This week, the fallout associated with Lara’s postponement of her new album became more apparent.
First, Lara put a new message on her site (the third new message in as many weeks, after months in between the previous ones). A translated version is given below; apparently, only positive messages are translated into English on the site, and this wasn’t one of them.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello my Angels,
Sometimes there are unexpected roads…Some crossings that one takes and on which one finds one’s destiny…It is that which has just happened to me.
I poetisize a little… .It is necessary to announce to you that my album is delayed… I hear your disappointment from here.
If only you could hear mine…
Evidently, I didn’t yet know of the circumstances that would lead me to this reality when I presented the album to you last October 16th, you can well imagine…
On the other hand the information in the press is inaccurate.
Simply, I would say to you that at this time there are some musical and technical imponderables which sometimes demand a little more time…
The new Farfallina arrives, be patient…a double number will soon be in your boxes…
On the contrary, I can officially tell you that the album “TOUTES LES FEMMES EN MOI” will be released March 8th.
The date of the International Day of women.
There is it…I go back to TLFM and come back to you very quickly…
With all my affection.
Lara

You may remember that the ‘explanation’ provided in the press for the delay was that the director/producer of the album was sick…an explanation nobody really believed, and which Lara now says was untrue. As to the real reason, someone overheard two journalists talking in a restaurant saying that Pascal Nègre, Lara’s producer, had demanded a totally new remixing of the album, for the quality wasn’t there according to him. This would be consistent with my exchange with Matt Herskowitz, who said that both he and the producer agreed that the mixing of the music was too loud compared with the singing.
How this affected the possibility of Lara’s upcoming performances also soon became apparent. You may remember in the last newsletter there were several charity events at which Lara had been announced as performing, one for children and one for fighting cancer – although neither of them had been confirmed on the official site. Christian left the following message there (in translation):
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good evening to you,
Lara will not be able to be present, either on “Make a Wish” or at the Olympia next November 5th and 6th.
And there will be no more promos the next weeks.
Thanks for your comprehension.
Good evening.
Bye…
Christian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The wording of this message seemed to connect the two thoughts – and people read it to mean that since there will be no promos, Lara won’t show up at the charity events. As you can imagine, that was not well-received. Christian then tried again…
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good day to you,
By this message I inform you unhappily that Lara’s promo is pushed back (since the release of the album is pushed back until March 8th). I confirm to you therefore that she will not be on either “Make a Wish” November 5th or at the Olympia next November 6th.
Thanks for your comprehension.
Bye…
Christian.

The use of the word ‘therefore’ actually strengthened the connection and brought forth various messages saying that she should not be doing charity events for commercial reasons in the first place. A more benign reading of the message can be made, however, suggesting that she is probably in Montreal re-working aspects of the album, and that is the cause of her unavailability. This also would then seem to be the real reason for suddenly cancelling the concerts on Reunion Island – rather than for ‘health reasons’ as the people there were told. I wonder how that will go over…
Given the reaction of fans to the six songs people have heard, one would imagine there is plenty of incentive to redo at least certain components of the album. However, if it is only the mixing that is changed, that will probably not be sufficient – it is the actual singing style, the soft singing with the notes not held, occasionally morphing into murmuring/talking, that was the focus of the complaints. We will see whether any of that is changed when the album is released.
The album’s postponement also killed the special that was to be televised on French TV concerning Lara’s October 16th private concert. Another program was substituted in its place. Youtube will thus continue to be our prime source for video from this event – and more videos are being added there.
Future events are also uncertain. Lara’s performance at the Star Academy on December 5th is still noted on their website, but even they indicate that it remains to be confirmed because of the delay in releasing her album.
One additional item from last week that elicited some comment (on the few sites that acknowledged it) concerned the picture of Lara and Lou in “Voici” last week. On the surface it simply looks like paparazzi taking the opportunity to photograph the baby for the first time without Lara’s permission. However, it was noted that Lara had successfully avoided such an occurrence for almost a full year, and suddenly there she was, holding the baby for all to see. If this was really a ‘promo’ in disguise, it too ends up being mistimed, given the album’s delay. And if that were the case, how unfortunate that she would use the child that way while not allowing her fan club members to see any pictures in Farfallina.
Too bad – Lara had her new album all properly lined up, in time for a Christmas release, with a number of events to showcase it. The one thing that apparently didn’t get enough attention was the CD itself. It remains to be seen whether the improvements they have in mind will satisfy people’s yearnings of what they want Lara to be.
To end on a somewhat lighter note: in one of the videos of the October 16th meeting available on Youtube (from ‘kat422’), Lara was asked by someone whether she would come to a wedding in 2010, and Lara answered, “Who knows, it may be mine!” She then indicated that this was a joke. But many a truth…
