The chief news item this past week concerns Lara more than her fans: she has finally sold her villa, as mentioned in numerous articles, including this one from Gala (https://www.gala.fr/l_actu/news_de_stars/photos-lara-fabian-a-enfin-vendu-sa-magnifique-villa-au-quebec-toutes-les-images_516733):

Lara Fabian has (finally) sold her magnificent villa in Quebec: all the pictures
Put on the market in July 2022, Lara Fabian's sumptuous villa located in southern Quebec was finally sold in March 2023, according to the site "7jours.ca".
A little corner of paradise located in the Eastern Townships, the cradle of viticulture in Quebec. It is in this green setting that singer Lara Fabian settled down a few years ago. However, she decided last July to put the place where she lived with her daughter Lou and her husband up for sale. As reported by the media 7jours.ca , this magnificent villa, ideally located in “a huge eight-acre lot (approximately 3 hectares), including a private lake ‘nestled’ in the heart of the forest of the mountain of Bromont, remote from the side of the road ”, as pointed out by the site of the real estate agency chosen by the singer, was finally sold in March .
As reported by our colleagues, the charming residence was first displayed at $2,999,999, before being sold off at $2,625,000 . However, the exact amount of the sale has not been disclosed. One thing is certain, the buyer will certainly be delighted to be able to put down his boxes in this villa comprising “four bedrooms and two bathrooms, on three floors”, as well as “an independent gym, a workshop and a double garage.” The singer of "Je t’aime", who had decorated the premises with taste, oscillating between modern furniture and warm materials, also gave her successor the opportunity to live in the atmosphere she created: “You can even buy a large part of the furniture for a turnkey solution,” the agency explained.
“There is no way I am moving from Quebec”
Lara Fabian would not intend to leave Quebec. According to our colleagues from 7jours.ca, Junior Bombardier, the star's press officer, indicated that the singer would aim to find a house closer to Montreal. Moreover, for her part, the former director of Star Académie Quebec version had already mentioned her desire to stay in Canada, she who had not agreed to put her suitcases in France at the time of her participation in The Voice, in 2009, as a juror. “It was out of the question for me to move from Quebec, where I have my life, my house, my husband, Gabriel, and where my daughter Lou is educated”, she confided to gala.

If one (once again) wants to see what Lara is giving up, the article included a link to the pictures of the house, at photo.gala.fr/photos-lara-fabian-met-en-vente-sa-sublime-villa-au-quebec-toutes-les-images-50101
A previous article has hinted that she already has a new location in mind. Lara has often said she has a strong peripatetic drive, probably associated with her childhood, in that she has to keep moving, or at least building. In this case, there is undoubtedly a professional advantage as well to being in or closer to Montreal.
If this activity is what has limited Lara’s presence on social media – 4 Instagram and 3 FB posts this calendar year – then that is now concluded. But that’s unlikely…more likely is that Lara has nothing to say to her public at this time, and/or, no real motivation to do so.
Last week it was noted that Lara’s performance of certain songs gets them identified with her, in some cases regardless of whether she was the original singer or writer. Another example of that comes from Hungary, where there is a French singing competition. According to an article at (https://nepszava.hu/3190015_lara-fabian-es-zaz-sem-okozott-gondot), “The audience of the Francophone song contest was able to be a part of a new high-level program, the French Institute has been organizing and hosting the event since 2001, in the finals of which fourteen young people showed their singing and French skills this year. The program organized as part of the Francophone Festival is one of the most renowned French-language music competitions in Hungary, with contestants coming from all over the country. Non-native French speakers living in Hungary between the ages of ten and twenty-five could apply for the competition. It was not mandatory to study French to participate, however, the jury of the French Institute evaluated the singing ability and the performance as well as the pronunciation.”
It continues: ”It is always surprising to hear how clear and skilled high school students can sing. It is almost accepted that girls apply for art and academic competitions in a much higher proportion than boys, but perhaps it is worth noting that only the former made it to Saturday's finals…Following the jury's decision, the first prize went to Míra Velkei, a student at Kölcsey Ferenc High School, who sang Lara Fabian's Je suis malade excellently.”
Another example of this ‘identification with Lara’ is provided below…
Interesting photo(s)/video(s) of the week:
The Lara Fabian America FB site had a wonderful feature, called “Lara with others” which included many photos of Lara with, as stated, colleagues, friends and associates. That included Igor Krutoi, Maurane, Johnny Hallyday, etc., all very high quality. This is definitely a page to bookmark, at
www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.511343929363531&type=3
One wonders how many of the people shown in these photos fans could identify. Generally they are well-known personages, but some are not. The photos are all dated, so maybe that could help…
On a smaller scale but in the same vein, Lara Fabian The Netherlands FB site has some pictures of Lara with Mario Frangoulis, from 2008, at
www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=683227777143949&set=pcb.683228397143887
If Lara appears a bit ‘heavy’ in the photos of the concert of his that she joined, she still had not lost the weight after having given birth to Lou, in November of 2007.
Lara The Ring Fabian posted a ‘best of’ for Lara’s recent tour, available at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlGl2Mmmw5g
Here’s what she says about it: “TIMESTAMPS at the end!
Hi guys. I hope you enjoy this! It took me ages to make but I made it with a lot of love and respect for both you and Lara.
You might notice that on some clips, Lara’s mouth doesn’t exactly match her singing but that’s normal, since I mixed footage from various nights 😊
Enjoy!”
It’s almost two hours long, comes complete with English subtitles, and would serve as a suitable memory of what is most likely to be Lara’s last tour for the foreseeable future. Great job!
As for that other example of ‘identification with Lara’: while the song Caruso hasn’t reached that stage, she is becoming known for it. A perfect example of that is the reaction video posted by an Italian singer/teacher, at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FAtrUh4shk
The ‘reviewer’ noted how she uses her body language to epitomize various components of the song, the purposeful use of her breath to portray the despair of the dying Caruso, her use of emotions in general, and, of course, her wonderful vocalizations, among other things. Also of interest is one of the comments, copied below:

“For those discovering Caruso (obviously not yourself or your Italian audience):
Caruso, is an Italian song, written, composed and performed in 1986 by Lucio Dalla as a tribute to Enrico Caruso, the most famous tenor of his time (late 19th / early 20th century). He was the first global singing superstar.
The story is about the last days of Enrico Caruso, he knows he is dying, and he is remembering all his career on stage and telling his much younger wife how much he loves her.
It has very quickly become a classic of Italia music and the biggest names have covered it (Julio Iglesias, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, …. and of course Luciano Pavarotti).
But for many, Lara's version is the best ever, as she was able, with her unique ability to convey the emotions of a song, to reveal the real sad story written by Lucio Dalla.
I was told that Lucio Dalla himself, after hearing this performance, said that she made it her song and this is the best version he has heard from it.
For Lara, this song is really important as this is a kind of anthem for Italy, and she is so much connected to this country. Her first native language is italian. She spent the first few years of her life there with her Sicilian mother and grandma. Her husband is also Sicilian. She still recurrently spends weeks in her home in Catane, and I believe she is currently there, working on a new musical project.”
-----------------------------
With respect to that last comment: if so, it might explain her extended absence from her public.
Another associated aspect is how popular the “From Lara With Love” concert video, from which this is taken, has become. The PBS show (then also shown in Europe with some additional 30 minutes) was produced by Sony as a promotion for her first English album, and since they didn’t have rights to Lara’s own French songs (owned by Universal), she didn’t sing any of them (at least that were recorded). That forced her to sing songs in other languages (English, French, Spanish), or by other French composers. Many of those have gone on to become classic videos for her, and a treasure trove for ‘reaction videos’, an example of how something negative can lead to something very positive. Sony originally planned to produce a DVD of this concert, and for two years kept listing it on their site – but it was never done (another example of the disfunction between Lara and Sony). Nevertheless, many people have used the youtube versions to make their own DVDs or just enjoy it, e.g.,
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ge_u3gZoRHY [Full concert, including European cuts]
www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjWgPnIVRHo [PBS version]
www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeScO2LDcQ0 [with no talking]
There’s even a reaction video to the full concert,
www.youtube.com/watch?v=O03RE1T-o_g
Taken together, these, and other youtube videos for the full concert, have more than 500K views, and that doesn’t count the youtube videos of many of the individual songs (the video of Adagio from that show, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKtNuLG5jAo), alone has 3.2 million views, Broken Vow (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNVR0yK8Ec8) has 1.2 million, and the various Caruso’s have almost 500,000). This may be Lara’s most famous live concert, in that it has entrained in the non-French speaking world. Yet it does not appear on her discography, audio or video - very strange.
A hearty thank you to those who are putting in the effort to keep Lara’s fans engaged and entertained. Stay safe, everybody,
David
