Along with a number of other people, I've been concerned by how loud the music sounds relative to Lara's singing in the six cuts that are available to us so far. Having heard that Matt Herskowitz is the one mixing the album, I sent him the following note:

Dear Matt,
Just a heads-up in case other people haven't mentioned this to you (it's been a topic of conversation among Lara's fans...). The 6 songs Lara played for the audience in Brussels last week were interesting, but there seemed to be a problem - one could often hardly hear the singing for the music. Perhaps that was the speaker system that was used, or the acoustics. But since you were the one who mixed the album, it's your responsibility to make sure that isn't the case on the actual CD. Otherwise, I believe it will strongly cut into whatever appeal the album might have...

Hello David,
Thanks for your note. I agree with you, but I am not mixing the album. The producer and I have communicated this already. I've no doubt that this will be corrected before it's sent off for mastering and released on Dec 1, so don't worry. Those mixes you heard were not final, the mixing engineer is still working on it. He's a great engineer, one of the best in France, and I have every confidence that the album will sound fantastic. We're all doing everything we can to make this the best album possible, we will not let you down:)

Of course it was nice to actually get a response - and I realize this will not make up for the soft singing Lara actually does - but perhaps it will become more a vocal album than an instrumental one when it finally reaches the stores. The suggestion that she might have used her October 16th concert to try out the songs before an audience gains greater credence since it seems the CD is not yet finalized.
