After the last several very busy weeks, things have calmed down for Lara, at least professionally. There are some left over items from last week’s concerts in Quebec. First some additional videos were uploaded:

Lara Fabian: A long-awaited comeback raises St-Denis
Annie Rochefort
On Friday, October 12, Lara Fabian presented the first of three shows designed exclusively for Quebec stages, at Théâtre St-Denis. Following the release of her thirteenth album Camouflage in October 2017 and her participation in the sixth edition of La Voix, this show was born.
Lara Fabian comes on stage following a musical intro to the shouts and applause of the spectators. Absent for too long Quebec stages, her return was awaited by many fans. It is with Chameleon, piece from her last album that the show officially takes off. Five musicians from Stockholm and two choristers accompany her. She will also be playing Growing Wings, We Are The Flyers, Painting In The Rain, Choose What You Love Most from the same album.
The singer-songwriter did not forget her first successes from Carpe Diem, Je t’aime (sic - from Pure), Saisir le jour, Je suis malade, Si tu m’aimes. There is no lack of choice in her repertoire, she completed her song list by the beautiful song with gospel influences Humana, and La Difference, a nod to Charles Aznavour, who died on 1st October, J'zappe, J’y crois encore, Pas sans toi, Immortelle, I Will Love Again.
Lara has booked surprises for the public by inviting George Perris to sing in duo Tu Es Mon Autre, in tribute to her friend who passed away in May 2018, Maurane. Then she invites him to sing Broken Vow solo. A second surprise awaited the spectators, Felix Lemelin (La Voix) will sing in duet Tu t'en Vas. As a reminder, she performed her latest single written and produced in Quebec, the song Papillon.
The spectators are seduced as soon as they arrive. They applaud her, shout and give ovations repeatedly. They do not hesitate to sing in chorus as soon as Lara holds her microphone out and beat time clapping her hands. During the last two songs of the show, they stay up to dance and sing.
At the entrance of the spectators in the room, a photo of Lara Fabian is projected on the backdrop of the stage. Projections and intensity of lighting change with the rhythm of the songs. The show was presented without intermission, even during Lara's costume changes, musical interludes entertain the audience.
Lara Fabian often expresses how happy she is to be back on the Quebec stage, she takes care to introduce her songs. On the other hand, she confesses to having really gotten nervous before going on stage, in her own words "she was about to liquefy herself". Her interventions with the spectators are frequent and emotional.
I really loved the show. Lara has a powerful voice, of which she has full control, her interpretations are full of emotions. She is really charismatic. Despite her admitting that she was really nervous before the show, she seemed very comfortable throughout her performance.
--------------------------------------------------------
As with the other reviews, very positive.
Lara’s successes are translating into sales. The single has now entered the top 50 on the charts in Quebec at #34, while it has entered as #33 in France (http://www.chartsinfrance.net/charts/1841/singles.php?fbclid=IwAR3Qw6K_SQ9uE21v_BuB0eX4f2zUUsxG3FmgIZrrugmqDpcRdlSJe7EQTkM); it is also #33 for top downloaded songs for the French market in Canada (http://www.snepmusique.com/tops-semaine/top-singles-telecharges/?ye=2018&we=41&fbclid=IwAR2L848XG8tvKtq7uoz_5jfEFOqxWbLVtCeMcRYOPWkRvz62RrP1-I0SxeY). It is #6 for Francophone songs on the Palmares adisq charge (associated with Canadian performers). (https://palmaresadisq.ca/fr/tops-ventes/chansons/) for top songs.
The music video is also doing quite well – it is #1 on the palmares chart (https://palmaresadisq.ca/fr/videos/plus-regardees/?fbclid=IwAR1nKYTmMKApnMlT7HHCPBoz6xFI_U_3662EYdgJ-0vd5vg1QwF6gOfYi8c). Lara herself noted that there were many views of the ‘Papillon’ video on youtube – when she wrote about it there were more than 400,000, and now there are more than 700,000, in just three weeks. Note that Growing Wings, out now for some 14 months, has 1.8 million views, so it will be interesting to see how they ultimately compare.
Musicor was so happy with the Lara's Quebec performances and their reception that they posted the following (thanks to Nicolas Boucauld for the link):
“Lara Fabian triumphed in Montreal and Quebec City in front of 11,000 people! So that you can find the success of these three memorable performances, we offer an exclusive playlist on Spotify, bringing together all the pieces in their original versions. You can find it at:
musicor.lnk.to/LaraFabianLaPlaylistDuSpectacleMF
On that playlist, they provide the songs from the original albums. It’s instructive to review those contributions: there are 5 songs from Carpe Diem, 4 songs from Pure, 2 songs from Lara Fabian (English) – including George Perris’ performance of Broken Vow – three from Nue, 5 from Camouflage, and the one from Papillon. Lara did say she wanted to present songs from her earlier time in Quebec, but other than those many songs from Carpe Diem, it’s not all that different from what her normal concerts look like – with very little from 2004 onward, except for the latest album.
So while the single and thus new album have gotten off to a great start, we shall have to see how high it can really go, or, in other words, whether Lara’s devoted fans, and any new ones, will really rally around the ‘electro pop’ rhythms that this new album apparently will have. They did not do so for those in Camouflage, though obviously it had the additional burden of being in English. At all Lara’s concerts, as noted in one or two of the articles, it is always the emotional ballads from the past of Lara's that get the most enthusiastic response. Lara is firm in believing she has to be ‘up-to-date’ musically, to adapt to the times; we’ll see if, now in French, she can carry her fans into that 'present’ as well.
In somewhat related news, Lara posted the following on her Instagram page ((
“Many of you asked me where I bought my clothes during my last series of concerts in Quebec. So here it is: see you at "Montagne" at 2125 Montagne Street, in Montreal -> www.facebook.com/Montagne-1816746651902327/, and ask to talk to Denise or Fernanda. They will take care of you and you will feel the most beautiful in the world.”
The accompanying picture shows Lara in concert, although that’s probably not exactly the costume they had in mind.
Two of Lara’s associates/friends who passed on in the last year were in the news this week. Lara posted on her FB site a link to a video of Maurane’s new album “Brel”:
www.facebook.com/mauraneofficiel/videos/187350935517889/
As you probably know, it was finished after her death earlier this year by her daughter Lou and her chief recording engineer. The fragments presented actually sound wonderful; it would be no surprise is this becomes a very big seller.
And on French TV there was an interview with Lara concerning her duet with Johnny Hallyday on ‘Requiem pour un fou’:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Psrb7zFugjw&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR2XlAF658AACDKk_Bj07rHdlhzAfaYaR9rpN85REGW1Hynn04pTt-GR31Q
As she has elsewhere, Lara discusses his generosity toward her.
Interesting photo of the week: A picture of a ‘quite young’ Lara, from the magazine Echos Vedettes:
www.facebook.com/EchosVedettes/photos/a.459152041977/10157822719941978/?type=3&theater
Again, there are no public appearances on the official calendar, and until we hear differently, that would seem to be the case for the foreseeable future. Given the TVA ‘machine’ we doubt Lara will be without some promotional ventures, for La Voix if nothing else. Lara has indicated in several of the articles that she’s interested in opening up her schools for singers, and she mentioned one in Belgium and one in Quebec (presumably Brussels and Montreal); perhaps she’ll get started on that.
