The big news this week was announced by Lara on her FB page today (6/27):
“A little surprise gift for you…
My collaboration with the indie rock band from Los Angeles, LES FRICTION on the title ‘You always knew’.”
Lara provides a 30 second snippet (w/o her singing), and there is a blurb suggesting one listen to it on Apple Music, at itunes.apple.com/us/album/dark-matter/id1251050771?i=1251050780. However, for those who do not have an Apple Music subscription, you should know that ‘Les Frictions’ have also made it available on their official youtube site, at www.youtube.com/watch?v=01C9JJUhZs0 ; it is provided there by ‘CDBaby’, which offers a platform for independent artists, and from where it can also be purchased (https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/lesfriction6).
Although one might think this is a duet, they actually spend very little time singing together, just a few lines from the chorus the second time it appears. Otherwise it is a ‘he said, she said’ piano voice composition. Lara as usual does a very good, nuanced job, and their singer, ‘Paint’ is fine as well. The genre of this ‘Dark Matter’ album is ‘Rock Opera’, though there’s no ‘rock’ on this cut, or on some of the others on that album. They appear to specialize in ‘mood’ pieces, presumably connected thematically.
Here are the approximate lyrics:
--------------------------------------------
Out of the clouds you came to me
Hearts were always one
My eyes are finally open
There’s no one there
You’re not there
You were once my church
Now I have no real to join(?)
With careful hands I set you down
I let you go you’re free now
With careful hands I put you away
I release you
[Chorus]
Where there were windows now there’s a wall
The future was clear from my view
Now we’re inches apart and worlds away
You were always mine and he always knew
He knew
[Lara’s part]:
Once in a lifetime we shared a dream
A path divine with shape
But I needed more room when we began to bloom
Love can’t be erased
You have seen what you’ve wished
And my feelings you have missed
With careful hands I let you down
I would let go, stand up now
With careful hands I lead you back home
I lead you
[Sung together]:Where there were windows now there’s a wall
The future was clear from my view
Now we’re inches apart and worlds away
I would always go and you always knew
You always knew
You always knew
-------------------------------------------
As far as Lara’s own album is concerned, while waiting for any new public activity, or more immediately the new single, it was ‘back to the past’. Her FB site featured one of the most alluring pictures taken during her first English single promotion. It’s available at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/1619348444773313/?type=3
It was accompanied by the caption, “A photo from years ago.. memories from the release of my first English album...I am so looking forward to present you the new one, "Camouflage", this fall… but first, a single this summer…”
As one can tell from that ‘seasonal’, rather than monthly prediction for the date of the single release, it’s taking a while to get together all the necessary ingredients for releases in different markets, promotion, etc. Lara and her team have a bigger job than many other artists, whose primary target country market is clear, and who then simply rely on music channels (iTunes, Spotify, etc.) for releases elsewhere. Her primary market is ‘international’, consisting of many different countries; this obviously differs from the release of her French singles where Belgium/France/Switzerland is all she has to worry about. So if they are hoping for simultaneous worldwide publicity, and perhaps even airplay, more coordination would appear to be necessary.
In combination with that photo, Lara put on another, emphasizing the ‘soon’ component of the coming single release, at
twitter.com/search?q=Lara%20Fabian%20Official&src=typd
A comment made on her site in response to these pictures asked for a new French album. Lara (or her Team) replied, “There will be of course a new French album too.. later. First, the one in English, "Camouflage". It thus does appear that a French album will be the next object of focus, which [they hope] will prevent her Francophile audience from drifting too far away. One supposes that the timing of that will depend on the success of this album – if it is really successful, one could imagine that would perhaps extend the English tour, could more likely lead to a DVD, etc. Either way, it’s hard to expect a new French album before 2019, and even then maybe not until later in that year.
Continuing in that Francophile focus, Lara put the following message on her FB site (in French) on June 21, which is translated as: A piano, a few flowing notes ... I wish you a joyful music festival ... may it resonate deeply in your hearts .... Love ...”. This accompanied a cute picture of Lara leaning over a piano, to provide those few notes, at:
As to what Lara was referring to, June 21st was ‘World International Music Day’, or in French, “Fête de la Musique”. As explained on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C3%AAte_de_la_Musique),
---------------------------------------------------------
“In October 1981, Maurice Fleuret became Director of Music and Dance at Minister of Culture Jack Lang’s request, and applied his reflections to the musical practice and its evolution: "the music everywhere and the concert nowhere". When he discovered, in a 1982 study on the cultural habits of the French, that five million people, one child out of two, played a musical instrument, he began to dream of a way to bring people out on the streets. It first took place in 1982 in Paris as the Fête de la Musique.
Ever since, the festival has become an international phenomenon, celebrated on the same day in more than 700 cities in 120 countries, including China, India, Germany, Italy, Greece, Russia, Australia, Peru, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Canada, the United States, and Japan.
Fête de la Musique's purpose is to promote music in two ways:
Amateur and professional musicians are encouraged to perform in the streets, under the slogan "Faites de la musique" ("make music", a homophone of Fête de la Musique).
Many free concerts are organized, making all genres of music accessible to the public. Two of the caveats to being sanctioned by the official Fête de la Musique organization in Paris are that all concerts must be free to the public, and all performers donate their time for free. This is true of most participating cities, now, as well.
-------------------------------------------------------
An admirable tradition; one can only hope it will grow even more in importance, world-wide.
Concerning the 2018 tour, tickets are now available for the performance in Budapest on April 8. It’s at the Budapest Arena, the biggest mall in Budapest, built some 10 years ago. A few changes have also occurred in the dates for the two concerts in Romania, with the dates for Cluj-Napoca and Bucharest having been exchanged (now 3/29 for the former, 3/31 for the latter). So far tickets are only available for the Bucharest show. Otherwise no additional venues/dates have been added.
Lara wished ‘”Happy Holidays to all Muslims! Happy Bayram!”, with the accompanying photo of candy,
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/1622680504440107/?type=3&theater
According to Wikipedia, “Bayram is the Turkish word for a nationally-celebrated festival or holiday, applicable to both national (i.e. secular) and religious celebrations. In accordance with this dual applicability, the method with which one determines the yearly timing of Bayrams is different for national and religious holidays”. The Holiday in question (from the same source) is “Shawwāl (Arabic: شوّال), the tenth month of the lunar Islamic calendar. Shawwāl means to 'lift or carry'; so named because a female camel normally would be carrying a fetus at this time of year. The first day of Shawwāl is Eid al-Fitr. Some Muslims observe six days of fasting during Shawwāl beginning the day after Eid ul-Fitr since fasting is prohibited on this day. These six days of fasting together with the Ramadan fasts, are equivalent to fasting all year round. The reasoning behind this tradition is that a good deed in Islam is rewarded 10 times, hence fasting 30 days during Ramadan and 6 days during Shawwāl is equivalent to fasting the whole year in terms of reward.” It is celebrated throughout the Muslim world; the first day this year began June 25th.
Lara’s post brought forth a very positive reaction from most (though not all) of the respondents on her site, Muslim and non-Muslim alike. Because Lara shows great love for all people regardless of religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, country of origin, etc., her audience has a tendency to do so likewise. That’s one of the most attractive parts of Lara and her community.
Lara continued her highlighting of other female singers, with a shout-out to Sade and her song “Solder of Love”. She included on her Twitter site the lines from the song:
I'm at the borderline of my faith,
In the front line of this battle of mine...
I'm still alive. I'm a soldier of Love [heart]
A video for the song can be found at youtu.be/IR5_rTCi-Bo .
One can see why the lyrics would appeal to Lara, she certainly considered herself at the front lines of such a battle, although she perhaps no longer does, having found stability on the ‘home front’.
Interesting photo(s) of the week: Posted on the LFIAG Select site by Benjamin-Nathanian Lemmens , a truly unique picture:

As a caption to that photo, Lara herself told us what is coming up for her: “A very busy week ahead, with a Master Class at AICOM - Académie Internationale de Comédie Musicale , a photo shoot for the album "Camouflage" and more... Je vous souhaite une belle semaine ! And we return that wish.
