s time has now come.
