This past week saw Lara appear several times in public. In addition, answers were provided to several questions concerning her short-term plans.
On Tuesday, Lara was present at the launching of the first album of Marc-André Fortin at the Théâtre St-Denis II in Montréal (although she missed his appearance at the beginning because of parking problems - funny how that affects all of us!). The following day the Journal of Montreal wrote an article about the event, in which Lara described how she fell for him (musically) after hearing his voice from backstage at the concert for Sainte-Justine hospital on Rythme Fm radio in Laval. On his part, he said she advised him how important it was to be sincere, and said he was overwhelmed that she would attend his opening. He said that for him there was "Celine and Lara", and that they were "equal in his eyes".
Also on the 18th, Lara's interview on TQS recorded some time ago was finally broadcast. In it she discusses her upcoming concert, the future theatre plans (where again she says she will be playing a person who was important historically), and provides her standard response to critics - that they can dislike her music or her singing, but have no cause to make personal comments about her when they don't know her. Hard to argue with that. Several people from France noted (again) that her interviews in Canada are much more informative and intelligent than those that take place in France [interviews of big stars in the U.S. are a lot more like those in France, probably because the pressure of financial interests limit what people feel they can ask or say]. Video(s) of this are available on the web.
Lara is apparently being true to her word concerning the immediacy of her upcoming international trips. Right after her Canadian concert this weekend, she will go to Portugal for a concert May 5, at the same hall she visited when promoting "A Wonderful Life" in 2004. The price is steep, 150 Euros, although it includes both dinner and the concert. Concerning the Russian concerts, three are now planned, although no dates have been given as yet (presumably they will be in June).
On May 28, Lara and Gigi D'Alessio will release to the French market a new single of 'Un Cuore Malato', with one side half French and half Italian (called "Un Coeur Blessé") and the other side all in Italian (presumably the same version being promoted in Italy). It can be ordered on FNAC, at

The reason for this is now clear: Lara's push for the Italian market will be mirrored by Gigi's bid for the French market. He will release his album "Made in Italy" in France that same day. As pointed out by fans on the official site, in the latest version of 'Farfallina', Lara is shown with Gigi as she teaches him the phonetic sounds of the French words. Despite that effort, presumably this will be somewhat like "La Donna Che Vorrei" on 'URN', with Lara singing the French and Gigi the Italian. Although Gigi's album in Italy is marketed by Sony/BMG, in France it (and the single) will be released by ULM (Universal International), which suggests that Lara now has an affiliation with them as well (and may then be the company that releases her Italian album). Lara indicates (in Farfallina) that there is already a Spanish version of the song, and several fans remember her referring to an English version also. In Italy, after 24 weeks on the chart, Gigi's album jumped from 44 to 14 this last week - undoubtedly Lara's influence with the airplay of Un Cuore Malato (although the single apparently is still almost impossible to find in record stores).
For this coming week, there is the possibility that Lara will be on the show "Mirastar 2007" being broadcast tonight from 1800-2200. The big news however concerns her concerts in Montreal Friday and Saturday to mark the re-opening of the Olympia Theatre; perhaps I'll see some of you there. Depending on timing, next week's News Update may be delayed for a day. A separate post will be established for those who want to give their impressions of the event.
