Lara's breathtaking journey through the Quebec media began this past Friday with multiple appearances.
- On Friday she was on the show "L'heure de Montréal" where she was greeted quite enthusiastically by the host, and sang a fine version of "Aime". The video is available on the web.
-Also on Friday she was present in Laval, Quebec for the program "Le Grand Spectacle Rythme FM". She sang "Angel" and "Aime" and was apparently very moved at her reception from the audience on this return to Canada. As indicated by the "Dentist" on the official site, Lara told the audience that she knew this enthusiasm was not going to last forever, that it was just because she "had been away for so long, and people wanted to make sure she was o.k". Presumably (hopefully) the show will be broadcast on Rythme FM at some point.
- And again on Friday, Lara was interviewed on the program 'Flash' on TQS. The video is available on the web.
- On Saturday, in an interview for the program "Carte Blanche" with Sonia Benezra, Lara indicated that the Italian album would be composed of new songs, since she was not able to get the rights to redo some of the old songs in Italian (so I guess once more we can thank Rick Allison for new Lara songs!). Included will be a song she is composing called "Le 5ème elémént" ("The Fifth Element") which she says is 'love' (following earth, air, fire and water). (Also, presumably, it will be in Italian!).
- The interest in what happened to "A Wonderful Life" surfaced, as it is more likely to do when Lara is in Canada, given the proximity of the U.S. Lara did indicate that the first English album had sold close to 3 million copies world-wide.
-In the same interview, Sonia noted that Lara had a lot of fans in Israel, and Lara sang some words in Hebrew from the song "Hurshat Ha Eucalyptus". The audio is available on the web.
So far, the major thrust of these shows has been that Lara has returned to Quebec (even if only part-time) and that she has a show at the Olympia of Montreal in April. I may be only imagining it, but I detect a bit of confusion on the part of the hosts as to why this media blitz is occurring at this time. Practically speaking, Lara's being there to open up her new home has made this time available, and clearly she will be busy elsewhere for the next month or more, so probably she is just taking the opportunity.
Lara wasn't completely absent from the French media this past week, as a promo for her appearance on the 'Night of the Proms' tour in March was played on St. Valentine's day. This video too is available on the web.
It's been announced that Lara's trip to Nepal will be for more than just musical activities, as she will apparently participate in the medical and humanitarian assistance being provided by the AMTM charity. It is planned that she will be in Katmandou from May 7-20, assuming that the political situation is sufficiently stable.
At least 12 more appearances are scheduled on Canadian radio and TV, while 4 press interviews should be published in the next week before Lara leaves for the San Remo festival in Italy.
