Lara's special circumstances as a new mother along with the normal holiday season lull have combined to reduce the 'updates' concerning Lara to just about nothing. It's a sign of how far we have moved from news of Lara's career to peripherals that the only item this week concerns the baby gifts that were bought with money the fans sent in to the web site! Eve (who couldn't be bothered to tell the fans whether the baby had been born or not) did indicate what had been purchased so far. No, it wasn't a yacht or a house in the country as the magazines had speculated; for those of you who are interested the gifts have been:
1) A bed and accessories "so that the baby can sleep when her mother will be in Paris"' and
2) An all-terrain baby carriage.
Hard to know whether they are the same things, but Lara's list of baby gifts included a "fully equipped baby carriage" which cost 759 euros, and a "Sauthon bed with bars" for 478 euros. At least the fact that these gifts are being discussed by Lara's people would seem to imply that mother and daughter are o.k.
The comment about 'when her mother will be in Paris' might simply be a generic statement of her need to be away, or might be referring to the play Lara has said she will be in during the new year. From her previous statements, one would have thought that the point of being in one location for an extended period of time (in Paris, for the play) was so that she would not have to be away from the baby, and could have her nearby, perhaps in the hotel room she supposedly has in Paris. As she has said, she doesn't want the child to be brought up by a 'nana'. So the meaning of Eve's statement remains obscure (and again, it is an indication of the state of affairs that we have to speculate about such indirect hints).
On the various web sites, the discussions have been over things such as: the reduced quality of the recent Star Academy show (which Lara obviously could not attend); over whether Chimene Badi had become a better singer than Lara; the slow arrival of new 'memberships cards' for the fan club; and the impossibility of the Italian album being released until Lara has the time to promote it.
The websites themselves are worthy of some brief comments. As some of you may know, Hezia, who runs the "Carpe Diem" web site (www.larafabian.ch/accueil.htm), is currently battling breast cancer. You may remember her as the person who came on-stage to explain to Lara what was going on in the famous "On t'aime" video from Nimes (and we know that Hezia was the person who set up the whole scenario of the audience singing to Lara to cheer her up). People have been writing in to the website forum offering her their encouragement, and it would be nice (and surprising for her) were English speakers to write in as well.
Lara's site still has not officially opened its Spanish section, although it is still there under the appropriate chandelier on the page following the intro. However, it hasn't been updated since last February - it does not include Lara's later messages, nor any indication of the birth of the baby. News of the baby's birth (as succinct as it was in the French and English sections) has also not been posted in the Italian section, which seems to show how much attention Lara is paying to her Italian fans and 'career'. And despite indicating that they would open an English section in September, lara-fabian.net has still not gotten around to it. Both Lara's energy and those of others have shifted away from her music for the time being, and it's not clear when it will become a focus again.
