The News Update this week is going in reverse order, time-wise – plans for the fall being discussed first, eventually getting back to what happened this past week. This is in accordance with their likely importance.
Further indications have appeared that Lara will have a tour of Russia this fall. The latest city mentioned is Barnaul
(http://www.barnaul-altai.ru/rest/afisha/?idprog=12373). Adding this to the list of sites already mentioned, we have: Chelyabinsk (55N,61E), on October 3, 2012, Kazan (55N, 49E) on October 9th, Yekaterinburg (56N,60°E), Tyumen (57N,65E) and now Barnaul (53N, 83E) on November 11th. A fan on the Russian site said that the whole schedule has now been arranged, although contracts have yet to be signed.
Lara’s tours almost always are used to promote something, and it’s hard to imagine what she would be promoting in those places this coming fall (it will have been 2 years since the Mlle. Zhivago album was released in Russia). In addition, one would have thought she would be hard at work on her new French album during that time. And clearly it’s not the MZ film - at least not directly. The geographic coordinates are given above to emphasize how far these places are from Moscow (55N, 37E), St. Petersburg (59N,30E), and Kiev (50N, 30E) (10° of longitude is about 1000km). It would appear she’s staying away from the cities where the film is likely to be a subject of contention. Of course this is probably not the complete list, and locations further west might yet be added. In addition, we don’t really know whether even these will actually take place (remember the list for the fall of 2010 that was cancelled). If it does occur, it will show that Lara’s not willing to give up on Russia (the Asian portion, at least) just because of the MZ film fiasco.
It was announced on Lara’s FB site this past week that the MZ CD/DVD/book release scheduled for June 21 in France will be delayed until September for Belgium. This came as news to the Carrefour employees in that country, who had been telling people it would be available in their stores one week after the France debut. A September release is much more favorable, coming after people return from summer holidays, though why that wasn’t considered to be important for the market in France is puzzling. It’s unlikely that interested fans in Belgium are going to wait the two months in any event, although as noted last week, the shipping charges from the on-line site are high, even apparently to Belgium.
Lara’s ‘angels’ are slowly becoming aware of the oddity of her apparently including stills from the ‘forbidden film’ in the upcoming package. One wonders whether this is not an attempt by Lara to pressure Badoev into revising the film (something a Russian tour might also be designed to do). Lara’s Romanian fan club released a subtitled (in French) version of Badoev’s Ukrainian TV interview from last fall, shortly before the release of his trailer for the movie. [It can be found at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnGCbRHr1NE&NR=1&feature=endscreen; note they do not include a link to it on their youtube channel]. In it he emphasizes that if people expect the film to be some ‘light musical’ they will be disappointed. He says it is very strong, socially speaking, and that it is very dear to his heart. So if Lara thinks he will budge, she’s probably mistaken; and of course if he thought she would back down, that hasn’t happened either. Hence the problem.
One humorous aspect of the interview: he said that in order to get Lara to work the long hours (which she had initially refused to do, saying “Europeans don’t do such things” (!)), he showed her the invoices they were racking up. Then she quickly agreed. Presumably she is happy about that now, for while we don’t know what financial burden Lara has assumed by refusing to release the film, her own comments seem to imply that it is not negligible.
Several months ago, when asked about her future plans, Lara indicated that she would be in Venice, Italy in May, and sure enough, Rob Mancuso posted a photo of Lara there, available at:

We don’t know what the event was (it never appeared on her schedule). If it was a TV show (rumors are that it was a comedy show) it will presumably air at some point. If it was a private concert, this is probably the last we’ll hear of it. But it’s nice to see her make use of her Italian .
With the passing of Donna Summers, it was noted on various sites that Lara and Rick Allison wrote the lyrics for a song she performed, "Tant qu'il y aura de l'amour", produced by David Foster. Lara’s Romanian fan club provided the French lyrics as well as the video of Donna’s performance; they’re available at:
larafabianromania.blogspot.fr/2012/05/lara-fabians-rick-allisons-lyrics-for.html
As they note, the English version of the song, ‘Whenever There is Love’, was written by Roverts and Bronfman. You may also remember Lara’s sparkling rendition of “I’m So Excited” from the ‘Night of the Proms’ tour in 2007 (available on youtube). Lara herself hasn’t commented on her passing, unlike the situation with Whitney Houston; of course, the circumstances were quite different.
In case you missed it, Lara’s ‘Romanian fan club’ and ‘Lara Fabian est ton autre’ have made another song available from Lara’s April concert in Kazakhstan. ‘J’y crois encore’ can be found at:

We’re still several weeks away from Lara’s next scheduled appearance in Israel, so future plans (and current controversies) may well dominate the updates until then.
