Gregory Lemarchal passed away yesterday from cystic fibrosis. You may remember him from the duet he sang with Lara (Un Ave Maria) on the Star Academy 2004 show, and how kind she was to him. He in turn praised that kindness and her generosity whenever he got a chance.
A message from Lara's father on the website reads (in translation):
Lara and all of us are in shock at Greg's passing. An angel has left. He rests in peace. One more time: SEIZE THE DAY (CARPE DIEM): take in all with your senses.
The Star Academy will have a special show Friday evening on TF1 in his honor. Lara presumably will not be there, for that's the date of her concert in Portugal, but perhaps she will appear pre-recorded.
May he truly rest in peace.
David

Only 24 years old. That is very sad indeed. Lara's father put the right touch on the website. It seems like from what you are saying, David, that Gregory truly "seized the day and took in with all his senses" the kindness and generosity that Lara bestowed on him in such a short life. Please keep us posted as to whether Lara makes any kind of public statement during The Star Academy on Friday. Anything she would say would surely be to the benefit of us all!

Paula had made a post about this in the "Off Topic" board earlier, and I include what she wrote here: It appears to me (if I am translating the French correctly) that Grégory Lemarchal has died from a long time disease today April 30.

Lara is now officially listed as one of the participants in Friday night's homage to Greg. Since her concert in Lisbon is (actually) Saturday night, it's not clear whether she'll be there live, on remote, or on tape.

I am gladdened to learn that Lara is now listed as a participant, whether it be live or by recording. Lara takes things seriously, and leaves a profound impression wherever she goes and whatever she does, so I am sure this will be done well. It will be interesting to find out what she chooses to say or sing (or both).

This is very sad. Everything I've heard about him, points to him being a very special man. It's sad to lose someone like that that young.
I'm glad that Lara will be participating in the tribute. I very much look forward to it.
