A vacation week for Lara, before going back to work in ‘the countries to the east’. The fans were pretty quiet, too, and August hasn’t arrived yet!
As pointed out on the lara-fabian-pure FB site, an article appeared on-line indicating that Lara was vacationing with her family in Marbella, in southern Spain. Apparently she and Gerard own some property there. The article was dated July 19th, and claimed Lara would be there until the end of July, when she is due to appear on the ‘New Wave’ program in Latvia. The piece contained a nice picture of Lara; it can be found at:

(So…if Alan Badoev were really going to go to Brussels last week to show Lara the clips from the Mlle. Zhivago film, he would have ended up being sorely disappointed! What this does, really, is cast doubt on his comments, including the ones concerning finishing the coloring of the film. You may remember that he was coming under pressure from fans for the delay in the movie’s appearance; it may be that he was just trying to get them off his back.)
Thierry Gali’s project “Il était une fois...” in which various well-known performers read folk tales on a CD, is looking for financing. One can become a co-producer by sending money for the album to their website at fr.akamusic.com/thierrygali (a minimum of 5 euros is being accepted; for 10 euros you get the dedicated album). On that website you can also see a video concerning the project, hear Lara’s reading of ‘Snow White’ (in French), and (half-way down the page) see a short video of Lara with Thierry during her reading – actually it and another ‘teaser’ of Lara’s performance are available on youtube as well. We’ve known that financing for this CD was somewhat shaky, given the postponements that have occurred in its release; hopefully this will raise what is needed. On the site at the time of this writing they list 359 ‘producers’ plus an additional 152 ‘fans’, and it appears that Lara’s ‘angels’ are playing a strong supporting role. (Lara is supposed to leave a message on her site encouraging fan participation, but of course she’s away on vacation – and the article about that said ‘she left her cell phone behind!’.)
Lara’s official FB page has just added some nice photos; they’re available at:

In a side note, Laetitia of larafabianweb.com has been having severe back problems and may need surgery; we wish her the best. Keeping up with Lara seems to be very stressful - you may remember that Hezia from the now defunct ‘Carpe Diem’ website battled breast cancer. I wonder if anyone has any news about her…
Now for the next excerpt from the biography of Lara, pp. 171-176; this section is concerned with Lara’s writing for others, and some special projects.
**As we know, Lara has occasionally written songs for others, including Nolwenn Leroy (“Inevitablement”), Sandy Valentino (“De la peau”), Chimene Badi (“Dis-moi que tu m’aimes”), Daniel Levi (“Avant”), Roland Karl (“Je serai la”), and Mario Pelchat (“Qui passé par ton ame”). A number of the people noted that Lara had done it for them without their asking, at times even calling them up and telling them she had a song for them (as she told Maurane for “Tue es mon autre”). It seems she gets an urge and follows through with her usual energy, often to the surprise of all involved. In other cases, she was led to the project by her boyfriend at the time, Rick Allison or Jean-Felix Lalanne, both of whom produced artists for whom Lara ended up writing.
**Through the years 2006 and 2007, Lara engaged in a variety of diverse projects. These included:
-“Chante avec Lara Fabian” her DVD to help singers improve their vocal capabilities, including warm-ups, vocalizations, breath control, and several songs from the album ‘Neuf’ that one could sing to, karaoke-style. It was directed by Gerard.
-Her rendition of Gershwin’s “I Loves You Porgy”, with Matt Herskowitz on the piano.
-Her participation in the tour ‘Night of the Prom’s’, singing with such diverse artists as Christophe Willem and Tears for Fears, accompanied by a symphonic orchestra. [This was on of the rare times that Lara actually sang in the Flemish portion of Belgium, and some of her great performances were recorded during this tour (e.g., “I’m So Excited”)].
-And her duet with Gigi D’Alessio on “Un cuore malato”. It had some minor success in France, Belgium and Italy for both of them. [However, the aborted attempt to enter the Italian market went nowhere, partly because Rick Allison refused to allow her to redo some of their old songs in Italian, and partly because Lara found the Italian record companies would not allow her any freedom. Elsewhere she said she had gone through that with Sony, and was not going to do it again.]
-Of course the ‘project’ that did go to completion at this time was Lara’s pregnancy!
Paula wondered whether Lara’s ‘health problems’ and the Russian tour cancellation might signify that she was pregnant again. The leading argument against this is the official comment that the problems were professional rather than personal… they wouldn’t mislead us, would they? (Also, she doesn’t look pregnant in the recent photos…).
Lara will be in Latvia this weekend for the 'New Wave' festival. Her duet with Dmitri Khvorostovski is a greatly anticipated potential highlight.
