As of this moment, there has been no word about the birth of the child. However, several items in the press this week related to it, directly or indirectly.
Lara appeared in the publication 'Gala' with a photo and a note saying she is expecting her first child. The article was more general, concerning a number of artists who are expecting their first child. The small picture is available in the thread at

On a more substantive note, Lara apparently felt compelled, for the sake of her reputation, to exercise her right to respond to the article in Voici concerning the baby gift. Here is the translation of her official reply, which appeared in Voici of 11/5:

Last October 8, on page 22 of number 1039, the magazine Voici published an article entitled "Lara Fabian for her baby, send her some cash" in which I was made to seem a vile and self-interested person who didn't want either pajamas or security blankets. Just some cash…and who had no confidence in her fans as to their choice of gifts.
I have to explain to the writers of Voici that a number of my fans had wanted to know how they could send me a baby gift and if I had deposited a list someplace to this effect. In the face of their insistence, I asked the responsible person of my fan club to respond to them that I had effectively deposited a birth list in a Paris store but I preferred, considering the price of the selected articles and my worry not to see my fans being ruined, that they participate in their purchase in the measure of their means rather than to choose one of the costly presents appearing on the list. My choice to use this technique - incidentally current - did not exclude of course that my fans send me a present 'outside the list', more personal, which touched me just as much.
I also want to add that the terms of the electronic mail which was addressed to them and notably the expression 'donations ' as well as the invitation to send me some 'cash' (reproduced by Voici) results from a clumsy initiative on behalf of the representative for my fan club on the Internet, that she herself having written this electronic mail, did not solicit my consent before sending it and besides I would not have accepted it so much these terms translate neither my will, nor my frame of mind. This is moreover explained in a correction that appeared on my Internet site, www.lara-fabian.fr.

As one can see, Lara's response was an explanation, not an apology. In her mind, the intent was correct, it was just the execution that was faulty, and that wasn't her fault, but Eve's. Lara's fans, at least those who commented on it, indicated pride in Lara that she responded to what they (and Lara) consider another example of the misunderstanding Lara suffers at the hands of the press, abetted in this case by the actions of her employee.
We will never know what it was that Lara really meant the response to the fans to say, but Lara's father's statement on the official site, said, in effect, that some people aren't going to like this but that's the way it is. One would guess that they really were asking for money rather than other gifts, and that Eve didn't come up with that by herself. Obviously it could have been handled better - not only the 'donations' and 'cash' aspects that Lara commented on, but also the comment in the email that they would use it to buy a 'better' present than the fans would have gotten by themselves. Their idea of combining the contributions from different people to purchase a more expensive, communal gift, is not necessarily a bad one, but it has to be presented sensitively - and we know sensitivity is not a strong point of Lara's people. As it was stated, it implied a lack of respect for the fan's judgment - but in a way, so did the very idea to begin with. Ultimately, the responsibility for this is Lara's, and while her explanation may clarify her view of the situation to the general public, it may seem like she is just trying to shift responsibility for a bad idea onto someone else
Politicians have learned over and over again, that explanations combined with contriteness and the acceptance of responsibility are what is necessary to defuse such situations, regardless of the truth of the matter. Lara has never seemed to appreciate that.
On an unrelated topic, Lara appeared in the publication "Télé Loisir" this week giving her reminiscences about Grégory Lemarchal. A scan of the article is available on the web. Here in translation are her typically beautiful and poetic sentiments:
"I was moved by Grégory, and that has nothing to do with his illness. It was simply, pure, particularly luminous. It seemed to me that we were familiar. He was a true artist, carried by the passion and the love of music. We communicated often by SMS to evade going out together and really said to each other everything at any time. I remember a long discussion, late one evening in Rome. His questions were more spiritual than technique. I was not surprised by the reaction to his departure. It proves that there are people still, in this world which is bedecked with a very sinister dress, who can be touched by something as strong as that which transported Grégory."
Fans expressed surprise at the closeness of the relationship implied by Lara's remarks. While we have no reason to doubt her words, there is the suspicion that some people are feigning closeness with Grégory to capitalize on his current popularity. As to what is know publicly, we do have Lara's performance with Grégory on the Star Academy 5th anniversary show, as well as the video of Lara going backstage to see him. Perhaps even more telling is Lara's absence from the show dedicated to Grégory after his death. She explained that later by saying she preferred to memorialize him in her own way, privately, something one might want to do when losing a very close friend.
This coming week encompasses the time period that Eve on the official site indicated Lara should be giving birth. Here's hoping, once again, that all goes well for mother and daughter. It really goes without saying, but Lara's interactions with the press, for good or bad, pale in comparison to the magnitude of this coming event.
