A statement that would be hard to top for its obviousness: the birth of Lara's child and the machinations that surrounded it were the highlights of the past week.
It is almost humorous that the uncertainty that normally surrounds Lara's creative activities continued right up to the end of this one, too. From what we all now know, Lara entered the hospital on the 15th for monitoring - the very day that Eve had said on the official site was the expected 'due' date (although one of the articles below suggest she was already a week overdue). Apparently this set in motion the false report in the Belgian press that the child was born later that day - which we eventually learned was inaccurate, but not before the report was widely distributed. The actual birth was on the 20th, acknowledged officially several days later. Maurane proved to the only accurate and willing source of information throughout the whole procedure. Hopefully, mother and child are both doing well, although we haven't been told that explicitly.
As we also know by now, the child is named Lou, presumably after Lara's mother Louisa, known as Loulou - hence this is a 'little' Lou. However, this has become generally a more common name in France. Information concerning this name for a girl is given at the following website (thanks to speranza9 on Laradom)
www.linternaute.com/femmes/prenoms/prenom/5354/lou/
The name has grown in usage greatly since 1990, and in 2004 it was the given name for 2300 new births in France. Both the opinion of the general public and of those whose name is Lou has been highly favorable concerning it.
The (corrected) report of the birth was carried by numerous publications. Here are some translations (thanks to people on Hezia's site and Paula in another thread for the sites):

A little Lou.
A small visit on the official site and you will be sure: Lara Fabian is finally a mother…At the end of last week, the Belgian press announced Lara Fabian's delivery but it was misinformation! The singer had in reality entered the Edith Cavell hospital in Brussels only to undergo monitoring. On her site the French variety singer then wrote simply: "We are happy to announce to you that the little Lou was born the 20th of November 2007". Rather succinct, but at least it is certain. At 37 years old, Lara Fabian gave birth to her first child the fruit of her love with her companion of long standing, the director Gerard Pullicino.
Henceforth, only a new album is missing!

And Not Last Week!
We announced to you last week the birth of the baby daughter of Lara Fabian, but it was misinformation. The info was provided by the Belgian press but it wasn't correct. Today we learn on the personal web site of the star that the baby girl was really born the 20th of November and that her first name is Lou. Last week Lara was brought back to the hospital only for monitoring.
All our felicitations to the mother and welcome to the little Lou.

When a Belgian newspaper announced the birth of the small girl of Lara Fabian last Thursday, the rumor had only been blown up. Oh well, Lara Fabian is a mum only since Tuesday, November 20th!
Lara was at term for about two weeks, the baby was late in popping her head out.
Entering the Edith Cavell hospital in Brussels last week for a monitoring, malicious gossip had announced the birth of Lara's girl before even an official announcement.
Maurane had then refuted this news on her official forum.
The upshot: the baby Lou was born on Tuesday, November 20th and Lara Fabian is therefore finally a mother. We wish them, the two of them and the papa Gérard Pullicino, all the happiness in the world.

We can't leave this subject unfortunately without commenting one last time on the abysmal performance of Lara's team throughout this whole affair. Could they have handled it any worse? What was the point of not correcting the initial misinformation concerning the date of birth, so that it 'gained legs' and went around the world? Some people suggested it was to make the press look bad. If so, that certainly worked, but the lack of confirmation of the birth for days after it had apparently taken place made it appear as if something had gone wrong. Lara's closest fans were getting quite upset - the very people whom Lara professes to love. Instead of calming them with a simple explanation, Eve on the official site just told them they were being hysterical and suppressed all the messages. It took Maurane to make the correction, 4 days later. Even the birth itself was announced by Maurane (which solidified her reputation as the only one telling the truth), and it took two full days for the official site to acknowledge it (as succinctly as possible). There may have been medical issues we don't know about that were paralyzing them from responding - but more likely, it was simply ineptitude on their part.
Whether Lara and her team like it or not, Lara is a public figure, with responsibilities to her public, and leaving them out on the limb is the antithesis of what she claims she feels for them. Yet time and again we see this happen. One can't put too much of the auspices on Lara for this latest situation, as she had other concerns - but this is the team she has assembled, and it is hurting her, with the press and with her fans. Perhaps one moral here is: never put your father in a position of authority, for it is impossible to fire him.
In other news, [from laetitia9 on the official site], last Monday on a television special celebrating the Belgian tennis star Justine Henin, Lara left a telephone message praising her and (in effect) apologizing for not being able to be present on stage in support of her (Maurane was there). A number of fans wrote in to the official site saying that they felt the two women were very much alike in all their good qualities. A recording of the phone call along with some stock footage is available on Nabbox (thanks to Rochlara, and to Paula for the following link):

As to the coming week, we don't know whether Lara and the child have yet gone home - the tendency in the states is to remove people from the hospital as quickly as possible. Nevertheless, with this wonderful, climactic period in Lara's life out of the way, one imagines that the child and Lara's interactions with it will recede into the 'private life' category as they should, except perhaps for a photo here and there. It will be interesting to see how motivated Lara is to be 'out and about' now that she has this very interesting 'diversion' to take care of, play with, and love.
