Another week out of the spotlight for Lara, a situation which well may prevail until the latter part of June. Lara had repeatedly that said she needed rest, and hopefully she's getting it (although one wouldn't be surprised to find out she's off somewhere doing something that we'll learn about later).
In lieu of anything current, some notes on past and future activities. A "Russian Best-of" CD (2 CDs actually) that has been discussed for some weeks is available on ebay, at:
cgi.ebay.fr/LARA-FABIAN-GREATEST-HITS-2010-2CD-DIGIPACK-/250803350723?pt=Music_CDs&hash=item3a650b6cc3
It costs 25Euros, and is reportedly a very nice production. The question of whether it is legitimate or not has been raised continuously; it claims it is made from the original tapes, not from previously-released CDs. Again, it is not something that one couldn't put together oneself, but obviously that's true of the official ˜best-ofs" as well (except for the new songs). The one distinction here is that apart from not having the new songs, it has four from ˜Mlle. Zhivago". The ones included (Demaine n'existe pas; Toccami; Mama; and Russian Fairy Tale) are all good choices, but one wonders how that particular set was decided on...
As for Lara's fall tour to promote the album, "angeyelliel" on the official site forum said she has information that it will cover 28 cities, all in Russia, and not extend into the winter. Lara just recently mentioned 40 dates (there could obviously be more than one concert/city). [As to how she would hold up doing so many concerts, fans noted that if it was primarily lip-synching, it wouldn't be that tough ]. Both Lara and Igor had previously indicated there would be a ˜world tour", so we shall see if it continues on later at other venues. That would obviously require that the album be released elsewhere as well; in the articles discussed below, they are still mentioning a general spring release for the movie/album.
Back in France, Lara's upcoming performances (June 29,30) in Paris for the musical comedy "1939" (in association with AICOM, for whom Lara is ˜Godmother) have been getting some renewed publicity in the press. ˜Marraine" on the official site forum noted one such article, at:
www.jeanmarcmorandini.com/article-53223-lara-fabian-dans-une-comedie-musicale-en-juin.html
or yet again
www.purepeople.com/article/lara-fabian-retour-sur-scene-dans-une-comedie-musicale-pour-une-noble-cause_a78866/1
As noted in the stories, the proceeds from this event are to be dedicated to AMTM, the charitable association Lara is ˜Godmother" for so here she combines her two organizations. It's described for her as a 'comeback' - I"m not sure she sees it that way...She does get credit for the charitable aspects of it in all the reports.
As noted in a previous update, fans who are attending the "meeting of the fans" in Brussels, August 13th, want to put together a montage of pictures of Lara from around the world. If you'd like to contribute, see the facebook page at:

Some updates on the sales of recent releases: The ˜best of' in France is still on the charts, in 83rd place, and reportedly it has gone ˜platinum' (which in France means it has sold more than 100,000 copies). As noted by ˜Ocelot' in its thread, the ˜best of' in Canada (˜Je me souviens') entered at 55th for all of Canada, and it was 8th for Francophone albums. In its 25th week on the list in Russia, ˜Mlle. Zhivago' has dropped one place further, to 13th. [The somewhat irreverent comment under it on the chart reads: 'Damn, this album is still on the charts! What to write about it? Aunts and uncles, stop buying it!]. BTW, it is still not listed in the ˜discography™ section of the official site, but then again, the ˜best of' releases and the TLFM DVD aren't there either.
Some commentaries of Rick Allison have been added as 'overdubs' on a few videos of Lara, available on youtube. In addition to comments on ˜Adagio" (which we've already covered in the ˜biography"), with respect to "Je t'aime", Rick says he was inspired to write the music in response to "Je suis malade" which Lara had been singing each night from the ˜Carpe Diem" album, and on hearing the audience's reaction to Lara's emotional vocal presentation. It also fit her sentiments well (including sadness and melancholy). "Tu es mon autre" is a song that describes the relationship he and Lara had when they were younger, as we've heard Lara say many times. He thought that the tour for "Nue" was exceptional, both for its musicians and their performances.
Now for some comments on the biography of Lara, pp. 106-110:
**Lara returned to France for her summer ˜Tour 2000", and it was ˜the best of times, the worst of times". Her audiences were at the peak of their enthusiasm, and she played to full houses in many locations. But at the same time she was suffering from the collapse of her personal romantic dreams and the drumming from the press.
**This culminated, as we all know, in the evening at Nimes, on August 11, 2000, where Hezia had arranged with the band and the audience for the whole place to sing "On t'aime" to Lara. As an emotional event in her career it was at the absolute top, as Lara has often emphasized. And as shown in the video, Lara literally collapsed to the floor at the end of it. She subsequently noted “That night, they revived me from the inside".
**But Lara's schedule was not finished with touring. It was now on to elsewhere in the world: Tunisia, Montreal, and then to the 'orient', where added to the album was "Light of My Life", the duet with Lee Hom Wang, who at the time was the leading Chinese male singer. Stops were made in Japan, Taiwan and Singapore.
**Then back to Europe for her first performance in Germany. And back to the U.S. for a benefit in Madison Square Garden for the Elton John foundation and the American Cancer Society, an event with many luminaries broadcast on radio in New York.
**The album was selling phenomenally well around the world, having gone Gold in Canada, Germany and Switzerland, platinum in Belgium and France.
**Then on to South America in November; the album released on that continent contained the four additional Spanish tracks, in line with what artists were doing when appealing to a Spanish audience.
It is ironic that her period of personal agony was accompanied by so much professional success.
