A return to France for Lara, and the beginning of the promo for "Un Regard Neuf".
Lara was in Toulouse on Wednesday the 13th for a recording of the program "Les Maîtres Chanteurs" on Sud Radio. According to those present at the taping, she sang three songs (la lettre , l'hqnpdm , and aime). As indicated by the choice of songs, this is the beginning of her promotion for the new live album. She also answered some searing questions from the interviewer, who was described as "wanting to find out who is the real Lara". Questions included what her reaction was to the strong criticism she has received. Lara's response was that she found it very hurtful, and although criticism does help you learn, it should be directed at the music, not the person. Throughout the interview, Lara was apparently very self-assured and strong. It will be broadcast next weekend. [Given the restrictions that some web sites are placing on anything associated with 'aime', it will be interesting to see if audio recordings of this appearance are available on the web.]
At this interview, Lara spoke about her new DVD called (in translation) "Sing with Lara Fabian", advertised as an interactive 'learn to sing' exercise. (This may be the project she has mentioned in several recent interviews that is 'unrelated to her songs'.) She said she felt real pleasure at being able to help children in this way. The reaction on the websites has been less positive - ranging from the opinion that this is just a way to make money, to the fact that an artist of this stature should never demean herself in such a commercial popular venture (e.g., would Barbra Streisand do this?). I find these criticisms entirely off-base: we all know that Lara does not hold herself above others, that she does not go out of her way for commercial ventures (if anything, just the opposite), that she's very outgoing, clearly wants to help children, and loves singing. She's long been active helping fledgling singers at the Star Academy, why not start earlier? It will be available later this fall for the Christmas season.
Speaking of the new live album, it will be released in Quebec as well at some upcoming date, as noted on the official site. The presumption (or hope) is that it will include the DVD in NTSC format but that is not specifically stated.
Appearances are lining up to support the coming release, but not without the usual warning (i.e., nothing is certain until it happens). On Sept. 20, Lara is supposed to record for the program "Viva Italia" for RTL TV1 (Belgian TV), however, there is an indication on several websites that she has cancelled this appearance. Her father, when asked directly, refused to confirm that, and said the decision would be posted on the official site. [Given her enthusiasm for all things Italian, it would seem to be a bit odd if she does drop out. However, it is possible that she had never been asked about it before they announced her.] She is still scheduled to be present at the recording of the Symphonic Show, the 80 year Special, for French TV2 on Sept. 21; it is presumed she will sing 'Aime'. In addition, numerous appearances are already scheduled for October and November, indicating it will be a busy time for Lara in France.
Also on the official site is the note that Lara is preparing a duet with the Italian singer Gigi d'Alesio, entitled 'Cuore malato'. As noted in the last update, it is apparently to be in three different languages (French, Spanish, Italian), and will appear on Gigi's new album, scheduled for an October 27 release. So far this is the only hint of any activity that even touches on the Italian market. There is nothing yet listed to support the new Italian single, which is still indicated on the official site as coming out in September (though her most recent statements indicate the multilingual/Italian (?) album itself will not be released until next year).
On Sept. 25, Lara and Lionel Ritchie are supposed to be the hosts of the 21st "Ceremony of the Stars of Chérie Fm" taking place at the Olympia in Paris. It will be broadcast on the radio station, which is available over the web. However, that same evening Lara is giving a concert at the Casino de Paris, a piano-voice gig for the association AMTM dealing with children of Tibet and Nepal. So how is this going to work? If she comes just at the end, how can she really be the 'godmother' of the Chérie Fm show? This conflict has been known about for weeks, and Lara's father was asked about it on the official site. His vague reply was that the information would be put on the official site as soon as its confirmed (note the similarity to his previous answer!). Lara's life often gives the appearance of a 'stream of consciousness' approach. This coming week, then, will feature more or fewer appearances, depending on decisions still yet to be made or announced.
