At long last, the time for Lara’s return has arrived, with several TV appearances over the weekend. Most notably, she sang "Le Rêve De Stella Spotlight" on 'Les 30 ans de Starmania' (30 year anniversary) and showed herself to be in fine voice, even if the song was rather short. You may remember, Lara was also on the 25th anniversary show, where she sang “Le Blues de Businessman”, another wonderful performance. And of course she included a Starmania medley on the En Toute Intimite tour. The video of her latest effort is available on Youtube.
Lara seems very comfortable with these songs, because they also allow her to ‘play a part’, something that apparently is going to happen with ‘Victor Victoria’ early next year. Confirmation of the show, at least, is available at www.mcproductions.fr/
In addition, Lara appeared on “Petites Stars le grand soir-samedi”, and sang two songs. The full version of “Soleil Soleil” included the English stanza, which now really appears to be an integral part of her remake of the song. It was nothing less than radiant (appropriate, as befits the title).
Fulfilling the main purpose of the show, Lara first performed with Laura (a very cool girl who seemed unphased by the whole experience) and we got to hear what “Message Personnel” will probably sound like on Lara’s new album. A very cute duo. Both videos are available on NABBOX as noted by Kael in another post, and now also on Youtube.
Lara also received a lot of publicity this past week concerning her appearance with three other celebrities posing as homeless people. Another video clip of a news show discussing it was put by Olympio on NABBOX (this is in addition to the clip from Telefrance noted in last week’s news update response). Other news shows and newspaper articles have discussed it – good publicity both for the cause and for Lara’s upcoming album.
As far as the song selection for the new album is concerned, another ‘official’ listing became available at
www.mediadis.com/music/detail.asp?id=204732
This one reads:
1. Message personnel - Françoise Hardy 1973
2. Nuit magique - Catherine Lara 1986
3. L'amour existe encore - Céline Dion 1991
4. Mamy blues - Nicoletta 1971
5. L'hymne à l'amour - Edith Piaf 1949
6. Babacar - France Gall 1987
7. Amoureuse - Véronique Sanson 1972
8. Gottingen - Barbara 1965
9. Une femme amoureuse - Mireille Matthieu 1980 (Adaptation de Women in love de Barbara Streisand)
10. Il venait d'avoir 18 ans - Dalida 1973
11. Libertine - Mylène Farmer 1986
12. J'ai 12 ans - Diane Dufresne 1990
13. Ca casse - Maurane 1991
14. Toutes les femmes en moi - Inédit 2008
15. Le droit des femmes - Inédit 2008
16. Soleil Soleil - Nana Mouskouri 1972
As you can see, “Libertine” is back, but a text concerning the rights of women is gone. Nathalie on the official site was asked to please clarify the song list; in reply, she said it would be made available when the album comes out. Fans then pointed out that once the album is out, there’s no need to provide it. There is still no listing for the new album in the ‘Discography’ section of the official site, despite its availability for pre-order in a variety of places. This includes a ‘digipack’ which can be ordered from Alapage – which usually means the addition of a bonus DVD. No explanation has been offered as to what that implies in this case.
The recording of the show “Vivement Dimanche”, scheduled for Broadcast on May 3 took place last week. A few photos from it are available at

Apparently Lara sang “Soleil Soleil” twice – disappearing for some reason between the appearances (presumably only one version will appear when the show airs). It had the same chorus as seen this weekend, but was said to have been performed with no musicians. Her video as a ‘homeless person’ was also shown during the recording session, and she was briefly interviewed about it. How much of this will be aired remains to be seen.
17 tour dates have now been finalized for the fall/winter so far (not counting the ones in Russia). During the months of May and June, there are 8 more TV appearances and 4 radio shows scheduled; it is certainly possible that more will be added.
It is very nice to have the real Lara available once again – hopefully we can now put the ‘rumored’ Lara to rest! It reminds us of why we’ve paid attention to her all these years, and stayed interested through her long hiatus. Welcome back!
