The news this week was largely encapsulated in the new message Lara put on her official website. Oddly it hasn't yet been translated into English, although one assumes that will eventually happen. If it doesn't, I (or someone else) can provide a translation here. As usual, the information given does not really paint a clear picture of her coming plans.
It turns out that after leaving the NOTP tour, Lara did go back to Canada "for a rest", which makes it seem that she now seriously considers this her 'home', at least for part of the year. She will be there through the end of April, for her two concerts.
Following that, she was scheduled to go to Nepal, with the AMTM charity. News had spread this past week that she was canceling this trip for 'professional reasons'. Comments about the cancellation on the official site included some condemnations, and led to the topic being 'closed'. Perhaps the timing of Lara's new message was in response to that, for she starts out by saying that these rumors are 'unhappily true'. She indicates that her appearance at the San Remo festival in Italy had generated such a buzz that she now had to take advantage of it, and could not sacrifice the time in May. She then says she will go on their next trip, and see the progress that has been made.
Instead, she has scheduled more television engagements with Gigi, and above all has to devote her energy to "writing for the album". She says that takes her "from Rome to Los Angeles from here" the end of June. Part of this is clear, and part is confusing, made more so by the information provided on lara-fabian.net. This site, which in the past seems to have had somewhat reliable information, says Lara will go to Los Angeles to "record with some great and talented composers her new multi-lingual album to appear in 2008/2009". One would have thought that her efforts in May would be focused on what is necessary for the release of the Italian album, still nominally scheduled for June.
Furthermore, she says that in the next weeks, she will prepare the show in Montreal, then she will leave for Portugal, Russia, Turkey and Algeria for "some other scenic adventures". The timing of these trips is again somewhat muddled; lara-fabian.net says they will take place at the end of 2007/beginning of 2008, which would make more sense if Lara has to be around in May for the Italian promotion. However, she has gone to Russia in June the last two years, and lara-fabian.net already lists the Russian concerts in the 'Theatre of the Kremlin' as up-coming, although it doesn't give specific dates. The radio program "Rock Détente" in Quebec has started a contest in which one can win tickets to see Lara in Moscow, presumably in June. So at least this portion of the 'foreign tour' would seem to be more immediate.
Lara also mentions that she's been listening to the work of Eric Serra, with whom she is "surely going to be doing something in June…information to follow".
We also know that Lara has her theatre engagement up-coming, with rehearsals expected to start in July. During the past week a report on the program 'Max de Services' on Direct8 indicated that Lara was no longer going to be in the show scheduled to open in the fall. It said that the theatrical production was "The Vagina Monologues", which is sometimes performed as a one-person show and sometimes with multiple actors. The report said that Lara had demanded it be a solo performance and the producers had refused, favoring a three-person engagement (with one of the sponsors being one of the actresses). Dropping this would certainly free up her time; however, in her own message, which is dated April 12 (three days after the program on Direct8), Lara indicates that, on "the comedy line" she is "still preparing for her entry into the theatre". That doesn't sound like she has dropped out of a show, and "The Vagina Monologues" has been described as many things but not usually as a comedy (I've seen it, and while there is an element of humor, it is certainly not a comedy).
In other news, concerning Lara's single releases: Lara also indicates that the single (presumably "Un Cuore Malato) will be released in France…but for what reason (and in what language) is unclear. Her specific comment in association with that (speaking to what she imagines is a French audience) is "we will see each other again a little…" which may refer to the appearances in France now scheduled for May and June that were discussed in the last update. In Italy, the single is apparently hard to find in stores, although some people did get it; it is now listed as No. 5 on the Radio Europe charts. On another front, 'Sebxl' on the official site, indicates that the single of "Aime" (now out for 14 weeks) is slowly falling in the Belgian charts, but is still at number 22 (another report some weeks ago had it a lot further down in the French listings).
Finally, Rick Allison has counter-sued Lara, claiming that for a variety of reasons she owes him $570,000. He lists all sorts of grievances, but it really seems to come down to him feeling that she hasn't given him enough credit (and not only monetarily) for what they accomplished together. Sad - one hopes that they can get past this.
While we may not know where Lara will be for the rest of the year, she will almost certainly be in Montreal in the near future, setting up for one last reprise of the "Un Regard Neuf" tour at the Olympia Theatre in two weeks.
