A potpourri of items in a week that was quiet for Lara, publicly.
Yesterday featured the release of the new album by Nana Moukouri “Rendez-vous” of duets with her friends, including that with Lara on “La Vie, L’Amour, La Mort”. The clip can be heard at various locales on the web; my personal favorite on youtube is that put together by Claire Evelyne Daugé at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=StBhllkgeF8
Lara makes a great effort to not overpower Nana’s somewhat more fragile voice. It is currently the 5th highest telecharge on amazon.fr.
In addition, the double album of Thierry Gali of fairy tales, "Il était une fois", with Lara reading ‘Snow White’ (in French) was also released yesterday. Profits will be donated to UNICEF.
As suspected, the date provided by Lara’s official FB site for the airing of Laurent Gerra's show on France TF1 was incorrect. It is now listed on Lara’s site as December 15th - but a recent report (on the FB ‘Lara Fabian International Page’) suggests it may actually be on December 10th. (This uncertainty is par for the course where Lara’s activities are concerned ). Fans were present at the recording of the program, and they said that while Lara sang well, she apparently has a bad back which hampered her movements. What they really focused on however was what happened after the show. Apparently Lara had promised she would make herself available, and fans waited around. Instead, Lara’s car drove by without stopping or even having her acknowledge their presence with a wave or a look. They suspected she was in a bad mood, perhaps because of her back, but were upset at this lack of courtesy. After they had voiced their complaints on her FB page, the whole thread (that had been started by Lara’s people) was removed, as well as any reference to it in other threads.
We’ve heard rumors of Lara’s back problems dating back to last summer. Amateur psychology suggests that it may in part stem from internalizing her problems with the Mlle. Zhivago film – or maybe she hurt it while being thrown around in the making of the film, adding to her distaste for it! Speculation aside, the physical problem cannot be helping her state of mind…
With respect to the film itself, Alan Badoev was interviewed concerning its status, and proceeded to dance around the question, with nebulous statements of the nature of, ‘we’ll see what happens’. For those interested, the interview (in Russian) is available at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ts38Q7_yRgs&
(Perhaps someone in this audience can get something more out of it… it has evoked almost no reaction on the Russian website.)
On the other hand, on a more positive front, Igor Krutoi several nights ago was on a TV show (whose name Google Translator indicates is “Temporarily Available”), and he played a portion of a song that he says he is doing for a new album with Lara. One can hear it at:
narod.ru/disk/32049384001/Vremenno_dostupen_-_Igor_Krutoj_-_extract.avi.html
This raises many questions. Is this new album “Le Secret” or is it the album that was discussed during the summer, which he was said to be doing with Lara (and that hasn’t been mentioned since)? If it’s the latter, and is being made at the same time as “Le Secret”, it would imply Lara is determined to keep her French and International careers (and albums) completely separate and parallel. At the very least, it would also imply that the friction over the “Mlle. Zhivago” film has not destroyed their relationship. Russian fans are hoping that this means they all remain friends, and that perhaps the issues with the film can thus be worked out.
Lara has still not added any Russian or Ukrainian dates to her spring event list, but there is a report out of the Ukraine suggesting she could appear there in some capacity. The report says that for the second season of the professional vocal show in the Ukraine - "The Voice kraini" on Channel 1 +1 - there have been discussions with Lara about being either a coach for the young singers, or a member of the jury. Either would imply that the problems with the film would have to be faced, as they strongly affect the well-known Ukrainian actor Max Barsky, and would certainly be raised by the press.
The channel “TV Melody” is celebrating the great songs of the ',90s in France. “La Difference” is to be featured on November 26th, probably primarily for its social implications. It is nice that it has ‘come back in from the cold’, although it is still not available on the Lara Fabian Live DVDs being sold currently. It would be interesting to know if it was included in the 4 CD set recently released (of the CDs: Lara Fabian - Carpe diem - Pure – Nue available for just 15 euros on amazon.fr).
The coming week has no obvious talking points for Lara, although the FB site “Lara Fabian International Page” says that an important announcement is imminent on the FB official site. [This news update was delayed for a few hours to see if anything would really appear.] If something of consequence does arise, it will be reported immediately.
