Lara’s interview on Belgian TV, discussed in last week’s update, was recorded and shown on NABBOX this past week. It is clear that in the half hour they did not include the entire interview – for example, the extract noted in last week’s update concerning her English albums was missing. We also never got to know what they had for dessert ;D . It was very nice to see Lara again, but the time wasn't very well used, as more could have been asked about her future musical plans.
With the turn of events, Lara ended up having nothing truly new to offer for the New Year, however the recorded show of the NOTP tour from the spring of 2007 was presented for the first time on French TV (TV2) last night. As you may remember from when it was shown on Belgian TV and made available on NABBOX, the program featured her singing “I’m So Excited” and “Adagio”; she was at the top of her form. A good start to the New Year.
The news concerning her upcoming album was not as good. Lara mentioned in her message on the new website that it would be released between mid-March and mid-April. In an article on ptitblog, at
www.ptitblog.net/actualites/article-la-liste-des-chansons-de-toutes-les-femmes-en-moi-2783.html
it was indicated that the release date is now set for April 13th. If this really proves to be the case, it would mark the second time that the album has been delayed, and in both instances Lara had set up a high profile promo which ends up irrelevant. In December she had to cancel numerous public appearances, and the March release date was to be preceded by her show on the “Rights of Women”. Since that is to take place on the ‘day’ for women’s rights (March 8th) it presumably can’t be changed, so it’s impact as publicity for Lara’s album will be muted. And obviously, this may not be the last delay; one wonders how it is possible to know 4 months in advance that an album will be ready for a specific date.
An aside from musical issues: in his blog, Jean-Marc Elfassi notes that the rumored marriage of Lara and Gérard Pullicino will not take place in 2009 because, as announced in the magazine Closer, Gérard’s divorce has not yet come through (despite previous reports to the contrary).
As noted above, several of Lara’s recent appearances were made available on NABBOX. Unfortunately, Arnaud, the proprietor of the site, announced that the site will close in March. In his message, he indicated that his real life had to take precedence over his virtual life. Without making too broad a point about this, it does bring to mind that nothing lasts forever, not websites that make Lara’s work available, nor Lara’s career itself. In the same vein, Alex on Laradom made the point that Lara should make the most of her voice while she still has it. A valid criticism, and yet from this larger perspective, we really should be grateful for anything we get from Lara, including the fact that while delayed, her new album is still scheduled to be released (hopefully!). NABBOX has some 9000 active members and there is still the possibility that somebody will step forward to take it over.
Finally, there are some nice photos of Lara from her private concert in October posted by angeyelliel at:

Not all of the pictures are from this concert, but many of them are, and Lara did look very pretty.

ps - Lara turns 39 on January 9th. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
