Lara’s duet with Nana Mouskouri of ‘La vie, l’amour, la mort’ on the program ‘Vivement Dimanche’ aired this past Sunday. For some reason, France 2 is o.k. with it being plastered all over the web (after cracking down on the last few shows), so the video is readily available. The Lara Fabian Romanian channel even did a subtitled version of it. Lara repeats her little child story of being lifted onto the stage by NM, and NM mentions that she first heard of Lara via Lara’s uncle, who was her chauffeur when she was in the European parliament. When prodded by the host Michel Drucker, Lara also got in a plug for "Il était une fois", the CD of fairy tales with Thierry Gali. Lara looked great, the song is appealing, and the connection between the two singers is of a mystical nature.
The only detraction was that it was a lip-synched version (something the other websites don’t seem to have caught onto), as can be heard by comparing the sound to that on Nana’s CD. Why this was done – when it is not usually the case on the program ‘Vivement Dimanche’– is open to speculation. Most likely it was to avoid embarrassing Nana Mouskouri, whose vocal prowess is considerably diminished. Hence an act of compassion – but subterfuge nevertheless, and now in France, not just in ‘the countries to the east’.
In the sparse other news, Lara’s FB site announced that her concert for the fans in Lebanon is going to be rebroadcast in Belgium on RTL TV1 March 11th. It will likely get more good reviews for its classy presentation. You may have heard that emboldened by the success in keeping Lara about of Lebanon, there is now a campaign to boycott Natalie Portman’s new Dior ad there, because she was born in Jerusalem…
Speaking of the issue of channels allowing their shows to appear on youtube, Lara’s second appearance on ‘L’ecole de fans’ from January of 2010 has just been uploaded and is being advertised on various web sites. If you missed it the first time, you can find it at:

What would appear odd about this is that about six months ago, the Lara Fabian Romanian channel put English subtitles on the first such program with Lara, and were forced to remove the whole thing due to ‘copyright violations’. It may just be that the presenter in this case, ‘Gulli’, does have the copyright. But clearly all the youtube uploaders did not have it for the ‘Vivement Dimanche’ show, so enforcement still appears whimsical (or else the law has recently been changed).
In two weeks Lara will begin her set of 5 concerts in the ‘countries to the east’. She is then off for another month, before a scheduled appearance in Kazakhstan, followed two months after that by her concert in Israel. For someone known to be full of energy, this is a very light schedule – with plenty of room for a tour in Russia/Ukraine, although it would seem to be getting pretty late to set one up, in the spring at least. Fans on the Russian website have been discussing sending Lara a video in which they request that the Mlle. Zhivago film be released, hoping a tour would then follow. Given Lara’s extended time table for her next new French album/tour, it looks like either the MZ project will come to fruition, or Lara’s websites will be hard-pressed to find anything to write about…But, then again, Lara has always been full of surprises...
