Several weeks ago Giora Linenberg announced that he would be joining Lara at an event in Bucharest in mid-September. This past week Lara put that event in perspective, at
with her caption, “I’m happy to sing as a special guest for @gheorghezamfirofficial birthday concert on September 15, 2023 in Bucharest. So honored to share the stage with @josecarrerastenor and other talented artists.”
As we know from Giora’s post, the other singers on the program are Laura Bretan; Jose Carreras; Jose Carrers the legendary tenor; David Gimenez; Gheorghe Zamfir; Nicoleta Zamfir; Monica Radu; Paul Nanca.
Another poster, copied from Lara’s Instagram story by the Lara Fabian Family site (among others), shows who the three stars of this program are

where they also note that “the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, under the alternate direction of directors David Gimenez, Daniel Jinga and Giora Linenberg, will accompany the soloists.
As to whom Gheorghe Zamfir is: from Wikipedia, “Gheorghe Zamfir is a Romanian nai musician. Zamfir is known for playing an expanded version of normally 20-pipe nai, with 22, 25, 28 or even 30 pipes, to increase its range, and obtaining as many as eight overtones from each pipe by changing his embouchure. He is known as ‘The Master of the Pan Flute’.” He's recognized as one of the greatest flautest of all time. He is 82 years old. And while September 15 is his ‘official birthday concert’, he was actually born on April 6 (1941) – shades of Igor Krutoi, who celebrated his 60th birthday in just about every month of the year .
So this is not the only festival date celebrating Gheorghe Zamfir; another one occurred this past week, as made clear in an article at (https://www.romania-actualitati.ro/stiri/cultura/festivalul-international-de-nai-gheorghe-zamfir-la-gaesti-id181292.html).
In other news, Lara’s worldwide reach never stops being surprising; in this instance it’s that her album ‘Carpe Diem’ is #43 on the itunes charts in Niger (!).
The Lara Fabian Coeur de Lumiere FB site noted that there have now started appearing AI-created versions of Lara singing different songs; generally they have an AI next to it. They give the example of Lara Fabian – T’en Va Pas (AI), which in six days had 1,100 views. Their comment was “Let's protect the art of our artists by not listening to these audios, which are also bad, and which make money for schemers while putting the artist at a disadvantage.” At the very least, we should be aware that they are not authentic. It’s effectively on a par with some other (often amateur) performer doing a cover of one of Lara’s songs, while copying her vocal mannerisms. Apart from any curiosity one might have concerning just what an AI is capable of doing, there’s little reason to listen to work that clearly won’t have the same inherent quality, novelty or creativity.
Interesting photo(s)/video(s) of the week: from the Lara Fabian Family FB site, a striking picture of Lara,

The Lara Fabian The Netherlands FB site linked to a youtube video investigating who is the best vocalist in the world, trying to find objective categorizations that can decide the issue. Lara’s turn in this assessment is shown at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=De4DdC5xI_U
It’s interesting in its own right, but it’s not exactly a revelation to proclaim that there is no objective basis by which one can decide the issue, since so many of the nuances that appeal to various audiences are beyond ‘scoring’. Nevertheless, it’s nice that Lara ‘has a seat at the table’ .
The Lara Fabian America site has various photo albums, and one of them is their ‘cover girl’, featuring magazine covers with Lara’s picture. These can be found at:

Those of you who are aware of any other covers featuring Lara might consider letting that site know of them….
In somewhat the same vein, numerous pictures and some videos of Lara can be found at
www.fanpop.com/clubs/lara-fabian.
Also, many Lara pictures exist at
br.pinterest.com/pin/620230179903597357/
But by far the most pictures to be found involve doing a search for Lara on ‘google’ and choosing images,

Of the many interesting possibilities, one is those that show Lara and Celine Dion (a tandem also relevant to the ‘best vocalist’ competition), here at

As a follow-up to last week’s comment about the smaller number of active Lara fansites, the ones that are most active with the widest amount of material are FB sites. In contrast, Lara has largely abandoned her FB site, reserving it, as an afterthought, for only a few widely scattered posts, even omitting those that one would think she would want to get the largest possible audience (her FB site still has 1.5 million followers). And there’s nothing that gets posted there that doesn’t get posted on her Instagram site, which is now the go-to place for her communications (either long-term, or short term with her stories), despite it having only 1/3 the number of followers. It’s true that her FB site has not grown in followers in the past several years, and some might consider FB passé, but it is still the place where her most active fans help spread the word about her activities. [Obviously this page is biased ].
One more full week in August before September brings Lara some more public events, and presumably an uptake in her professional profile. Hope you all enjoy the remaining days of summer…
