A week of movement on several fronts for Lara, not necessarily all to her liking.
And a week where rumors dominated the actual news; this week’s review might as well be called ‘Rumor Update’.
On March 28th, Alan Badoev put the following (translated) message on his Twitter account: " ‘Miss Zhivago’ has been delivered already. Now the legal affairs and the [record] labels rule the process. I hope that soon we are going to have the opportunity to enjoy the outcome.”
That is all we literally know for sure. Taken at face value, it would imply Badoev has a final version of the movie that he sent to the sponsor of the film, presumably Universal Records France, and it is in their hands to decide what to do with it. But here’s where the rumors begin.
In one scenario, the movie will be released only in Russia and the Ukraine; for France and Belgium, only the CD will be released, along with a book of pictures from the movie. Lara is still unhappy with the film, it is said, and this is a compromise solution.
In a second version, the DVD will be released in France and Belgium as well, but with a delay since it has yet to be determined in what form: DVD, Internet, TV, etc. All this will take a few months, as the film still needs a final editing. BTW, in this rumor, the CD will not be released in France/Belgium.
In associated rumors, the release in being forced by Universal France (who did spend some $3 million on it). Definitive statements have also been made by ‘people in the know’ that Lara is no longer associated with Universal (for some three months now) and they currently have no plans to release her new album; or that, yes, she is still on their roster, with the disputes over TLFM and EWIM having passed.
What to make of all this? First, even Badoev’s statement can not necessarily be believed, as he has issued a number of them concerning this project that have ‘failed to verify’. It may be another case of his putting pressure on Lara, or relieving himself of the constant questioning. Secondly, it would be hard to believe that Universal Music France would agree to release a movie (they paid for) only in Russia and the Ukraine; at the very least, they would have some explaining to do to their accountants in France . [They apparently did not pay for the CD, so far released only in those countries]. And Lara has shown no inclination toward releasing the CD in France at all, even having passed over concert opportunities to promote it there.
As to whether she is still with Universal: she apparently indicated at her Paris concert that she was, for this one more upcoming disc. Of course, things could have changed since then; however, the refusal of the people with this ‘inside knowledge’ to reveal how they got it does not inspire confidence.
So, basically, Badoev’s statement may have pushed the ball forward, especially if it’s true, in which case Universal (presumably) will be calling the shots as to where and when (if ever) the movie is released. Even if one of these rumors does represent the case currently, the situation might still be changing. While waiting for confirmation of anything from Lara’s official site is often a futile endeavor, in this case one might be wise not to believe anything until it actually is stated there.
Another entry in the ‘seeing is believing’ category also arrived this past week. Lara accompanied by Gerard and Lou went to see a preview of the movie ‘Snow White’ which will officially open in Paris in mid-April. Much to everybody’s surprise, they posed for pictures, and so now Lou’s picture is all over the web, e.g.,

Those websites concerned with Lara, that had previously refused to carry Lou’s photo without Lara’s explicit permission, have now felt free to do so. Why Lara changed her mind (a rare occurrence!) is unclear; an uncharitable view is that Lara is now looking for publicity any place she can find it, but maybe it’s just that Lou is getting older, and Lara doesn’t feel so protective. In any event, what always seemed a dubious policy has now ended. We can probably expect to see more pictures of the ‘family’ in the future.
In other news, RTL-TV has won rights to the Belgian version of ‘The Voice’ for the coming season. It was reported that Lara has agreed to be a judge on the program, on the condition that Gerard is chosen to be the director. Hard to know what the likelihood of that taking place actually is, but it would be great to see Lara in that capacity, and she would do it very well.
More details have arrived about the upcoming album of George Perris, to be released in Quebec on April 24th. It contains a song written by Lara called "Dis-moi comment t'aimer" and a duo with her entitled "Ma solitude".
An Armenian newspaper "Aravot Yeritasardakan" ("Morning of Youth"), reported that Lara has recorded a duet with a young Armenian singer named ‘Eric’. He indicated it was recorded in “one of the famous studios in France”. Eric did not want to say when the duo will be presented to the public, and whether or not there will be a video. "All in good time”. Eric and Lara met last summer at Jurmala, when she participated in the "New Wave" show as a guest. Lara was reported to have said to him, "To me you're the best, I love you very much". The article can be found at:

(Although the report referred to ‘April 1, the ‘international day of humor’, one assumes it’s not a joke… . And good thing that Badoev’s Twitter message was a few days earlier…).
Lara’s concert in Kazakhstan is still almost two weeks away, so there is no expectation of any hard news concerning her activities much before then. However, we can be confident that rumors will help fill the gap…
