The taping of the Belgian TV show “ Quelques chose en nous de...”
took place last Saturday night as anticipated. The report from Neera on the Official site indicated that there were numerous surprise guests who came to honor and sing with Lara. Neera didn’t want to give it all away, but mentioned Maurane, Zuchero, and Isabelle Boulay, among others; Lara’s father also appeared. She indicated that Lara was really surprised and very emotional (sort of like a “This is Your Life” show, apparently). Lara sang “Soleil, Soleil”, although whether she really sang it or just lip-synched we will hopefully find out when the program is broadcast in early June. Some pictures from the program are available (you may have to do a search with Lara’s name and specify the last week or two):

People are looking for NABBOX to provide a recording of this show when it airs for those outside of Belgium. Others have suggested that Lara put the show in the videos part of her ‘goodies’ section on the official website. As someone else pointed out, there are many many videos of Lara on TV shows that have already received public airing, and it would make the official site a much more endearing place if she made a habit of posting both old and new ones there. Of course, she would probably have to ask for permission from the TV stations that ‘officially’ own them, but they have not taken action against the display of such videos previously on sites such as Youtube (they are good publicity, after all), and she could probably get it. Nevertheless, this would require an appreciation of public relations that has been rarely demonstrated by her ‘people’ – or at least that somebody in a position of power read the suggestions that have appeared on the Official site forum.
As a side note, the show was actually closed to the general audience, but some of Lara’s fans (like Neera) went anyway, and surprisingly, were let in! Also surprisingly, this caused a good deal of consternation for other fans who hadn’t gone, and evoked many jealous, negative comments. The ‘lucky’ few responded by noting that some of them had come from far away with no guarantee that their efforts would be rewarded. Usually fans are publicly congratulated by the others for having seen Lara; it’s not clear what this change in attitude means, perhaps nothing more than that fans are starved from lack of contact with her.
While we have learned in the last year to be skeptical of rumors concerning Lara’s activities, apparently we now have to learn to be skeptical of denials as well! At the end of this TV taping, it was reported that Lara acknowledged to Olivier Monssens in an interview that she would in fact be appearing in the show “Victor Victoria”, presumably in 2010 as had been publicly reported. You may remember that Gerard had refuted the initial disclosure of this in “French Soir”. To try and reconcile the two statements, people suggested maybe Gerard had thought the publication said Lara was going to be in “Mary Poppins”, which had been mentioned in connection with Julie Andrews (the previous star of ‘Victor Victoria’). Whatever the reasoning, as we have seen various times in the last two years, Lara’s saying she will be in a show does not in any way make it a certainty, and Gerard may be proven right after all (perhaps he was just being cynical ;D ). It was also pointed out that were it to take place, it would put in doubt the release of an album of new songs next year; however, in the latest Farfallina (see below), in response to a question, Lara indicated there is no album of originals currently being planned for release. Her only new lyrics are the text she has included in TLFM.
On the other hand, the album’s release and accompanying promos are becoming ‘more real’, with various articles, and announcements of audience participation for the various programs. Here, for example, is a recent article from Yahoo news, as noted by angeyelliel on the official site:
fr.news.yahoo.com/49/20090326/ten-lara-fabian-nous-revient-enfin-ff967a9.html
In addition, “Mickey2009” wrote on the forum of ‘cherieFM’ that he saw Lara in a Paris café giving an interview for the magazine “Paris Match” concerning the release of TLFM. It wasn’t clear when the article would appear. He also said she had a CD that he learned was a promotional copy for the press; it contained 6 songs, ‘Soleil Soleil’, ‘Nuit Magique’, ‘Gottingen’, ‘L'amour existe encore’, 'J'ai 12 ans', and ‘Il venait d'avoir 18 ans’. Presumably this represents what Lara thinks are the most likely hits from the album – and may imply what the future singles will be. Apparently Lara gave him a copy of it, and his review indicated that all six songs were excellent He particularly commended Lara’s singing, a very good sign (and again very different from the previous version…although we don’t yet know whether what he heard was really different from that played on October 16). Actually, he thought ‘Soleil Soleil’ was the least impressive of the six songs.
Speaking of which…it has been played a few times on the radio, particularly on france bleu. There is also an indication that Lara will be live on that radio station to promote it in the weeks to come (although the official site has so far not listed it).
Farfallina 13 is now being sent, and this past week was received in Brussels and much of western Europe, including France. Interesting divergence of opinion concerning it; the reviews from Brussels were all glowing, while those from France seemed disappointing. Apparently there are not many pictures of Lara, and in particular, no picture of her on the cover. She answers some fans questions, just not very many of them. It does seem that she discusses the new album. laetitia9 complained on the official site that it arrived in a torn envelope, with the edges deformed. This was the case with Farfallina 12 for several people in the States as well; on mentioning it to Nathalie, she disclaimed any knowledge of why that would happen. In general, other publications do not come like this, so it may be something they are doing (or the postal people are really big fans of Lara!). Anyone else noticing this should also take the opportunity to notify Nathalie – perhaps if enough people complain, some action could be taken. One positive to thing to say about Nathalie – if you send her an email message (info@larafabian.com), she seems to respond quickly.
Finally, some nice photos of Lara have been added (by Thierry67) on the official site, primarily from 2006
