Rumors of future events and interactions with the official site dominated the news this past week.
Larafabianweb.com announced that they had received information that Lara’s new album will likely come out sooner than the planned June release date, as preparations for its release are being finished now. A single from the album will be made available to radio stations and, they said, features some great singing. They also stated that more definitive news would come next week. They expressed the opinion that the album was beautiful.
An earlier release would certainly be useful, and as noted last week, would help sales – perhaps that point is getting across to Lara and Universal. However, given all the past rumors, it’s obvious that, as one fan put it, “believing is holding it in one’s hand”! No official statement in this regard has been provided.
The magazine Télé loisir for March 7-13th stated that Lara will be one of the performers present during the month of April in TF1’s ‘sing with my idol’ series. This would seem to lend credence to the purported ‘auditions’ fans have been talking about for the last several weeks. Yet skepticism remains – the TF1.fr website does not list her as being in one of the upcoming shows. Again no comment on the Official site.
However, Nathalie on the Official site has been active in other ways, particularly in removing a number of messages from the forum. She announced that her reason was to maintain a convivial atmosphere. As might be expected, some people considered that this represented censorship, since the offending messages were generally critical of the new album or the repeated delays. The whole discussion of censorship was not allowed on the official site itself but did continue for a while on Hezia’s, where Nathalie explained that only polite critical messages were allowed. She further said that since she’s not glued to the site all the time, sometimes pages have accumulated before she notices it – at which point her only choice is to delete the whole topic. It would probably be less offensive to simply end unproductive discussions rather than delete them, as if the expression of those opinions had not really happened.
Personally I can see how some of the back-and-forth diatribes may be wearying and turn people off – it’s hard to know where to draw the line. One could make the case that controversy is the life-blood of a site (sadly, anger often provides more energy than other emotions!), and when it arises naturally, it shouldn’t be discouraged. But clearly, Lara’s people are adverse to having the official site characterized by criticism of her. To me what’s more offensive is that discussions of Lara’s future activities are carried on without the Official Site responding to questions they could clarify, such as for the two topics given above.
Considering past events that did really happen: As first noted by spiritroom and kcmc13 in laraDOMus, Lara appeared from Nice in a taped video last week in support of one of the contestants in the Quebec Star Academy Show. Her message is available as part of the video (around the 4 minute mark) at:
video.staracademie.ca/video/featured/variété_du_1er_mars_(1)/14470627001
As was also noted, Lara’s choice did not advance to the next round.
“sAtAnAs” has put together an estimate of the sales of Lara’s different albums and singles. You can see it at:
www.chartsinfrance.net/communaute/index.php?showtopic=30058
Another fan pointed out that the total sales given add up to a little more than 10 million copies, whereas Lara herself has mentioned 13 million, so it is still a work in progress (there’s no total for the sales of the single “I Will Love Again”, for example). Nevertheless, it does give one an idea of how popular her past albums were from a sales perspective. It is noted on the site that if anyone has some better numbers, or can fill in missing data (from Brazil, Canada, etc.) they would love to have it. One would expect that Lara’s people know these numbers and could provide them, but nobody even thought to ask them.
Finally, valou712 put a few nice photos of Lara from 2006 at

We shall see next week whether anything new is forthcoming about Lara's next album...
