As you may well know by now, the big news this past week concerned the “breaking of the dam” on information about the new album and the first single. Lara posted on her website the news about the new single, and the new album, both of which are called “Papillon” [“Butterfly”]. The single will be available on all the standard sites (iTunes, Spotify, etc.) on October 5th:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.338665829508254/2303603603014457/?type=3&theater
Lara has been marking the countdown to that date. For example on Thursday the 27th she wrote J (Jours) – 7 [although it was really J-8], along with the picture:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359/2303606766347474/?type=3&theater
As we had been told, Lara had indeed suggested this song title at the beginning of the month, when she revisited the picture of herself holding a butterfly, taken from the album “Nue”, with the caption, “an old photo…a butterfly, ready to take flight”.
Not that it gets a whole lot of attention, but somebody even thought to update Lara’s URL, www.larafabian.com, to include this information, though no more is provided.
A music video will be released at about the same time as the single. Since it was seemingly shot in mid-September [remember Lara’s asking people to guess what the pictured ‘Steadicam’ was being used for, www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.622966977744803/2277742122267272/?type=3&theater], it implies a very rapid turnaround. One suspects therefore that it’s a pretty straightforward location shot [i.e., we know it wasn’t taken in Iceland!, as was the case for the ‘Camouflage’ music videos].
On her website yesterday, she released another beautiful picture of herself, at
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.622966977744803/2309728352401982/?type=3&theater
with the caption, “Day-4 for the single and the clip of Papillon”. This just might imply that the picture comes from the video.
Those who have heard the single, like those who heard the album itself in “pre-listening” sessions, indicate it follows the “electro-pop” mode established in ‘Camouflage”. This makes sense if Lara feels that is the current, ‘modern’ music applicable to both English and French languages. As to whether one likes that for Lara, it already appears people are split, as they were for Camouflage. Obviously one would have to hear the full album to get the full perspective. The single itself was played on on the air during one of Lara’s interviews yesterday in Belgium [see below].
Additional information indicated that the album itself will be released in February, 2019. A tour to support the album will reportedly be primarily in France, Belgium and Quebec (see the article below); one suspects it will begin after the end of the shooting for “La Voix” in mid-May, and extend through at least June, before the summer holidays begins, though none of that is not official. Here’s the brief discussion (http://www.radiowls.be/papillon-lara-fabian-revient-avec-un-nouvel-album/):
-----------------------------------------------------------------
After her latest album in French, "Ma vie dans la tienne" released in 2015 and certified "platinum" in France and "Gold" in Belgium, Lara Fabian returns with a new album composed of 11 titles in French, and written, recorded and produced in Montreal. The Belgian-Canadian artist, who has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, has just completed an international tour, the "Camouflage World Tour". Lara's new album, entitled "Papillon", will be the 10th studio album of the performer whose titles have become classics like "Je t’aime", "Tout", "Immortelle", "J’y crois encore", "Adagio" or "Tue es mon autre". The first single of this album, "Papillon”, bearing the same name as the album, will be released on October 5th. The release of the album, scheduled for early 2019 (Warner Music), will be followed by a new tour that will focus on France, Belgium and Quebec, where Lara will once again take on the role of coach for a second season in La Voix, the Canadian edition of the international franchise “The Voice”.
--------------------------------------------------
www.rtlplay.be/90-minutes-p_11239/lara-fabian-c_12164909
with the audio, at www.rtl.be/belrtl/emission/-90minutes/1588.aspx.
In it Lara discusses the new album, the follow-up to the Camouflage tour, and how she recorded it in Montreal in her home studio. You get a chance to hear the new single Papillon, and it is indeed a very interesting “electro-pop” sound – clearly different from what the host associated with Lara (he probably never really went through the act of listening to Camouflage). On the show she discusses how she came to live in Quebec for La Voix, about recording both English and French albums and their difference, and her desire to ‘transmit’ what she’s learned.
Of particular interest is the discussion of what is to come concerning the new album. The next single to be released is called “Je suis à toi", and the third single is called “Alien”. Also there will be a song in homage to Maurane called “Alcyon". This is more information than we usually get about an album months away from release – often the subsequent singles haven’t even been decided before the first one is released. We’ll see if it really plays out this way.
An interview with her was published today in the Belgian paper “La Dernière Heure”. Part of it was included in an on-line article at (http://www.dhnet.be/medias/musique/voici-ce-que-lara-fabian-ferait-si-elle-n-avait-que-24-heures-a-vivre-5bb1fc3ccd70d3638da31780). Here’s the translation:

This is what Lara Fabian would do if she had only 24 hours to live
PIERRE-YVES PAQUE
The Canadian belgian singer, coach at The Voice Canada, confides on her new single entitled Papillon
"Papillon is an ode to lightness and gratitude", says Lara Fabian, about her new single, "Papillon", which will be released this Friday and announces a new album for February 2019. "A way of removing my nose from the glass and to saying to myself : Here, if I had only 24 hours to live, what would I do? Would I continue to torture myself with things that are not going well or would I just take a little height and appreciate the beauty of what I already have? I want to enjoy what life has offered me. To fly in gratitude rather than torpedo oneself as one sometimes does. It is completely human, the two poles exist, but we are sometimes a little swallowed by life. In short, a way of looking with height. Count our chances and blessings."
And the 50-year-old Belgian-Canadian singer [sic – 48 years old], who lives in Quebec today as she has re-enlisted for a new season as a coach at The Voice Canada, tells us the things she's most excited about right now are " my daughter, my husband, my dad and my mom ... "
As a reminder, her mother Louisa-age 76 and to whom she had dedicated her song “L'oblivion” in her last album [sic – last French album]- is afflicted with Lewy body dementia. "This disease is horrible, it is completely locked up in her body and she does not recognize me at all”, confesses a touching Lara Fabian, with tears in her eyes. “It's very difficult ... and when you live like this and you're lucky enough to have a healthy husband and daughter, you have to enjoy it. That you, you can still put your boots on all alone, walk, go to the park and take out your dog. It sounds stupid but there is something in us that needs to keep on remembering how lucky we are. Even walking alone to your car and putting the ignition on. Go somewhere, eat your own meal, be able to take in someone you love. We overlook the good that surrounds us because we often go astray. Papillon [Butterfly] is all that. I fly, I will fly and I will dress with light. I will look at the Earth and I will appreciate its beauty. I will fly and I will be a butterfly. "
------------------------------------------------------------
Today she was to be on the morning show “A La Bonne Heure” on RTL.fr:
www.facebook.com/ALaBonneHeure/photos/a.107680519387316/1229776280511062/?type=3&theater&ifg=1
The caption reads, “Stephane Bern will welcome Lara Fabian! After “Ma vie dans la tienne” in 2015, the singer returns with “Papillon”, her new single. The album of the same name and composed of 11 songs in French, will be published at the beginning of 2019. Its release will be followed by a tour of France, Belgium and Quebec.”
That was followed by another very nice picture, this morning
www.facebook.com/ALaBonneHeure/photos/a.145724842249550/1230267653795258/?type=3&theater
with a similar caption, “The sublime and talented Lara Fabian gives us wings this morning in “A La Bonne Heure” alongside Stéphane Bern for "Papillon", first extract of her new album to be published in February 2019.
A brief article followed (https://www.rtl.fr/culture/medias-people/a-la-bonne-heure-avec-lara-fabian-7795000575):
--------------------------------------------------------------
A La Bonne Heure with Lara Fabian
Lara Fabian returns to the front of the stage with "Papillon", her new single in French. She is the guest of Stéphane Bern on October 2, 2018.
Her latest album in French, titled ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ and Certified Platinum, dates back to 2015. On October 5th, Lara Fabian will be back with her new single, Papillon . A piece that the singer describes as "an ode to lightness and gratitude".
While she has just completed an international tour with the Camouflage World Tour, the artist who has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, does not take a break. The single of the Belgian-Canadian singer, Papillon , will be followed by a disc of the same name whose release is scheduled for early 2019. This will be the 10th studio album of her career. Consisting of 11 titles, the opus was written, recorded and produced in Montreal.
The interpreter of titles that have become classics like”Je t’aime” , “Tout” , “Immortelle”, “J’y crois encore” or “Tue es mon autre” (in duet with Maurane), then will return on tour. It will crisscross the roads of France, Belgium and Quebec. Lara Fabian recently moved to the capital of Quebec to participate in the Canadian version of The Voice franchise as a member of the jury. The singer will soon be back for the season 7 of the famous TV-franchise.
----------------------------------------------------------------
And, as indicated on Twitter: today at 13:30 @ LFabianOfficial will be the guest of # CarteBlanche of @ HeleneMannarino on @ LCI ! [from TF1 ProVerified] (thanks to Nicolas Boucaud for the info).
Additionally, on Wednesday she will be participating in the (live) TV show "TOUCHE PAS A MON POSTE" on French TV. Also she will be on “Les annees bonheur” with Patrick Sebastien on France 2 (for which one can sign up to be in the audience). One supposes she has to get in these interviews now to maximize the publicity associated with the single’s release, for she won’t have much time to be in these countries once “La Voix” starts airing in mid-January. Thus one expects that the February album release will probably not be accompanied by her usual round of extensive media appearances in France and Belgium, though we’ll see if she can squeeze anything in. Otherwise, it remains to be seen whether the public in these countries will remember anything about the album’s release four months from now.
Presumably, at least partly in conjunction with this promotion, Lara is on the cover of the Quebec magazine “7Jours”, at:
www.facebook.com/magazine7Jours/photos/a.215281058499409/2340030632691097/?type=3&theater&ifg=1
And furthermore, Lara is now in the title picture of their facebook page, at:
www.facebook.com/magazine7Jours/photos/a.404567662904080/2340478835979610/?type=3&theater
with the enclosed caption, “On the shelves each Thursday”.
An Instagram video of one part of their photo session for this article, showing Lara looking quite beautiful, can be seen at:
The accompanying (translated) caption for it reads, “7joursmagazine Lara Fabian shooting photos for 7 Jours! The star takes pleasure in working with @genevievecharbonneau, David Damour et @marcomarsolais !
Reportage à lire dans #7joursmagazine #shooting #exclusivité #star #magazine #enkiosque Thanks to @genevievecharbonneau, @daviddamours @marcomarsolais! Merci @larafabianofficial 💜
And an associated (translated) additional blurb for the article reads, “The next few months will be filled with projects for Lara Fabian! The Star tells us about her new happiness in Quebec alongside her daughter and husband. And also see the backstage of her passage to the show ‘Tout le monde aime’!”
The Lara Fabian – PHQ site posted some scans of the article itself (https://www.facebook.com/larafabianphq/photos/a.353954938084519/1542575512555783/?type=3&theater); here is the translation:

Our Family Live Has Taken All Its Strength
The last year it is with joy that we announced the return of Lara Fabian to Quebec. Now installed in the country, the singer, her daughter Lou, and her husband Gabriel, have taken their ease. Here, it is now their home. The coming months will be full of happy projects for Lara. In effect, she will be on stage in October, will soon present to us the first extract of her new album, and will retake the chair of coach on La Voix this coming winter.
Lara, the shows that you will present to us in October will permit you to live another series of beautiful meetings again with the Quebecois public!
LF: Yes, it is the end of the international tour that I began in February in Miami, and that I will finish October 14th at the Videotron Center in Quebec. I will also do two shows at the St. Denis Theater. It was my choice. I had the desire to return on the stage of this theater where I had done 41 evenings in a row at the time of Carpe diem, an album that had sold half a million copies. I cannot wait, but I'm scared ... I feel like coming home and returning to my family.
It’s interesting to note that stress still lives in you…
LF: Yes, I still question myself. Am I going to be good enough? I never take anything for granted. My experience and my journey offer me a certain security, but despite my 30 years of career and the loyalty of the public, the part of me which doubts is always very alive.
However, your shows sold in record time. In 20 minutes, all the tickets were sold. That is love, that!
LF: When they told me, I thought they were making fun of me. Since my return to Quebec, I have been living so beautiful that I am almost afraid to look at my happiness too closely.
You will present us shortly the first excerpt of your next album, which will be released in the winter of 2019. What does the piece Papillon tell?
LF: This first excerpt will be available from October 5th. It is the story of a human being who is overflowing with gratitude. If we were able, quite like a butterfly, to take a little height and act as if we only had 24 hours, how many blessings could we count in our lives? Would we be able to appreciate the beauty? The butterfly is a symbol that has followed me for a long time. My grandmother called me Farfalla, which means "Butterfly" or Farfallna, "Little Butterfly". It is she who reminded me of the fragility of life. We have the impression that we are here always, when we just have the time to be.
What is it that inspired this song?
LF: It is an exercise that I do often. When one has a family that one loves, a healthy child, a career that one follows for 30 years, a good entourage and good friends, we must be grateful. Like everybody, I’ve lived some highs and some lows. I’ve known some very difficult moments. I have somersaulted once or twice. So I’ve realized the strength that is ours when we take a step back. When we rise, we become aware of our power, our resilience and our ability to survive very difficult things.
This winter, you will also return to your coach’s chair in La Voix. Is it an experience that you renew with happiness?
LF: Yes. The transmission, it is another facet of my profession. It is the place toward which I’m going. To be able to pass the baton, like in the course of a relay, it is of paramount importance in my life. To have a chair in La Voix is a magnificent privilege! I live this adventure with a great deal of humility. What a responsibility! It is necessary to do things correctly.
Your participation in La Voix nevertheless involves some sacrifices, since you had to settle in Quebec with your family. How did this move take place?
LF: Like when you slide on a banana peel, without landing on the buttocks! (Laughs). I received the call on August 28th and arrived in Quebec on October 8th. It was something! When my manager phoned me, he reminded me that I had often mentioned the possibility of returning to live in Quebec. My family and me we had already moved to Andalusia. We lived in Spain. My daughter, who was nine, and my husband had just changed their lives. So I sat down with my chum and my daughter and I asked them: What do you say about going to live in Quebec? If it was too difficult for them to consider this move, I was ready to go back and forth. But it was not conceivable that we are separated for months. Finally, we bought some Kanuk [winter coats and accessories], boots and hats, and we landed here! (Laughter)
Is it that it has been a favorite for your lover and your daughter?
LF: It does not make sense! It was incredible! They are at home. A few days ago, mu daughter said to me that she has never been as happy in a school. She adores her teacher, Mr. Louis. To hear that is rejoicing.
Your daughter has she rapidly adapted to this new life here?
LF: All mothers are proud, but I have such admiration for her! I am very proud of my daughter! I thought it was great to see her adapt in the space of a few months. When she comes home, Lou no longer screams "Maman?”, but "Moman?" (Laughs) She put on her Quebec shoes, she is made to live here, it goes with her character, she likes simple, easy things.
Do you believe that this change of continent has given her an extraordinary experience and exceptional strength?
LF: She has faced several changes, from Belgium to Spain, from Spain to Quebec. She has changed school three times in a year. She speaks three languages, French, English and Italian. She travels and knows how to pack her bag. And she is funny! She makes me laugh. She is a clown.
You recognize yourself in her?
LF: Yes, and her father also. From time to time, my father talks about my daughter saying that she is a mini Lara…
Does Lou have a beautiful voice?
LF: She sings well, but it is not what she wants to do with her life. When we speak of profession, she tells me that she would not want to do it, for she would want to remain longer with her children…She loves the fact that, since we live in Quebec, I am more often at home.
Your lover, how about him, is he used to Montreal?
LF: My lover has begun to know Montreal better than me. He knows where to buy the best tomatoes and the good Italian delicatessen. He knows everything! It is as if our family unit has taken all its strength in settling here. He tells me often that Montreal reminds him of the city of his birth, Catania, but is better organized. I think that it is for this reason that he is so well here.
Because following his woman to the other side of the Atlantic, it is love, indeed!
LF: Gabriel went to live 7000 km from his family. So, yes, I dare to believe that it's love (laughs).
You also, it was necessary to separate yourself from your parents. You miss them a lot?
LF: Of course I miss my parents. I miss the family in Italy also. My best friend Nathalie, lives in Belgium. Honestly, that is the most difficult aspect. God bless WhatsApp and Skype! It’s important! We try to travel to Europe regularly enough. Me, at least once per month for my work. Otherwise, I go there to see my mom.
How is she doing, exactly?
LF: She suffers from a neurodegenerative sickness. In this word, there is the whole answer…I have a magnificent father who, every day of his life, is occupied by my mother. In addition to all my little girl love, he has all my respect. It’s very inspiring as a relationship.
Does your father ever tell you how much he misses you?
LF: Yes, but without ever making me feel guilty for the choice of life that I’ve made. He encourages me to make my life, to live my life. He prefers that I be far and happy rather than near and less well in my life. He will be there to attend the shows that I will present in October. I am so happy! Life wanted that my first show at the St.-Denis theater to fall on the birthday of my mother. It was the available date. We are going to organize for someone to film the show in order to present it to her.
Do you have the intention to remain here for the long term?
LF: Each time that I’ve affirmed that we are settled, the Good Lord has burst out laughing. I live one day at a time. I would love that we remain, this is the life project of the family, but I have a lot of difficulty responding with certainty. In light of the career that I do, in the end I have the life of a nomad. And there are other unknowns in life, the health of my parents among others. Thus I don’t know. Recently, Loulou heard the word "tour" between the branches. She knows what that implies for me. She wants me to go on a tour, but come back to Quebec.
In closing, on October 2, you will be honored by your peers at the SOCAN Gala. It is a beautiful gift.
LF: To be nominated by one’s peers is a great privilege. It’s a different color than what the public offers us. It is a wonderful reward, which has its own importance. The songs are honored because they have been loved by the public. I do not accept this recognition with both hands, but with a few hundred thousand hands. We receive this prize together, finally. I have only one regret: I cannot be present at the gala evening. I will participate in a show in France for the release of Papillon.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Another wonderful interview; the ending answer of this interview shows just how difficult it will be for Lara to continue to live in Quebec when the largest audience for her work is across the Atlantic.
The magazine in addition contains an interview with Lara backstage of the show “Tout le monde aime” broadcast last week (https://www.facebook.com/ReseauTVA/photos/a.298797206826873/2103578596348716/?type=3&theater). If scans of that become available, the translation will be provided. For those who didn’t get a chance to see the full show, it is now available on youtube, (and has lasted a number of days, so presumably it will survive), at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WaEUTmRi3A
(make sure you start it at the beginning).
It’s also available at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=IigxkoLvDYg&feature=youtu.be
and
www.youtube.com/watch?v=IigxkoLvDYg&t=3s
As indicated in the article, Lara has her concerts in Quebec coming up in about 10 days (and it is interesting that in it Lara said she considers the shows in Quebec to still be part of the Camouflage tour, as we have been told they will include material from her earlier career in Quebec). While the questioner indicated that tickets were sold out in 20 minutes, that was not apparently the case for the concert in Quebec City, where there are still tickets available (e.g., on Lara’s website in the ‘Events’ section). An advertisement for it, as well as other events at the “Centre Videotron” can be seen at:
www.facebook.com/centrevideotron/videos/721617681564049/
In other news, Lara will be on a program dedicated to Johnny Hallyday. As noted in (http://www.leblogtvnews.com/2018/09/le-palmares-des-20-chansons-de-johnny-hallyday-preferees-des-francais-w9.html):
---------------------------------------------------------
On the occasion of the release of Johnny Hallyday's posthumous album "Mon pais c’est l’amour” , [channel] W9 pays tribute to the idol of young people through an unofficial classification that takes up his greatest songs that for 60 years have composed the soundtrack of French life ...
Thanks to an IFOP survey, you will discover the 20 unforgettable titles that the French have chosen themselves! Pieces drawn from the most beautiful Johnny Hallyday albums with obviousness of course, but also some surprises ...
20 titles of legend that perfectly sum up the immense career of this monument of song!
Celebrities will also be present to pay tribute to him and share unusual anecdotes: Florent Pagny will return to her unforgettable duet with Johnny on "Le Penitencier", Michael Jones will discuss the recording of "J’oublierai ton nom", Lara Fabian will return to her duet on "Requiem pour un fou" at the Stade de France and Pascal Obispo will tell the story of "Allumer le feu" with Zazie.
-------------------------------------------------
And, unfortunately, in the same sorrowful vein, Charles Aznavour just passed away, at the age of 94. Lara left the following message (e.g., www.sudinfo.be/id77729/article/2018-10-01/charles-aznavour-nous-tant-appris-lara-fabian-attristee-de-perdre-un-geant): “A giant of the song has left us ... I am deeply saddened by the departure of the one who has taught us so much ... and given so much”. As various sites have been reminding us, Lara included his song “Comme ils disent” on her “En toute intimate” album and DVD, the video of which can be seen at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0SMPHEQN_M
These deaths only underline Lara’s comments concerning “Papillon” – enjoy what we have now, for tomorrow it may well be gone.
Interesting photo(s) of the week: three from the Lara Fabian – PHQ site, from the 7Jours article (other sites also show the same pictures):

And the Lara Fabian web site showed a cute video for the new single that was put together with various relevant pictures (it does not include music from the single). It can be found at:

Finally, an un-related but nevertheless very pretty picture of Lara, from the Lara Fabian – PHQ site,

It took an additional month, but the true “La rentree” for Lara has now started, with the release this coming week of the new single, most likely the music video, her appearances in France and Belgium, followed next week by the concerts in Quebec. Let’s hope all goes as smoothly and effectively for her in these arenas as her life in Quebec has been this past year.
David
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.338665829508254/2303603603014457/?type=3&theater
--------------------------------------------------
It's nice to know that this once again is being distributed under the Warner France label, which means it should get some promotional push.
Indeed, Lara is in Belgium and France this week to promote the single "Papillon", as well as the album as a whole. She is doing interviews with press, appearing on radio shows, and participating in/recording TV shows. For example, yesterday morning she was on the show “90 Minutes” on Bel RTL in Belgium; a video of her appearance, is available (outside of that geographic region, it is accessible on mobile devices only), at:
www.rtlplay.be/90-minutes-p_11239/lara-fabian-c_12164909
with the audio, at www.rtl.be/belrtl/emission/-90minutes/1588.aspx.
