The main news this past week was of course Lara’s duet with Florent Pagny on TF1. Lara posted several Instagram reels concerning the event, first associated with the TV show, at
with the comment, “Waiting to meet you tonight at 9 pm on @tf1 for a duet alongside my @pagny_officiel, I bring you with me behind the scenes of the set... 🎤🎶🎅🏻”
And then for the album recording, at
with the caption, “Instant captured in the studio for the recording of the title "Et maintenant" shared in duet with @pagny_officiel to be found in his new album "2 Bis"”
🎤🎶🫶🏻
The album recording of the song itself can be heard at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDRULWz4WB8
A video of the actual TF1 performance was provided by the Lara Fabian Family FB site at
www.facebook.com/reel/3499638343611869
The audio of that recording got its own separate youtube posting, at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-IfLxS_rps
It can be compared with the audio from the record, and one can note that there are, understandably, some differences, although they follow the same general pattern.
We can also compare the current performance with their older duet, available at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mi0E0pLLxf0
[and in recorded audio at www.youtube.com/watch?v=6E_mRH9ub70]
My opinion is that this current live performance was pretty similar in many of the particulars to the older one. Both singers have done a good job in maintaining their voices over the years; Lara is no surprise, but given that Florent Pagny was recovering from lung cancer, and, as we learned, had broken ribs as well, his performance was truly remarkable. It would be remiss not to note that Lara’s performance was not universally well received (see, for example, the comments associated with the picture of the two of them in the ‘interesting pictures’ link provided below). There can, however, be no quarreling with Lara’s performance of the version on the new album, which of course is the one ‘of record’ [pun intended ].
And with that in mind, here’s an article from the J. of Montreal (https://www.journaldemontreal.com/2023/08/30/une-chanson-en-duo-pour-lara-fabian-et-florent-pagny):
------------------
Here is the new song by Lara Fabian and Florent Pagny (and their interpretation is moving)
Lara Fabian is one of the 20 stars of French song who will sing a duet with Florent Pagny on the latter's new album; baptized 2 Bis, its release is scheduled for September 1st .
The short video clip posted on Lara Fabian's Instagram account is moving. We see the singer in the company of her friend Florent Pagny interpreting ‘Et maintenant’ in the studio while laughing and taking with each other in their arms.
“What a joy to have once again mixed my voice with that of Florent Pagny. Thank you, my Florent for this moment of sharing and all my best wishes for the release of your new album 2 Bis . Sincerely happy to be there by your side", wrote Lara Fabian as a description of the touching video.
Florent Pagny, 61, revealed that he had lung cancer in January 2022. He had to undergo six months of chemotherapy. He experienced a recurrence in March 2023 after stopping his immunotherapy treatment along the way, confident he would recover. That's why we see the artist without hair in the video published by his friend Lara Fabian on Tuesday.
Last February, Florent Pagny shared a photo of himself in Corsica with his "singing comrades" Patrick Bruel, Jean-Charles Papi and Patrick Fiori on Instagram with the words "chemo started but life goes on".
The singer was a coach on the show The Voice: La Plus Belle Voix in France from 2012 to 2018 and from 2021 to 2022.
----------------------------------
Finally, it seems worthwhile to note the lyrics for Et maintenant:
And Now
by Gilbert Becaud
And now what am I going to do
with the rest of my life
with all the people that I don’t care about.
Now, that you are gone.
All the nights…for what, for whom
and this morning returns for nothing
This heart which beats, for whom, for what
Which beats too strong, too strong
And now, what am I going to do
To what nothingness will my life slide
You left me the entire world
But the world without you is small
You my friends, be kind
You know well that nothing can be done.
Even Paris is dying of boredom
All its streets are killing me!
And now, what am I going to do
I’ll laugh to stop crying
I'm going to burn up all these nights
In the morning, I will hate you.
And then one evening in my mirror
I will see the end of the road
Not flowers and no tears.
At the moment of farewell.
I really have nothing left to do
I really have nothing left
---------------------------------
While this is about the end of life as occasioned by the leaving of a loved one, it may well have had special meaning for Florent Pagny given his recent health issue.
In other news, with respect to the comment from last week’s Update, Lara it turns out was on the Josee Lavigueur show (https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?ref=watch_permalink&v=1601483277045455), at the 1:42:50 mark - thanks to the Lara Fabian The Netherlands FB site for the timing. They also provided a picture from it, at
www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=803998648400194&set=a.147591376786267;
The woman is Lara’s fitness coach, and Lara provided a testimonial for her fitness program.
In one of the more out-of-the-way news items, there’s this (https://sport.tunisienumerique.com/us-open-sidi-mansour-eminem-lara-fabian-la-playlist-dons-jabeur-est-la-video/):
--------------------------------
US Open : Sidi Mansour, Eminem, Lara Fabian … the playlist of Jabeur is here
“In parallel to the US Open 2023, fans of Tunisian tennis woman Ons Jabeur discovered her musical playlist and the songs that motivate her and those that make her dance too. Here's the video with Eurosport (here).”
-------------------------------
In the video when asked about her favorite love song, it was, of course, “Je t’aime”.
Interesting photo(s)/video(s) of the week:

www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=841628060665330&set=a.216252733202869
And, more broadly, the Lara Fabian The Netherlands FB site put together various pictures of Lara’s interactions with Florent Pagny, past and present, at
www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=806942231439169&set=pcb.806944391438953
Obviously he changed more than she did (though she has changed as well); chemotherapy will do that.
There is a wonderful profile picture of Lara, from the Lara Fabian Family FB site,
www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=260663503512924&set=a.119466624299280
And another from the Lara Fabian America FB site,
www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=718928963580165&set=a.427157892757275
As one can tell from sites with photos of Lara (e.g., www.last.fm/music/Lara+Fabian/+images?page=1, or her own Instagram site), Lara seems to prefer (posed) profile pictures taken from her left side.
Lara’s next public appearance is at the birthday celebration for Gheorghe Zamfir, on Sept. 15 in Bucharest. Unlike this past pre-recorded TV show from last June, for this event Lara will actually be there, as a special guest. Hopefully the shows organizers will allow the dispersion of videos from the show more leniently than does TF1 in France.
